KFAR-Hector International Airport - Fargo North Dakota - Image 1

    Description

    HECTOR INTERNATIONAL

This airport is undergoing a large update, the planning for which started around 2015.  A Multi-story car park was completed on time in August 2025, though it currently lacks the bridge which will connect it to the old Terminal.  The existing terminal is being extended, and this Scenery reflects the current state of construction. (Oct 2025)  A Live Web cam has allowed me to keep pace with the state of the build, but I had to freeze the modelling at some point.  Completion of the terminal is due in 2027, though it will open early next year.

Originally opened in 1927 after the land being donated by Martin Hector, this airport has grown to 2,500 Acres, and serves as a Passenger, Cargo, FBO and Fargo Air National Guard Base.  There is a Museum in the South East Quadrant, though there is currently a lack of Static Aircraft.

The first terminal was repurposed once the current Terminal was built in 1986.  It lost its Tower, but otherwise is easy to imagine as an early Passenger Terminal.  The 1986 Terminal was extended in 2004-2006.  This model is based on 2022 aerial photos, so the new car park has not yet been added.

    INSTALLATION

The installation file contains two folders.  All should be moved to the Community Folder of whichever sim you are using.
    They are:

    kfar-hector-intl

    mgcscenery-modellib-tsassets

You may have already downloaded mnsd-modellib-airport-models from flightsim.to, but as I am the author, this version should take priority.  (They should be the same, but just to be sure)  You will find Taxiway Signs have a reverse side.  The Runway Safety signs - Hold Shorts - have a reverse side added which indicates the solid/dashed symbol that is on the ground.  The tsassets library contains planes that are put in front of the solid yellow.  All this is generated by an application I have written.  It is not yet 100% reliable, and you may see the odd sign that is yellow on both sides.  Hopefully I will get the spacing right so that it works across the globe.

    CREDITS

Many of the textures I use come from Textures.com so many thanks to them.  They are only 1K, since this is a free enterprise, and they charge for anything bigger.
I may have used tsr-windy-things, in which case you may need this library .. also from flightsim.to.  It's worth downloading anyway.

    MSFS 2024

Seems to be Okay on SU-3, but please feel free to contradict me on that.

    Hey Connomar

This coming Monday (2/9) is the Grand Opening of the new expansion terminal. The Construction Camera will show the final product. Just thought you might want to know for a future update.

Thanks for that information. Hopefully we will get some news footage of the Jetway side, since I have no clue what that looks like in detail.

Here is a link to an artist rendition that is almost spot on to the real thing.

Nice little airport update. The scenery is great compared to the native MFS2020 scenery, and probably better than the payware which is not worth it's price. Nice to see the airport construction recreated in the new update. A great thing to see next would be some improved ground markings, and maybe some spots off to the side of the apron where they tend to store planes, due to the lack of gates at the terminal.

Thanks. I am currently working on a 2024 version, which will have more lighting effects - when Asobo fixes the bug that deletes street lighting in the scenery editor but not the actual sim- . Converting to a pure 2024 version involves working on 61 models, and that is before changing the apron markings. I had not looked at KFAR for a few years, in which time they have added to the Fargo Jet Center - not in my current version - and it looks as if new hangars are being constructed near the old Terminal.

So, it's great to get some feedback, and I will add any parking spots I find at the next release. I think they are working on the terminal extension faster than I can keep up. Having a web cam on the building site is fantastic, and daunting.

Just a follow up on rsmith6621a's comment. I have started work on the KFAR construction. I need to build a Multi-Storey Car Park and the terminal under construction. Those nice people in North Dakota have put up a web came covering the construction area. Minnesota needs to learn from this .. please.

Are you planning on updating KFAR to MSFS 2024? Also are you aware that FAR is undergoing a major update in real life?

    Nice scenery

    Hi,
I wasn't aware of the changes at KFAR, and Google Earth 3D imagery is quite old. I will see if I can get any info on what is happening. I can see where some work is going on, but not what. Conversion to 2024 is a tedious business, since they changed the lighting, and my method for creating lights has resulted in globes appearing in the space in front of the fitting. Therefore, every light has to be modified.

When I get an idea of the changes I need to make, I will probably do the 2020 version first, then convert it to 2024.

    Thanks for your interest.

Interestingly, searching for "KFAR" at flightsim.to didn't return any result. I almost missed this being available! Thanks for your great work ~

Thanks for your kind comments. When I get tired of Minneapolis St Paul, I will probably review all my current offerings as I learn new ways of doing things.

After viewing pictures and Google maps, this is a great rendition of KFAR. On the cargo side, the FEDEX and UPS buildings are modeled nicely. The only thing I noticed was the FEDEX logo, where the D/E were overlapping each other. The terminal was also modeled and reflect the real life terminal. Great work! Five stars!

Awesome job! So glad to see the correct taxiway signs, UPS ramp extension and the south GA looks great. Thanks so much for doing this, the payware was just okay and didn't do it justice.

Thanks for taking the time to create Hector Field! This brings back a lot of fond memories. My late father flew part-time for "The Happy Hooligans" from 1969 thru 1981 (F-102s and F-101s). When dad was laid off from TWA in 1971, we moved to West Fargo and dad flew full time for NODAK for a little over a year. I have a lot of great memories from my time in West Fargo. I was so happy to see that you added the red and white "The Happy Hooligans" logo to their hangar! Thanks again for taking the time to create KFAR and share it with us.
