    Iskort.is - Iceland 20m DEM - Image 2

    Description

20m DEM for Iceland based on the source data from Iskort.is / Vefsja.iskort.is. DEM is in high detail for Iceland.

Main goal of this update is for people to have a nice VFR flying experience over Iceland.

    Known issues:

Real world buildings show up as hills in the DEM, as it is so accurate, it's impossible for me to fix this country wide
Airports might have issues due to the dem, specially big hangers, - I'm working on geting the airports to be smooth,

I made a seperate "Fix" mod to address this issue https://flightsim.to/file/16868/iskort-is-iceland-dem-fix-20m-for-iceland so people can download that as I find issues and fix them.

Please note, This mod as any others, might conflght with other mods created by other people.

Does this work with su4 of 2024 msfs?

So should we still use the fix file, since this file was updated after the fix file? :) Thanks!

Too many anomalies still unfortunately, even with the separate fix file. Lots of spikes for instance on the south east coast and a huge dip in the runway of BISL which went away when I took out this mod. I usually LOVE height maps but this one causes too many problems unfortunately.

Very good job, unfortunately there is a big issue on BIRK airport from Icesim.

https://it.flightsim.to/file/7627/birk-reykjavik-airport, there are cliffs on the side of the runway and the runway is very sloped, please can you modify your DEM, to fit with this airport ?

    Thank you very much

Hi, I just made a test at Reynisdrangar/Reynisfjara/Vik, the ORBX Mesh are much more realistic, you can clearly guess the cliffs, not here.

    Hi

Thank you for this beautiful work. I think it will be easy to found your add-ons on Flightsim.to if you flag them with the Flag of Iceland.

    Hi:)

So do I put both folders in the Cummunity folder, or do I merge and overwrite the FIX folder into the main folder?

    And thanks for your work:)

Thanks, - you unzip the file into the community folder, so you'll have 2 folders in there from this single zip file.

I believe this is the best portrayal of Iceland yet so thank you very much for this :) Would you be able to do this for other areas in the world? I'd be interested to see what other places you do this for :)

Thanks, - I don't think I have acces to good data for other countries, sorry., it takes hundreds of hours to make the DEM

Well, thank you very much for this work!

I find it more detailled than OrbX meshes, as weel as less glitchy than Mikeaat's (whose work is also to be commended!). It really renders well on some parts of this beautiful island and immersion is great.

As mentionned, there are no "spikes" such as in Mikeaat's mod, and yet I still have problems. It seems "lod-related". I have sometimes a lot of artefacts (see images linked below, these one taken Hvannadalshnúkur, some spotted near Þórsmörk so far), that disappear when getting closer. Changing the terrain detail setting does not seem to have any effect (playing at 150, tried to push it at 200, without any result on thet distance at which these artefacts "fade"). Do you have any leads on how to fix them?

Thank you, - and yes, I have the LOD issue as well, and I have not found why they happen. I'll continue to investigate.
