    Looking for a challenge? Try out landing here at Grimsey island with the custom-made airport (ICAO: BIGR) and google maps aerial imagery! The island is just north of Iceland so naturally, the airport there presents itself with some difficulty with the wind and sea battering your aircraft from all directions and testing your skills as a pilot. If that's not enough, the runway is only 23 meters across so being accurate is key.  With 105 georeferenced points, you will see that every building is matched up with the real-life one down to the decimeter. 

    This Scenery Is Fully Compatible With Iceland Overhaul by Baddweapon

    After countless forum posts about how the Grimsey airport or the island as a matter of fact was not available in Microsoft Flight Simulator, I decided to take matters into my own hands and learn from scratch how to create scenery. Hope you like it and the many more versions to come!

    -VERSION HISTORY-
    1.4 - (WIP)     Terrain fixes to northeastern parts of the island are being implemented with major bug fixes.

    1.3 - Terrain fixes to northwestern parts of the island have been implemented with elevation changes along the coastlines and adjustments to the town terrain itself to better reflect the actual island.

    1.2 - Terrain fixes to southern parts of the island have been implemented with elevation changes along the coastlines to better reflect the actual island.

    1.1 - Added PAPI lights and proper runway lighting based on official documentation.

    -DISCLAIMER-
    This is a work in progress and you will most likely find some odd things like grey-roofed buildings because of the previous bing maps imagery. If you do have any thoughts on how I can improve this scenery, please leave a comment! Other than that, I hope you'll enjoy this simple yet challenging airport!

    -HOW TO DOWNLOAD-
    Grab and move the two folders from the .zip file (toasterpilot-airport-bigr-grimseyairport and toasterpilot-bigr-aerial) into your community folder inside Microsoft Flight Simulator

    Very nice little airport :) On the other hand, the parking lot is not at the same level as the runway ...

    When I relaunched my flight sim carrer 4 years ago, it was Grimsey I flew from. Can't wait to see that mod fixed and compatible with Nordics update. Maybe adding some ships around would have been a nice touch? Grimisy is fishing village.

    This should be compatible with pretty much everything. Why I mentioned Keflavik is because the P3D version of the scenery also included Grimsey. I was just addressing the fact that the Keflavik scenery for MSFS will probably soon cover Grimsey, hence my reason for my decision.

    Can't recommend as it causes a regular crash-to-desktop in the airport's vicinity.

    MK Studios Keflavik Airport for MSFS does not include the Grimsey Airport so you can continue to develop it if you want ;-)

    Yep, after buying BIKF I found Grimsey to still be intact, however, it is just a question of time until they will begin on the other airports, hence my decision.

    Strangely enough I get a CTD if I fly to this area. I tried two times today, flying the 7th leg of the VFR De-Iceland tour of the Nordic division of IVAO. I approach from BIKP, and get a CTD as soon as I reach the island (once on final, once just about to overfly the runway). This is the first time I CTD with MSFS2020 since I reinstalled it two weeks ago. Any ideas?

    Update: I did another flight now removing the folder that contains the satellite imagery, and only using the folder with the airport. This time there was no CTD. So I suppose something is not working as intended in the other folder - maybe only since the latest update, since I don't see anybody else giving this feedback before. Maybe things just need to be recompiled with the latest version of everything? I am not familiar with scenery editing in MSFS, so I can not do any further debugging I am afraid.

    For some reason does not show-up in MSFS or LNM (updated). Normally use MSFS Linker, but also tried direct load into the community folder. Loaded both files but no joy. Also loaded Iceland Overhaul but have not tried yet.

    I would just download the .zip and extract both bigr-grimsey folders to your community one. I have never heard of a linker so if you do it the plain-old regular way you should be all good! If that doesn't work, just shoot me a message and we'll sort it out!

    -FIX FOR VERSION 1.3 COMING UP-

    You may have noticed that the latest version (1.3) brought fixes for the northwest of Grimsey, but it also brought some undesirable bugs/glitches along the coast. It is being worked on and will be released as version 1.3.1 before the entire island terrain is fixed with 1.4.

    -IMPORTANT FIX TO PREVENT CTD- An issue has come up in recent weeks which leads to MSFS crashing when you come close to the island. Here is a fix that should prevent those crashes as I've found the likely problem to be the aerial imagery.
