Santa Barbara Rigs – Offshore Oil Platform Placement for Microsoft Flight Simulator ( default 3D model )

Description
This scenery adds all 27 oil platform placements off the Santa Barbara coast, from San Pedro to Vandenberg AFB. This is an early version and will be a work in progress. The primary intent was to add rigs offshore for enhancing helicopter flying in multiplayer and to add something more to do in this scenic area of the world. Even if you’re flying an aircraft up the coast, it’s nice to see the rigs out in the water, especially if you’ve flown in the Southern California area in reality.

Although the placement and orientation of the rigs is accurate, the scenery is currently using the default oil rig which is not representative of the platforms in the channel. Eventually, the default rigs will be replaced with more accurate models of the channel rigs.

   Includes appx location map
   Includes basic documentation

Installation

  • Extract bhd-sbarigs.zip using WinZip, 7-Zip or WinRar.
  • Place the entire bhd-sbarigs folder into the Microsoft Flight Simulator Community Folder.
  • Select Santa Barbara as your start point (KSBA), Platform Holly is right off the coast near the airport. Use the included map and navigation info to explore the area..
  • Requires USA World Update to be installed from the Marketplace ( oil rig is part of update scenery content )

Known Issues v0.2.2

  • Oil rig 3D model is not accurate to actual Santa Barbara platforms.
  • Might experience -2/3 FPS spikes, but in general - not much performance impact.

Update v0.2.2

  • Added Landable Helipads on all Oil Rigs
  • Added Windsock to Helipad
  • Added simple omni light near helipad and windsock
  • Fixed modellib.bgl naming issue.

Also available: Alaska - Cook Inlet Oil Rigs

Recommended Payware - KSBA Santa Barbara, ORBX

      didn't see this - sorry!

      are you still having issues?
btw - do you mean POI markers or actual oil rigs, because I only added 1 POI marker per group of rigs - so it wouldn't get massively cluttered...

as far as the rigs - they don't draw nearly as far as I would expect them to, but they should all be showing up within 10nm or closer. if it were my oil rig asset, I'd cheat the LOD and have you able to see them 150% farther out... but they're default.

I need help on this one, everything is loaded properly in the community folder but all the rigs appear below water level, it shows the location in some of them and the the helicopter landing pad shows just above water level and in previous version i had the same results, any help on this situation?. Thanks.

I haven't seen anything like that... the rigs are set to snap to ground ( water level ) and the helipad insert is manually aligned with the rig helipad.

Do you have any other mods that could affect DEM or water levels?

Thank you for the reply and no other MODS are affected, don't know what to do.

I'm checking it, but don't see anything that would cause an issue. Do you have the Alaska oil rigs as well? Is that causing the same issue?

yes, I have the same problem, only the helipads are visible and no rigs at all, for you info I'm running a desktop pc intel core (i7 10700K cpu)) Windows 10 Pro, Nvidia G force RTX 2070 Super with 2 monitors for the wide screen view.

stupid question - you do have the USA World Update installed? ( specifically from the marketplace, which adds the scenery content ) their oil rig model is part of that package

" BINGO " thank you so much for your help, I did not have the USA update installed and the problem got solved, thank you for your effort and the great work you have done.

this is using Asobo's asset right now... about the only solution is to 'hide' a solid block just under the helipad with the same dimensions and orientation - and you'd have to do one for every rig... I'll take a look though

( Assuming you reloaded the sim after installing )
Everything extracted correctly? ie. You can see the bgl in the folder?
      \Community\bhd-sbarigs\scenery\rigs_test.bgl

The scenery should be automatically enabled in MSFS, but you can check:
Profile>Content Manager - search for SBA and you should see it

If everything looks correct above, then start at KSBA - Platform Holly is about 4nm on a 235 heading ( should be visible to the South West as soon as you're in the air )

If it's still not showing up - check Graphics > Buildings settings?

    Nice mod.
Could you add more, on different locations ?
    Thanks

The original 'FSX plan' was to do Santa Barbara area ( since it's more visible - close to shore and high traffic than other oil rig placements ) then do custom 3D models and populate Alaska, Gulf of Mexico, North Sea, etc.

Day job didn't allow me to do it and there was no budget at the time to pay someone else to do 20-30 models + LODs.
