Glacier Point Airstrip, 4AA5, Alaska, USA - Image 1

    Description

    Welcome to Glacier Point!

Glacier Point is located approx. 22nm south of Skagway and 56nm north of Juneau.
The closest settlement/town is Haines, which is located 8nm to the north across the Chilkat Inlet.
Despite its remoteness, it's one of the most popular sightseeing sites in the Haines/Skagway area,
due its easy access to the Davidson Glacier which terminates only 2nm to the west.

    (This is a real place: 59.088761, -135.379977)

People joining the glacier tour will usually be ferried by small boats/ships from Haines or Skagway to Glacier Point,
where they will be dropped off on the beach. At the Davidson Glacier Guide Center,
PFDs and waders are supplied for the 2nm trip to the glacier terminus,
which consists of hiking through the nearby forest and taking the supplied canoes
up the glacier river and lake to reach glacier icesheet.

3/4nm to the south from Glacier Point, you'll find a 1.900 feet long privately owned gravel/grass runway,
which serves both the Guide Center and some private cabins further to the south. Follow the dirt road
from the northern turnaround area to get to Glacier Point or follow the shore line. The airstrip in itself
is way less of a challenge than other airstrips in the area. However, it's beautiful location right on the shore of
the Chilkat Inlet and it's short distance from Davidson Glacier makes it definitely worth a visit.

    Glacier Point Airstrip

    Altitude 10 feet
    Runway 1900 feet gravel/grass
    Windsock available

    Compatible with OrbX Alaska Mesh

(Please report back any incompatibilites with any season and/or vegetation mods)

You'll need the Bush & Backcountry Library for this scenery:
    https://flightsim.to/file/43061/bush-backcountry-library

This scenery was completely made from scratch. It wasn't included into MSFS and even the bing satellite imagery didn't depict it due to heavy cloud removal in the area.
Added airstrip and glacier guide center as well as some terraforming, vegetation and water works in the general area.

Airport is great. Have flown in and out many times, unfortunately recently I keep getting CTD when i load the airport.
    Is anyone else experiencing this?

    Hey wookies,
I have issues with this "airport", with some tiles of ground textures, seem some of them incorrectly loading and result in a no trees generations ; that's break all your scene.
I can't figure if it's me or a MSFS recent update.
I have MSFS2020 map enhancement, and tried with Bing and Maps servers, result is, surprisingly, the same "blanks" (=very low resolution tile, and no trees).
    Did you see that ?

    Many thanks for this.

I was wondering how you come up with the ICAO codes for your airstrips please?

    Thanks for the review!

I chose ICAO codes based on availability and what somewhat fits the local code convention.

Nugget Creek Cabin, 4AA3, Alaska, USA

The privately owned cabin is located right at the bank of the Tsirku River roughly 30 miles west of Haines deep in the mountains. It's the last landing site before the Tsirku Glacier head further up the valley. If you want to get away from the crowds, enjoying untouched wilderness for miles and are into hunting and fishing this is the right spot for you - provided that you can handle its airstrip which is only roughly 545 feet long and not much wider than the wingspan of a Kitfox or Piper Cub.

Takhin River Airstrip, 4AA4, Alaska, USA

This airstrip is an old half abandoned and partially overgrown airstrip on the right bank of the Takhin River in the Takhinsha Mountains. Half way between Haines and the Tsirku Glacier, it presumably once served as entry and drop off point for hunters, researchers and others who needed to access the wilderness. It has seen some recent interest and activity by some local bush pilots and hunters and has been cleared of the worst, however, this is a non-maintained and rarely used airstrip, so be cautious.
