Water fix - San Diego County, California, USA - Image 1

    Description

This mod applies exclusion polygons to areas covered in water in order to uncover them.  It also removes erroneously placed trees around water areas.  No scenery objects were added.

This mod fixes the following issues to the default scenery located in San Diego County, California, USA. I do not use other freeware or payware in the area, so I don't know if this conflicts with other third party mods.

New install notes starting with V1.6.

    To install:

    • Begin by removing any previous SDWaterFix* Folders from your community folder (including "sdwaterfix", "sdwaterfixoptional", and "sdwaterfixmarinas").
    • For those with default scenery only – place the "sdwaterfix” folder into your Community Folder.
    • If you have LatinVFR KSAN, place the "sdwaterfix” folder into your Community Folder, and then remove the following subfolder from the "sdwaterfix" folder - "____\Community\sdwaterfix\scenery\SDWaterFixOptional-mycompany"

    V1.7 Release Notes:

    • World Update XIII compatible, as functionality of Water Fixes was broken in SU12

    V1.6 Release Notes:

    • Updated to match up with World Update X scenery changes
    • Merged previous files into a single folder, see new install notes.
    • Cleaned up many lines to make water exclusions not so aggressive
    • Removed excess trees around Old Town, SD Zoo (there are still too many there), 5Fwy and some of the major streets around Gaslamp
    • Note:  World Update X has entirely new satellite imagery/photogrammetry.  This means the image for Petco park was taken at a time when the baseball field was converted for Monster Jam/Supercross.  I can't fix this, sorry Padres.

    V1.0 Release Notes:

    • Fixes issues of various roads and bridges appearing underwater along various rivers and bays.
    • Restores visibility of boats, ships, piers, and boat docks along the San Diego Bay, Mission Bay, Oceanside
    • Restores visibility of Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier, Imperial Beach Pier
    • Restores visibility of jetties near Imperial Beach
    • Removes some incorrectly rendered water that is not actually present in real life.
    • Removes incorrectly rendered trees among various piers, boats, docks.

    V1.1 Release Notes:

    • Now a modular installation, where certain water exclusions were made optional around the West Basin, East Basin, The Embarcadero/Coast Guard, USS Midway, Embarcadero Marina.  This was done to avoid overlap with LatinVFR.
    • Uncovered more random docks/boats around Navy Yacht Club, Coronado
    • Removed random trees growing out of ships and cargo
    • Uncovered Crystal Pier, Oceanside Pier

    V1.2 Release Notes:

    • Renamed modellib.bgl and scenery folders to help prevent conflicts
    • Uncovered Ocean Beach Pier
    • Updated shorelines for San Dieguito Lagoon, Baquitos Lagoon, Agua Hedionda, Buena Vista Lagoon
    • Cleaned up lines in Oceanside, San Diego Bay, and La Playa

    V1.3 Release Notes:

    • Made SDWaterFixMarinas an optional installation, to avoid overlap with scenery from other developers done at marinas.

    V1.4 Release Notes:

    • Fixed SDWaterFixMarinas so that boats appear at Embarcadero
    • Increased visibility of rock formations along the shoreline (from Sunset Cliffs down to Point Loma), and added some pop to the surf/whitewash
    • Extended the shoreline at Coronado beach
    • Unhid some jetties (Ocean Beach), and removed random generated water
    • Removed excess vegetation around the shorelines

    V1.5 Release Notes:

    • Removed excess water from Sweetwater River and National Wildlife Refuge
    •

    Does this still work?

Loved it before but just FYI the latest update broke your water fixes. :(

    I know, it’s unfortunate. Patiently waiting/ hoping for a fix from Asobo/MS.

i have LVFR ksan. i only installed the water fix & marinas. I DID NOT install the optional folder. why is Petco park baseball have no grass, its covered in dirt

Hi, that’s from World Update X (not my waterfix).

I noticed the same thing this week. They must have used a satellite image that was taken during Supercross!

Yep they were having a Motocross event at the time that the pic was taken. Kinda sucks because I think it looks a lot better as a baseball field. lol ⚾

Yeah, I'm not happy about the timing of the satellite image!

It is necessary to place these water fixes (and marina mod, navy yard, city scenery, etc) in any particular order for use with each other?

No order. All in the Community folder, same level.

I would love to hook up with you on Discord and learn from you. I want to do this for the Baltimore MD area, the Inner Harbor and such.

Not sure if its this add on, as i also have LVFR Sandiego, but with the latest version (1.2), when i loaded up a flight, i, almost instantly, got a CTD?! Can anyone else confirm? was in the SR22 @KSAN

I am glad you posted this file. Thank you. And I'm looking forward to your updates and any other fixes you publish. But first, please update the name of the modellib.BGL file to reflect MS/Asobo guidelines (Oct. 2020) to give it a unique name, such as adding the 'ICAO code' for airports to the file: Example (ICAO-modellib.BGL) or in this case, maybe sandiego-modellib.BGL, and then update the layout.json file to reflect the new name. The Problem: MSFS only reads the first file in the Community folder named modellib.BGL and then uses that file for all others with the same name. Renaming it avoids conflicts with any other scenery in the Community folder and gives your scenery the proper appearance with fewer problems/conflicts with other files in the Community folder.

The same is true for the 'mycompany' folder. Rename this as a unique name. Simply add the ICAO code to the folder name: sandiego-mycompany and update the layout.json file.

And the same is true for mymaterials if that ever applies to your scenery.

You can also completely rename the file(s) completely, leaving the appropriate extension.

Thank you for the info, I understand now!

It will be implemented in next versions and future projects.

Thanks for sharing this as I doubt Asobo would correct this in my lifetime :)

This add-on is a work-in-progress project for MSFS 2024 focusing on correcting water elevation issues encountered globally. The developer addresses problems as they are discovered during flights rather than systematically reviewing every location. Users can expect ongoing updates to enhance water accuracy throughout the simulators lifespan.
