Functional Cable Car "Hoher Kasten" Switzerland
This is AFAIK the first animated mountain cable car in our new virtual world. With this project I could combine my two favorite hobbys: aviation and cablecars/ropeways. For installation just load 'lsbhoherkasten' into your community folder. This will also place a POI for the mountain 'Hoher Kasten' itself.
The original plant is situated in the beautiful area of Appenzell in the eastern part of Switzerland. The cable car starts from Bruelisau (934m ASL) and climbs up to the mountain 'Hoher Kasten' (1791m). It is about 2.7 km long and operates with two cabins for 50 persons each. Two pilons in the lower part (35 and 55m high) provide distance to the terrain.
The model simulates a continuous operation, with about 1 min stays in the end stations. Departure and arrival are realised with realistic speed reductions. The wheel groups follow the rope (more or less), even at the pylons. Just follow the cabins with a helicopter or the MSFS drone to see the details.
To get there you may start at the near, existing airport LSZR Altenrhein, best with a helicopter or the drone. To ease observations, I have also created a virtual heliport near the valley station. Just select it with "LSBR Bruelisau" in the start menu of MSFS after you have loaded the 'lsbrheliport' into your community folder.
Restrictions:
- The ropes are not bended by cabin weight. Could be interesting to study and realise such a complex animation.
- Transitions between terrain and buildings are not yet optimal. To make it better I would need a terrain cutout function from Asobo.
Update to version 1.1 for the World Update 6, 6.10.2021
- The mountain station is now visible at the correct altitude (of course with the WU6 mesh).
- The summit has a nice revolving restaurant and an impressive antenna tower. I have integrated them.
- A lot of people are now visiting the summit.
To see this people, please load the following addon from Dave (many thanks to his superb work!) into your community folder:
https://flightsim.to/file/5452/dave-s-3d-people-library
I hope, you enjoy my experiment. Please comment and let me know, if there should be important corrections. Have fun!
Update to version 1.2, 19.10.2021
- Compatability to new "projectlifts" from "mamudesign" (additional cabin removed)
- More realistic colour for the pilons

Great Scenery! Thank you!

Hi! Thanks for this Scenery. I‘m working on a new scenery „Säntis Bergstation“ and just wanted to ask if you are also working in this area. Not to find out in the end, we made the same work ;-) is it difficult to create a moving cable car? For the moment im only working on static buildings on top. But if its not to complicated, i would like to ad a moving cable car… ps: i did not download your file yet and can not give you my vote. but i will do soon

You may stop your work, we made the same work. Accidentally I will publish just today my new Saentis scenery including the summit station building. Animating a cable car is first of all learning a lot of the involved programs. But then it is not too complicate.
By the way, if you want to design the rest of the buildings on Saentis summit, this would be great. I will not do that.

oh yes, i saw it. and i tested it today. it‘s a pitty i was to slow. but when i start a next project, i ask you first ;-) great work!

Great work, flew from the top to the base in my H135 and it worked as advertised! Will fly the "Stoosbahn" next R44 maybe?
If you are looking for any other project ideas here are two both in in the US. The Incline Railway in Chattanooga, Tennessee about a mile long from bottom to top and the Mount Washington Cog Railway in Mount Washington, New Hampshire, about three miles long and the first mountain cog in the world. The Cog might be to complex to do if even possible.
Thank you for a most worthwhile download and showing what can be done with the sim to make it even more alive, especially for those of us who fly helicopters to enjoy.

Thank you very much for the nice comment and your proposal. But to be honest: there are so many scenic cable cars in Switzerland to be done. Hopefully there are other MSFS designers to work on your local scenery .

I totally understand and look forward to seeing any future projects you may release.
Thanks again and happy landings!

I love such add ons and take my hat off to such skill. I know the high box, have often driven up there and have also hiked there a lot. What is urgently missing is a nice model of the Säntis buildings on the summit and of course at the bottom.

great work, excellent job on the animation!

Yeah very cool! Especially now with the tower!
What is next? Säntis tower and buildings? ;) Would be cool.
Or Titlis...
One question: What happens with this mod if I also have the "Project Lifts" mod installed? Does it work?
i also use that mod, no issue my end

Thank you very much for your nice comment. Well, it was quite difficult to get the real dimensions for everything just out of fotos available from the internet. This is a lot of estimation. It would make any task much easier with plans from the original plant. Do you have an idea, where we can get them for Säntis or Titlis (or others)?
I had a nice discussion some time ago with Federico, the creator of Project Lifts. He sent me a set of exclusion rectanges, which I integrated now in the scenery. So there should be no problem any more. Otherwise let me know, please.

Why not ask the Säntis-Schwebebahn AG directly, they would surely also be interested in this promotionally effective project?
