Toledo is the capital of the province of Toledo and at the same time of the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha. In 1986 its historic center was considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is located 71 km south-southwest of Madrid at 569 meters above sea level and surrounded by the Tajo River.
