Welcome to Queenstown in Tasmania's wild west coast

Located in Tasmania’s rugged west, Queenstown Airport (YQNS) sits approximately 2km west of the township on Howard Plains, overlooking the dramatic landscapes of Mt Lyell and Mt Owen. Originally constructed in the 1930s, the airstrip supported regular passenger services through to at least 1993. Today, while largely disused, the airstrip is still maintained by the local council and sees occasional use by recreational aviation with prior permission. It has also seen use as a filming location in local productions and as a site for radio-controlled aircraft flying.

Queenstown Airport (YQNS) features a 1200m asphalt runway with extended thresholds at either end, along with a small apron and parking area. This addon includes a fully rebuilt and redesigned airstrip for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, featuring updated and colour-corrected 10cm aerial imagery, accurate runway and parking layouts, and improved elevation profiling. Custom models have been created for key elements including the shelter, signage, navigation markers, and perimeter fencing, removing reliance on third-party assets and improving overall visual consistency and accuracy. The surrounding environment has been enhanced with refined vegetation placement, terraforming, and ground texturing to better reflect the area. Additional detailing has been added throughout the airfield and surrounding precinct, including clutter around the apron, road signage, and improved material work across runway, taxiway, and apron surfaces. Custom runway markings and updated alignment further enhance accuracy.

An optional Moores Valley Airstrip (YQUN) fix is also available as a separate download. In the default MSFS 2024 scenery, this airstrip is incorrectly labelled as YQUN Queenstown and depicted inaccurately, so this small update corrects the elevation, layout, and overall appearance to better match the real location.
