1,265 lakes, ponds, other bodies of water and counting!
Alaska Lakes: Matanuska-Susitna Valley is a project I started to address the hundreds of lakes in Alaska's Matanuska-Susitna Valley that are missing water in the default scenery. All lakes have been hand-traced, and if needed, have also been flattened to make them more suitable for floatplane operations.
Released as an early access, it is my intention to add more lakes, ponds, & other bodies of water over time. This package does not include the bodies of water I have fixed in my other Alaska scenery releases, but fills in the gaps between them. So, if you want an even better Mat-Su valley to fly in, check out these other sceneries that I have released:
- Talkeetna Airport, Alaska (PATK)
- Davidson Strip, Alaska (45AA)
- Kantishna Airport, Alaska (5Z5)
- Snowflake Lake & Airstrip, Alaska
- Rangeview Airstrip, Alaska (0AA5)
- Montana Creek, Alaska (21AK)
- Stampede Airport, Alaska (Z90)
- Chunilna Cabin Strip, Alaska [Payware]
NOTAMs
- This package may conflict with Julysfire's Talkeetna, Alaska Area Airport/Scenery Pack, but has not been tested!
Hello all,
Alaska Lakes is currently not functioning correctly after the latest Sim Update. At this time, I highly recommend that you disable the addon until I can figure out a solution and update the addon, or worse case, until Asobo can provide a fix in a future update, if it is on their end instead (And we all know by now just how long those wait times can go for...).
If I find a solution, I'll keep you all posted. Until then, if you don't disable the addon you will likely experience the following:
- Loading into an airport within or near the coverage area may take up to 5 minutes or longer.
- Many terrain issues - mostly big a$$ holes in the ground will appear within the coverage area.

Hello,
Is it also compatible with ORBX NA Alaska Mesh?
Thank you

I don't own the ORBX mesh, nor do I have any immediate plans to get it, so I cant test it. However, I do know the data set and know that elevation wise, it is pretty much the same as default. ORBX just makes ridges and such a bit sharper. That said, there should not be any issues.

Do we now still need the Alaska Water Heights fix? It isn't certified as SU5 compatible yet.

I'm still using it, although I honestly haven't spent any time testing if it's still useful for certain areas or not after SU2 USA. Compatibility should be fine though. I believe only terraforming polys were used in that project, and nothing has changed there that would warrant a recompile.

Alaska Lakes: Matanuska-Susitna Valley has been updated to v0.3.0. This new update has finally focused on those lakes that are outside of the aerial coverage area. Adding 94 lakes, ponds, and other bodies of water to the East of Talkeetna (Bald Mountain area).
Unfortunately, with this good news comes a bit of bad. Several updates ago, Asobo changed how terraforming was handled for bodies of water. The method used at the time is no longer supported, so some terraforming that was done in the previous update is no more.
However, I did go ahead and fix a couple dozen of the larger lakes in this release. Mostly to the north of the valley. Hopefully by the next update, all terraforming will be redone. At least on the lakes more acceptable for landing..
