San Diego Borrego Valley (L08) - Image 2

    Description

Borrego Valley Airport (ICAO: L08) is a county-owned public airport three miles east of Borrego Springs, in San Diego County, California, United States. Its one runway (8/26) is 5,011 x 75 ft (1,527 x 23 m) asphalt, CTAF/Unicom and host onsite restaurant "The Propeller Bar & Grill".

    Author's note
As for all of my MSFS mod, this small scenery is made from a pilot-eyes perspective. In real, I'm a Plus One Flyers member and mostly fly from Montgomery Field (KMYF). I'm real PPL, but a rookie amateur scenery developer: this mod is made with 99% of MSFS default objects library and feature massive number of details. The scenery is inspired by aerial views from Bing and Google maps. It's a mix between the satellite imagery displayed from MSFS and more accurate data found on Internet. Unfortunately, there's no taxiway information nor in Jeppesen, FAA or Foreflight data. I did my best based on online video and online pictures. Hundreds of objects have been added to the default scenery to make in more live and bring a touch of an active area.

Why Borrego? The place-to-be for aerobatics
The International Aerobatic Club (IAC) has a practice and competition area just north of the airport (see white ground markings). Aerobatic pilots from California and the southwest US regularly use it for practice and major competitive events; Two annual competitions are sponsored by the San Diego Aerobatic Club, in April and October. Jump into your CAP 10 or Pitts!

    Features

    • All taxiway markings verified and redesigned if needed. Mostly position correction and add of "Extended center line" at holding point.
    • Fix the solar farm north of the field with handplaced solar panels
    • Fix the color of re-asphalted taxiways and runway
    • Fix and replace default windsocks with animated orange windsocks
    • Fix circuit pattern correct position
    • Reveal the BORREGO letters marking on ground
    • Reveal and improve the solar farm north of the field
    • Add generic buildings to replace autogen MSFS: hangars, admin building, The Propeler restaurant and its upper deck...
    • Add AWOS frequency 126.575
    • Add Unicom 122.8
    • Add PAPI's at correct position
    • No extra library or depedencies required.

    How to install?

The ZIP now includes two folders: vbcorp-airport-L08-Borrego and zzz-vbcorp-airport-L08-Borrego
    - For MSFS2024 simmers, make sure both are active in your Community folder. Keep the name zzz-vbcorp-airport-L08-Borrego as is.
    - For MSFS2020 users: You can safely ignore the "zzz-vbcorp-airport-L08-Borrego" folder.

Once installed go to L08 as usual, the scenery is overlayed over the existing default one.

If you love the San Diego area, you should also consider my other sceneries:

    Requirements (if you use MSFS2020)

    • Sedona scenery (free from the stocked MSFS)
    • World Update II (USA) + World Update X (USA)

Whoa, does this bring back memories of flying in for golf and oh those windy days where the golf ball would never stop on the putting surface. Thank you so much for your talent.

Thank you again for your wonderful work!
By the way, I don't know if it is my fault (some other add-on in Community folder, perhaps), but nearly the majority of the aircraft parked at the airport are floating one or two meters above the land.
    Greetings

Thanks for your feedback. The floating static aircraft generated by - I suppose - MSFS2024 are a known bug (one more), vote here : https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/static-aircraft-incorrectly-positioned-and-floating/684817

Here at Borrego, but also in some of others of my sceneries. Actually, it started in Oceano ;)

Hope it's not on the southside as that place gets blazing hot for four months and probably would break down a lot. That would murder me

Thank you for the great work and bringing back memories of time there many years ago!

The next best thing to having you make a new airport is to fly one that you have tweeked, making it more realistic.

Your scenery is outstanding! I never miss a update. Just for the heck of it, I looked on YouTube and found a video of the real airport. Now I don't know if the airport might have been improved since the making of this video, but this video is a stark contrast to your great scenery!! Pete

Thank you for your comment. The linked video was one of the source I used. I went only once, in real at Borrego, and got personally very low quality material. There're a lot of details I would love to add in my scenery, but it goes was too much off my skill or my spare time ;)

Hey, I like all your airports and have all of your SoCal ones installed - they are really a improvement!

One thing however I'd like to criticize: It's the static aircraft ;) I know you placed them to make the scenery feel more alive but I personally especially dislike the generic ones from Asobo (like the business jet). It would be neat if you could at least get rid of these ones - the TBMs, King Airs, C172s and other "user" aircraft are pretty fine :)

Another approach could be to place static aircraft using an additional .bgl file so one could remove them all in one go by removing this .bgl at least ;) As I use AIG and other traffic related solutions I most of the time have some aircraft parked on airports.
