"The San Juan Islands is the perfect place for you to visit on your next flight trip. Situated between the Haro and Rosario Straits between Vancouver Island and the United States Mainland, with Vancouver to the north and Seattle to the south, the San Juan Islands offer a unique mixture of flora & fauna - nature & culture. With its over 150 islands and reefs San Juan Islands is an ideal area to explore the breath-taking nature, the deep-rooted culture and the maritime cuisine - the surroundings offer plenty of adventures and experiences to fill week long stays. On clear days you can even see majestic Mt. Baker to the east. Fly into small tugged away airstrips or take your float plane to one of the thousand reefs or bays. Experience the full range of what nature has to offer. From a coastal environment comprising 480 miles of shoreline to mountain flying around peeks up to 2500 feet - San Juan Islands can offer it all!"

"Say farewell to worry and stress and say hello to the mellow islands vibe, a temperate year-round climate, and long, lazy hours of doing just what you want. So, relax—you’re on “island time” now!" - San Juan Islands Visitors Bureau

This scenery package is based on the San Juan Island package I've made for X-Plane 11.
It contains the following airports/airstrips:

-Allan Island Airstrip (Uncharted)
-Blakely Island Airport (38WA)
-Burden Field (Rabbit Run) (61WA)
-Center Island Airstrip (78WA)
-Clam Harbor Airport (WA35)
-Crane Island Airstrip (KCKR)
-Crow Valley Airport (WA39)
-Cypress Island Airstrip (Uncharted)
-Decatur Jones Airfield (WA18)
-Decatur Shores Airport (WN07)
-Deer Harbor Airport (Uncharted)
-Eliza Island Airstrip (WA93)
-Friday West Airport (1WA9)
-John's Island Airstrip (Uncharted)
-Miller's Field (Uncharted)
-San Juan Island Airstrip (Uncharted)
-San Juan Valley Airstrips (Uncharted)
-Shaw Island Airstrip (Uncharted)
-Sinclair Island Airstrip (Uncharted)
-Sinclair's Secret Airstrip (Uncharted)
-Spieden Island Airstrip (Uncharted)
-Stuart Island West (2WA3)
-Waldron Island Airstrip (90WA)
-Wilding Farm Airport (6WA5)
-Windsock Airstrip (Uncharted)

Not included, but available here on the site:

-Point Roberts (1RL) made by Deepfield https://flightsim.to/file/1723/point-roberts-airpark-1rl
-Stuart Island Airpark (7WA5) made by Deepfield https://flightsim.to/file/1667/stuart-island-airpark-7wa5
-Orca Island Airport (KORS) made by Aircake1 https://flightsim.to/file/1875/kors-orcas-island-airport
-Roche Habor (WA09) made by themoonline https://flightsim.to/file/4761/wa09-roche-harbor

Not included, but I may add them in a later expansion/update:

-Sea Plane Bases

Only one of these airports/airfields is paved, many are private & uncharted, some don't have a windsock or any lighting and their length goes down to well around 1000 feet with widths down to 40-50 feet. Robust, light and/or high performance aircraft recomended.

All of the included airports/airstrips have been made from scratch.
I've added and tweaked missing details, terraformed the runways & surroundings,
added the appropriate frequencies, added lakes, ponds & vegetation for the entire area etc.

Not all airport/airfield names & designators may be the official/original ones.
If you have information about their real names and designators, please let me know!

Due to the amount of airports in close proximity of each other, their small size and the lack of usable object libraries,
the extent of added details has been kept rather light.

Installation:
Drop the individual airport/airstrip folders in your community package folder and you should be good to go!

Required Libaries:
Dave's Crooked Library https://flightsim.to/file/4696/dave-s-crooked-library
Mikea's Assetpack https://flightsim.to/file/1923/mikea-at-assetpack

If you find any problems, missing stuff or have more general feedback,

Center Island Airstrip (78WA), Decatur Jones Airfield (WA18), Crane Island Airstrip (KCKR), Waldron Island Airstrip (90WA), Stuart Island West (2WA3), and Clam Harbor Airport (WA35) are full of trees

Since I haven't altered anything since the last update, it must be the update messing around with vegetation polygons once more. Give me some days to fix it.

Nice airfield pack. I love flying around these islands and these airfields add a lot to the experience. I did a quick 45 minute hop around some of the western islands and had a couple of issues.
I took off from Friday West Airport 1WA9 picking one of the parking spots but I seemed to have spawned in a field surrounded by fences and trees! I had to run over some fence posts to get to the strip! https://i.imgur.com/VLmFWLg.png
Looking at Little Nav Map there appears to be a small taxiway on the opposite side of the runway which is where I'm guessing these parking spots are meant to be. https://i.imgur.com/lIF9qPX.png
Also whilst flying past San Juan Valley Airstrips SJI8 I spotted an airliner with various bits of ground equipment strewn around. https://i.imgur.com/UKfyWkf.png
That'd definitely be a challenge to get that out of there! Looking at LNM again I think the issue is that the parking spots are set to Large Ramps when they should just be GA Small.

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. Looks like I have to fix some stuff anyways after the recent world update and I will check your observations and fix them. Give me some days and I will upload a new version.

Thank you for your kind words. I stopped counting the hours I've flown around the area. It's amazing how much time one can spend on the San Juan Islands.

      Hello,
you need only the main file. Somewhere small it also should say version 1.2 which is the most up to date version. The older version are just there for anybody who wants it.

Hi Thanks, the airports have installed and look great. I also note you advise adding the other scenery libraries which i have done, although I do not appear to see any other objects at the airports, could I be missing anything else?

      Thanks

You probably have done everything right. Until now, I have only added a few library objects to Miller's Field and Blakely Island Airport, since I started using libraries rather late. I may add some objects to the other airstrips as well later.

If the apostrophe is the issue then you should probably change the Johns Island Airstrip (sji10) as that has one as well.

I think this pack is now causing MSFS not to load (stuck on splash screen, progress bar gets to end but never loads to main screen, and using network in the background). I have not been able to identify which airport exactly. This was (at least) one that was causing the issue. I'm now going through others, but so far haven't found any.

UPDATE: Confirmed, this was the only scenery/add-on I had to disable (but haven't had time to figure if it's a specific airport) to get MSFS to load.

I spent about an hour to figure out that it's the "sinclair's-secret-airstrip-sji6" that is causing the issue. Hope this helps.

Oh, maybe something to do with the new sim update. Sounds like I have to do some trial and error, since I have no idea what may cause this. I will look through it when I get home again sometime after all the x-mas related things have settled a bit. Thanks for letting me know.

I spent my morning digging into why my sim wouldn't start with this package enabled, and it is definitely to do with SJI6. I've created an extensive bug report detailing my investigation at https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/startup-hang-caused-by-apostrophe-in-scenery-name/339695 (and also sent in a ZenDesk ticket), but in the meantime you can solve this problem by removing the apostrophe from the directory name of that one field. (The title in manifest.json doesn't seem to matter, just the directory name.)

Thanks for digging into it! Good find with apostrophe. I'd probably never thought about that. I will get back home sometime tomorrow and will update the package. Sorry for the inconveniences.

Thank you for making this wonderful scenery and incorporating the modellib.bgl fix!

I extra renamed the BGL files for version 1.1 to prevent possible CTD issues in relation to other sceneries. Are you sure you have the right version?

Thanks for making this update! When I went to download the update, the presentation was a little confusing -- the top file("Main File"😉 was actually the 1.0 version from November, even though the little icon on the left side said 1.1. The second file was the actual 1.1 file, as indicated in the filename, and it does indeed fix the modellib.bgl conflict issue.

Again, awesome addition to the San Juans, and your hard work and this update are appreciated!

I think I figured out the upload UI and removed the old file in order to minimize any confusion. Thanks for pointing it out.

Great work! Any way you can compile all these files into one package? Would be amazing.
    • Wookie042
      5 month(s) ago
I deliberately made the package so it contains all the airfields as individual packages. That's what most people think is the most convenient method. At this point I have no intention to merge the packages into one. If you made the request because of your custom folder is filling up, I highly recommend MSFS Addon Linker, which you can find also on this site.

As a Washington resident, I'm LOVING these airfields. However, I've been getting some CTDs while flying in the area now, and it looks like it might be the modellib.bgl issue, as I see all the airports have the default name here. FreakyD has been updating his PNW airports to address the modellib.bgl conflict, so hoping you can take a look at this too because these aiports are an awesome addition to the San Juans.

    Thanks much!
