Do you like flying VFR and watching the World below you? Do you sometimes feel that something is missing? We Love VFR is here to help you. We Love VFR is a free add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator that adds thousands of new VFR-friendly objects. In this beta version, you get communication, radio, and tv antennas, radar domes, construction cranes and satellite/radio telescope dishes. I have plans for many, many more.

How to install?

Find your „Community” directory and just copy "a-puf-we-love-vfr-region1 there". That’s it. If you’re updating our addon I recommend removing the old version before installing the new one.

Warning: To get satellite dishes/radio telescopes you need "USA Points of Interest" installed. It's available in the marketplace for free.

Remember it's a beta

Don't be mad if you see any errors, just report them to me so I can fix them ;) If you see an object that you know but its appearance is wrong please visit my website, puffinflight.com, for the manual on how to add/edit objects in OSM to make them appear in the next version of my mod.

Known Issues:

  • at some airports (like Dublin for example) masts may appear in unusual places. This will be fixed in next version.

FAQ

Why antennas look fuzzy from the distance?

That’s something in the sim graphics engine, that for now can’t be bypassed. Original sim objects act exactly the same. I try to prevent it a bit with LODs, but it won’t be perfect. Maybe the DX12 will fix it someday.

Why can’t I see obstacle lights from the distance? / Why there is a visible light but not on top of the antenna?

For now, MSFS SDK for lights is very limited. I can’t create a light that will have a source visible from a distance. On the other hand, I can’t remove those red, clearly visible lights that Asobo has put in place of antennas. As soon as they expand SDK, I’ll fix that.

Hey, that mast next to my house is not in your mod. Why?

I use OpenStreetMap data and they are not perfect. Sometimes they lack proper tags and I can’t tell if it is an antenna or a flag pole. Sometimes there is no object where there should be one. When the first final version is released, I will show how everyone can add their own data and it should be available for the next update.

*Not really AI. Just quite complex conditions, but AI sounds a lot better.

    Fixes and tweaks all around. I don't remember the details.

    I've checked it and you're right. Unfortunately, UUEE is not detected as an airport by my script, so the 2km exclusion area around airports doesn't work here. In OSM there is a construction site marked on the central runway. I'll rewrite airport detection for the next version to prevent cases like this one. Thank you for your report.

    Absolutely! Let me release another version for Europe and then I'll shift my focus to the Americas. It will be tricky as OSM coverage is worse than in Europe, but I'll try to add some other data sources.

    It would be hard to list all 150000 objects that this mod adds :) This is more like an extended autogen, not a mod with specific POIs. I try my best to make it as accurate as I can with the data I have and sometimes it's pretty spot-on, somtimes it's way off.
    Basically, if tv/radio/gsm mast is placed in OpenStreetMap it should be visible in my mod (with some exceptions). Plus now we have radar domes and radio telescopes/satellite dishes.

    Hi,

    Does this package include any water based assets like boats, ships, yachts, sailboats, stuff like that? If so, can these be used in the Scenery Editor in my own projects somehow?

    Thank you for a great addon. This really enhances immersion. One thing I noticed: I feel the cranes seem to be too large in size. For example, in EDDS there is one standing very close to RWY25 which high enough be well inside the glideslope.

    That construction site should be excluded as it is near the airport. Unfortunately, EDDS is not treated like an airport because of a bug in code. I'll fix it for the next version. Thank you for the bug report.

    Thanks for that great addon! It's a great Idea. I just edited 3 Antennas in LSZH Region (added the hights in Open streetmap, according to official swiss obstacle chatrs) and added one missing. Hope they make it into the next update. That scenery enhancement is great by the way!

    Is it possible to add your masts to own scenery? If for example you model an airport with an antenna nearby, can you add the antenna from your library? Would that be possible and allowed? (If you quote the orignal creator of course).

    Thank you for editing OSM. Hopefully, all will be ok and they will update with the next update as they should. If not, you can always notify me.

    It is possible to add my masts to another scenery but that would still require We Love VFR to be installed to see them.

    but one small surprise when i was flying to Aéroport de Caen Carpiquet (LFRK). on approach to RWY 31 the was a crane right in the glide slope :-). so the choice is under of over.

    Thanks for that report. This one should be removed automatically as I ignore all construction sites in a 2km radius from airports. In this case, the problem is with detecting the airport and it will be fixed in the next version. When? I have no clue as adding the next object type is very time-consuming.

    Great work but crashed into pylons coming into rw 22 Geneve LSGG, Right across the end of the runway. May be i missed an update . Thanks .

    Sorry for the late reply.
    I would love to add churches but it's a lot more complicated. Without autogen SDK it's a bit pointless as it would all be generic models not in the shape of a real-life counterpart.
    Maybe someday we'll get proper SDK and be able to do that. For now, it's on the backlog.

    By the way, I have noticed an issue, this mod replaces some towers, for example Dusseldorf tower with an antenna, perhaps this something can be fixed easily? Thanks

    For now, the only tower model I have is limited to 200m. This one is a bit higher, and that's why it is replaced by an antenna. I'll try to add another, higher model, but I can't promise it will be included in the next version.

    Sorry, you are right, they are in there.
    Though they feel smaller than in real life and don't have connected powerlines. That's why I didn't notice them at first I guess.
