Water fix - New York City, New York, USA - Image 1

    Description

This mod applies exclusion polygons to areas covered in water in order to uncover them.  It also removes erroneously placed trees around water areas.  No scenery objects were added.

This mod fixes the following issues to the default scenery located in New York City, New York, USA. This covers as far north as the Bronx, and as far south as Staten Island.  It covers areas around Kennedy (KJFK) and LaGuardia (KLGA) airports.  I do not use other freeware or payware in the area, so I don't know if this conflicts with other third party mods.

Starting with Version 1.1 – this is now a modular installation, in order to accommodate those who might have some other 3rd-party scenery bridges.

    To install:

    • If you do not have any alternate shareware/freeware bridge scenery, install both "nycnywaterfix" and “nycnywaterfixoptionalbridges” into your Community folder.
    • If you have other shareware/freeware bridge scenery (or you just don’t want water fixes at the bridges), place a copy of only "nycnywaterfix" into your Community Folder (do not install “nycnywaterfixoptionalbridges”).

    V1.3.1 Release Notes:

    • Bug fixes
    • Uncovered some water around Newark.

    V1.3 Release Notes:

    • World Update XIII compatible, as functionality of Water Fixes was broken in SU12
    • More cleanup of trees

    V1.2 Release Notes:

    • Uncovers areas under Port Jersey
    • Cleaned up some vegetation at Central Park, downtown NYC, National Tennis Center, and others.
    • Brought the lines in to make water exclusions not so aggressive

V1.1b Hotfix Release Notes:  Do you want/need it?

         Yes if:

    • you installed V1.1 and you have 3rd party bridge scenery, this fixes the issue with the Rikers Island bridge water exclusion showing up
    • you only have V1.0

         No if:

    • you have V1.1 and you don’t have 3rd party bridge scenery

    V1.1 Release Notes:

    • Now a modular installation for those who may have scenery packs of NY and/or NJ bridges.  Please see install notes.  I've removed water exclusions from under the bridges in the stock file, and put those fixes in a separate optional file.  Thanks Oozler for the testing!
    • Uncovered additional areas in Staten Island, including Shooters Island, stuff around the Recycling plant, Staten Island Boat Graveyard
    • Uncovered sunken areas around Kennedy Airport
    • Fixed some inland roads throughout that were covered in water, and additional piers throughout
    • Refined some lines, did additional cleanup of trees, etc.

V1.0 Release notes, fixes the following areas:

    • Corrects issue of various roads and bridges appearing underwater throughout.  Corrections were done on stock bridges (not mods/freeware/payware).  I do not have other bridges installed for comparison.
    • Uncovered various docks, ships, piers, and walkways along the Lower Bay, Upper Bay, Hudson River (New York and New Jersey sides), as well as the East River.  I also uncovered things I probably shouldn't have uncovered around Staten Island :).
    • Restores visibility of marinas at City Island, Evers, Locust Point, Liberty Harbor, Grand Cove, Tottenville, Great Kills Harbor
    • Uncovered underwater islands at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge
    • Removed trees from ships and cargo along water areas
    • Basically everywhere you see RED in the screenshot, I uncovered water or removed vegetation

It seems like more of the base textures are exposed now than before, large patches of texture and water that don't smoothly transition (in 2020). 5 stars for when it was working though.

Is this compatible with the world photogrammetry fix by project coasline?

Are these water fix files of yours still needed as of 2 October 2023,or has Asobo fixed the coastlines already?

Asobo has certainly not fixed the coastlines.

Thanks for the update. Much appreciated!

Thank you for the mod but there appear to be seams in the water around Manhattan island. Is this caused by the water fix or a MSFS 2020 issue?

I've seen those seam lines come up randomly even without water fixes in place. I've removed some larger Ocean exclusions around the island, can you check out V1.3.1?

Maybe a stupid question, but why do the water mask need to take into consideration whether or not I have bridge sceneries installed?

Not a stupid question at all.

It's because if you have 3rd party bridges installed, this water fix uncovers the default-scenery bridge, and you end up with two overlapping bridges.

When are they going to make, heliports, that you can land on, atop, Manhattan skyscrapers, like in old FSX?

Thanks for fixing this..it really needed it. However, in testing today, I found lots of "fault" lines including a water step near the Statue of Liberty - is this an issue on my end (I have a screen shot but can't post here)?

I saw your screenshots that you sent.

Unfortunately, those fault lines have been an issue for a while in the sim now everywhere. See here: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/persistent-cracks-in-ground-tiles-not-water-since-su5/439671/7

It really makes it tough to take good photos/screenshots because those darned cracks are everywhere.

Thanks for helping me fix the issue - driver roll back was needed!

This add-on is a work-in-progress project for MSFS 2024 focusing on correcting water elevation issues encountered globally. The developer addresses problems as they are discovered during flights rather than systematically reviewing every location. Users can expect ongoing updates to enhance water accuracy throughout the simulators lifespan.
