San Gimignano, Tuscany, Italy - Image 1

    Description

San Gimignano is a small fortified town in the Province of Siena in Tuscany, Italy. In classical antiquity, several Etruscan and Roman settlements were located near the site of the present town. San Gimignano began to prosper in the High Middle Ages as it sat on the Via Francigena, one of the great pilgrimage routes to Rome from Northern Europe. Like most Italian cities, San Gimignano declared itself a republican commune after Imperial German power had eroded in Italy in the late 12th century. In this period, the town's patriciate took up the Northern Italian habit of constructing magnificent residential fortress-towers, numbering 72 in total (the tower-building practice was a product of  extreme Guelph-Ghibelline factional warfare rife in Northern Italian cities from the 12th to the 14th centuries. It was also a way of showing off how much c$sh and power you had). Of these, 14 remain today. This period of prosperity ended when the Black Death swept through the town in 1348, killing half its inhabitants. San Gimignano never recovered, and it was soon annexed by the Republic of Florence. After the unification of Italy in the 19th century, renewed interest in the town's well-preserved medieval architecture led to its development as an artistic and touristic center. Today it is a UNESCO heritage site, and one of Tuscany's hidden gems.

@RazorRay I have all your sceneries installed and no issues with them, I've only had issues with San G, that's why I told you. Anyway, being it truly beautiful I'll install it again for a second check. Thanks

@rizal72 Hiya, I'm really new this stuff and didn't how to do LODs before, hence their absence in all my stuff so far including the one coming next. I will try to implement LODs in future projects, but for the time being I am quite satisfied with San G, the perf hit is minimal for me.

Your Tuscany sceneries are amazing, I love them, however this one, San Gimignano, is the only one that cause HUGE fps loss, dued to the LOD not beeing active. For now I've decided to remove it, awaiting for next optimization update. Thanks!

@IlParaCapo You can edit the project by moving the model around and terraforming the terrain or whatever but you can't materially alter the model. You will have to take a new capture and do the blender thing for that. What you could do though is colour-correct the textures in your package sources folder if you think they look off. DM me and I can give you slightly more detailed advice.

@RazorRay Thank you! I missed a step and I couldn't export the model... but today I finally did it. I made Monteriggioni today (the walls and the greenery nearby).
I was wondering if I could tweak the new model once it's saved and applied onto the game... can you please tell me how? I promise it's the last time I'll trouble you... thank you again for your patience :D

@IlParaCapo There are 2 addons you need in blender for MSFS to export gmaps data. MapsModelImporter and Blender2MSFS. They both have to be enabled for it to work. Refer to this video. I followed every step but one. The bit where you generate the GUID for the 3d model, it's more efficient to just use the sample included in the SDK folder and copy paste the custom GUID for your export into it than to manually edit it like he did.

@RazorRay Hi, it's me again... I'm trying to import Monteriggioni and Viareggio but I'm having trouble with the guide you linked me.
I succeed in every step up until when I have to export the model from Blender.

In the video guide there are some formats that in my blender don't show up... any idea on what's causing the trouble?

Thanks in advance and sorry again for the trouble.
    Have a nice day/night, bye!

You are doing a fantastic job. Tuscany is my favourite holiday region. It is a great enrichment for the flight simulator that there are your handmade cities. I read that your next project is Pisa. I am really looking forward to that.

It would be great if you would continue your Tuscany project, because there are so many beautiful places there, such as Arezzo, Montepulciano with the Pulcinella Tower, Montalcino, Monteriggioni, etc., etc.

Thank you very much for your work, which you make available to the community.

@IlParaCapo I'm probably gonna do Pisa next when I continue, but if you really wanna try your hand at creating scenery, this reddit thread has a fairly comprehensive list of tutorials. I'm really new to this as well to be honest.
