Santa Barbara Oil Rig placements - Image 1

    Description

Santa Barbara Rigs – Offshore Oil Platform Placement for Microsoft Flight Simulator ( default 3D model )

I'm freezing downloads, as a recent change to MSFS 2020 seems to have removed POI_oil-rig, which this scenery is dependant on. I'll check after SU16, which is supposed to merge world data for 2020 and 2024, and see if there will be a replacement oil rig asset.
    Thanks for understanding.

    Description
This scenery adds all 27 oil platform placements off the Santa Barbara coast, from San Pedro to Vandenberg AFB. This is an early version and will be a work in progress. The primary intent was to add rigs offshore for enhancing helicopter flying in multiplayer and to add something more to do in this scenic area of the world. Even if you’re flying an aircraft up the coast, it’s nice to see the rigs out in the water, especially if you’ve flown in the Southern California area in reality.

Although the placement and orientation of the rigs is accurate, the scenery is currently using the default oil rig which is not representative of the platforms in the channel. Eventually, the default rigs will be replaced with more accurate models of the channel rigs.

       Includes appx location map
       Includes basic documentation

    Installation

    • Extract bhd-sbarigs.zip using WinZip, 7-Zip or WinRar.
    • Place the entire bhd-sbarigs folder into the Microsoft Flight Simulator Community Folder.
    • Select Santa Barbara as your start point (KSBA), Platform Holly is right off the coast near the airport. Use the included map and navigation info to explore the area..
    • Requires USA World Update to be installed from the Marketplace ( oil rig is part of update scenery content )

    Known Issues v0.3.0

    • Oil rig 3D model is not accurate to actual Santa Barbara platforms.
    • Might experience -2/3 FPS spikes, but in general - not much performance impact.

    Update v0.2.2

    • Added KMZ file in documentation to add rig locations to Little Nav Map.
    • Added Landable Helipads on all Oil Rigs
    • Added Windsock to Helipad
    • Added simple omni light near helipad and windsock
    • Fixed modellib.bgl naming issue

    Update v0.2.3

Fixed minor issue where test light assets created gray boxes at an FBO on the airport.

    Update v0.3.0

Added Helipads ( start position ) to all Rigs
ICAO names are fake / placeholder
"Airport" names are "Platform ...." - ie Platform Holly
Helicopters will start w engines running, since the marker is handled like a runway for airplanes.
Cleaned up some sloppy helipad placement ( railings clipping through pad )

the last I checked, there's still no oil rig asset in the 2020 SDK, but it's been awhile since I looked ( I did file with DevSupport about missing assets, but haven't heard anything )

Hi Ravenn, do you have any update on the oil rigs in Santa Barbara for MSFS 2020? They are still no showing, except for the green landing platform. They were a great addition to the scenery. Are they showing in MSFS 2024 (which I don’t have yet)?
    Thank you.

AFAIK - the default rigs eliminate the need in 2024... they don't have every placement, but it's good enough from what I've seen - much better oil rig models, for sure.

I haven't checked 2020 in a couple months, but AFAIK there's no default replacement for the rig model.

Hi, can it be that the World Update II USA receives an update (POI now version 2.1.2)? Oil rigs are no longer displayed.

I haven't checked 2020 in awhile, I'll take a look in the morning - as the oil rig from WU2 is a dependency for all the sceneries

Yeah, the POI_oil-rig asset isn't found in the SDK. That totally breaks all the sceneries. They said they are syncing the 2020 / 2024 world data in SU16, so maybe there will be something there. I'll have to disable the scenery for now :/

In MSFS 2024, the Oil Rigs do not work, I can see the heli pads floating in some of them. I hope you can fix this as this scenery for MSFS 2024 as it is AWESOME in MSFS 2020.

2024 should have placements for all the oil rigs - with a better model that actually has collision on it ;) I hadn't planned to update any of these for 2024. ( the oil rig asset was in the US World Update for 2020, and I'm sure they removed it in 2024 as it was pretty low-fi )

I just checked - it's working fine here... you definitely installed the first USA world update, per the instructions? as that's required for the oil rigs to show up ;)

I have ORBX, KSBA Santa Barbara Scenery installed. The older version of SB Oil Rigs would change the look of the "Atlantic" building found south of the terminal at Ramp 5. The building would look like some default, generic hanger. The latest release of SB Oil Rigs fixes this issue. Thank you!

weird - I don't think I added any scenery at KSBA... I've got the Orbx version , and used to fly into that FBO IRL when it was ( Million Air ? )

In the P3D/FSX version I'd added the helipads on the north side of the field, near Signature - but not here. I try to get the dev at Orbx to update their scenery with the helipads... but no luck ;)

Sorry, this is not a comment, but I need help and I don't know how to get it.
I only see the octagons where the helicopter lands (which are landable) floating over the sea like a flying saucer. I also see the ships next to the oil platforms.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
    Thanks in advance.

yup - you need to install the free US World Update 1 from the marketplace ( oil rig assets are from there )

Goes great with my KLGB & KSNA. Really fills out the offshore area during departures and arrivals. Thanks!
