Takhin River Airstrip, 4AA4, Alaska, USA - Image 1

    Description

    Welcome to Takhin River Airstrip!

This airstrip is an old half abandoned and partially overgrown airstrip on the right bank of the Takhin River in the Takhinsha Mountains.
Half way between Haines and the Tsirku Glacier, it presumably once served as entry and drop off point for hunters, researchers and others who needed to access the wilderness.
It has seen some recent interest and activity by some local bush pilots and hunters and has been cleared of the worst, however, this is a non-maintained and rarely used airstrip, so be cautious.
    This is a real place: 59.254334, -135.998106

    NOTAMS:
Runway extremely narrow. Possible debris on runway. Obstacles close to runway hidden in high grass. No windsock available. Recommended landing to the SE

    Takhin River Airstrip
    Altitude: 450 feet
    Runway: 700 feet NW/SE
    Surface: Soil/Grass/Gravel
    No windsock
    No service
    No maintenance

This airstrip is much more of a challenge than it looks at first.
Only 700 feet of extremely narrow runway, which for the most past merely consists of tracks by other aircraft, to get you down and out.
In the tall grass and shrubs directly adjacent to the runway you'll find logs and other debris.
Depending on your aircraft, the obstacle, your speed and direction you will crash your aircraft hitting them
Keep in the tracks at all costs.
Let me know if the challenge is right or needs adjustment.

You need the Bush & Backcountry Libary for this scenery to work: https://flightsim.to/file/43061/bush-backcountry-library

    Compatible with Orbx Alaska Mesh
    Not-compatible with Bijan's Season Mod

In MSFS 2024 the only spawn point registers as a helipad so I am not able to load in here in a plane

I'm getting trees and vegetation that aren't in your pictures on several of your airstrips. I enjoy a difficult takeoff and landing, but these trees make it impossible. I'm not talking about the obstacles on or near the runway that you intentionally put there (I like those). I'm talking about the AI generated trees with collision mesh. Since they aren't in your pictures, I assume you don't want them there.

Have you any tree, vegetation or season mods installed? That's the most likely culprit of diverging vegetation placement/vegetation overrides in my experience.

I'm terribly sorry. I forgot I had the forest enhancement mod by badnick578 installed. That was the culprit. Do you want me to delete my comment?

No need to be sorry. All good :) Happens to me as well from time to time. No need to delete it. May come useful for other people running into the same problem ;)

Great scenery, but don't you think some of logs laying around are too close to runway? Here and on 4AA3 as well

    Thanks for the review!

Regarding the logs: In the end it's a matter of taste. I'm in the camp that prefers consequences if you do things wrong e.g. hitting a log at an unmaintained landing site, so I put this challenge in. Nonetheless, I will write it down and check it when it's time to revise the sceneries.

Update on the issue some people experience:

It seems that for SU10 there may be an addon/mod that messes with the tree/vegetation placement, however, that specific addon/mod has not been identified yet.

It also seems that SU11 Beta may pose a problem with tree/vegetation placement for another user. I will have a look at the scenery once SU11 drops in two days.

So give it a go, most people seem to not have any problems at all :)

I am seeing the same issue. Not an open area as in your screenshots. Lots of trees with no mods that alter anything except the ORBX Alaska mesh and your bush and backcountry library.

Do you by any chance run SU11 beta? I've got some screenshots from 55tom55 and there are much more trees and vegetation than on my copy of the sim. That's gonna be interesting to try to fix something I don't see.

No beta. Lots of pine trees in foreground and background on mountain slopes. Your trees looks totally different.

Honestly, I've no clue what's going on. I emptied my community folder except of Takhin Airstrip and the Bush and Backcountry Library (something I do anyway when creating sceneries) and I don't have those trees/vegetation.

Have you cached the area with the rolling cache by any chance?

I will try with a default community folder, only adding your scenery. That will tell if there is something in the mix that I am not seeing. Ok, so goning to the defaut commnity folder fixed the issue. So i have something in my add ons that's changing the trees.

I'm glad that there is progress on the issue and that I didn't F something up.

If you ever find out what other addon/mod causes this issue, I would appreciate if you would let me know. If that's something a lot of people have installed, I will include it as incompatible in the description.

Bijan Seasons is the source of the issue. I forgot I had it installed. It replaces tree types world wide. Your bush country textures remain, but the open area is filled with trees.

Perfect. Thanks for letting me know and the patience. I will update the file description accordingly.

Nugget Creek Cabin, 4AA3, Alaska, USA

The privately owned cabin is located right at the bank of the Tsirku River roughly 30 miles west of Haines deep in the mountains. It's the last landing site before the Tsirku Glacier head further up the valley. If you want to get away from the crowds, enjoying untouched wilderness for miles and are into hunting and fishing this is the right spot for you - provided that you can handle its airstrip which is only roughly 545 feet long and not much wider than the wingspan of a Kitfox or Piper Cub.

Despite its remoteness, it's one of the most popular sightseeing sites in the Haines/Skagway area,  due its easy access to the Davidson Glacier which terminates only 2nm to the west.
