Description
This add-on is a more realistic and improved version of the default helicopter Bell 407 in MSFS 2020/2024.
Key Modifications:
- Adjusted cyclic sensitivity (more responsive left/right control)
- Reduced tail rotor pedal oversensitivity
- Smoothed collective response to avoid excessive climb/descent rates
- Improved trim responsiveness
- Slight increase in overall stability while maintaining manual control feel
We also used data from the Rolls-Royce/Allison 250-C47B to fine-tune the engine parameters:
- Torque (%): Green up to 93%, yellow up to 100%, red above 100%
- Rotor Np (%): Green 90–107%, yellow 108–110%, red >110
- Speed (KIAS): Green ≤ 140, Yellow 141‑142, Red >142
- N1 (%): Green 63–105, yellow <63, red <60
The FUEL_PRESSURE section has been revised to reflect more realistic fuel system behavior based on the official Bell 407 performance and maintenance documentation.
✅ What’s been changed:
- The default placeholder values were replaced with accurate PSI ranges reflecting operational limits of the boost pumps and warning thresholds.
- LowLimit set to 8 psi to trigger warnings when pressure drops below the safe operating minimum.
- The green range (8–25 psi) reflects the nominal output of the boost pump.
- The yellow (25–30 psi) and red (>30 psi) ranges indicate abnormal/high-pressure conditions.
- Ensures the fuel pressure gauge behaves realistically during startup, cruise, and emergency phases.
🔄 How to install:
Simply download the b407_chab_mod zip file and extract it into your Community folder.
❓ FAQ – How MSFS handles mods
Q: Why doesn’t your mod include all the B407 files?
A: Because it doesn’t need to. In MSFS, a mod only contains the files that are modified. The simulator automatically loads the base B407 package first, then replaces the matching files with the ones from the mod.
Q: Why is the folder structure important?
A: The mod must keep the same internal folder structure as the original aircraft, otherwise MSFS won’t know which files to replace. That’s why you see folders like SimObjects/Airplanes/B407 inside the mod.
Q: Does this mean my original B407 is changed?
A: No. The base B407 remains intact. The mod sits in your Community folder and only overrides certain files during loading. If you remove the mod, MSFS will go back to the original B407 automatically.
Q: Do I need to copy/rename anything?
A: No. Just drop the mod folder into Community. No renaming, no overwriting.

🆕 Update Notes — B407 Chab Realism Mod (External Shim) This update introduces a standalone external engine designed only for MSFS 2024. Important MSFS 2020 users do not need to download anything. The 2020 version remains exactly as before. Nothing has changed for you. This update is only for MSFS 2024 pilots who want to bring the Bell 407 closer to the realistic handling that was achieved in MSFS 2020. What’s new: - Added a headless external executable (B407Chab.exe). - The tool connects to MSFS 2024 via SimConnect and applies real-time trim corrections. - This restores a flight feeling that is less artificially stable and closer to the real Bell 407. - Runs 100% silently in the background — no windows, no interface. - Automatically stops when MSFS is closed. - Creates a desktop shortcut on first run for easier access. Usage Instructions: 1. Start MSFS 2024 and load the Bell 407. 2. Make sure the aircraft is on the ground (cold & dark or parking spot). 3. Double-click B407Chab.exe. 4. No window will appear — the tool runs silently. -> Check %APPDATA%\HeliShimB407\shim.log if you want to see activity logs. The tool will automatically exit when you close MSFS. Limitations: - Works only with the Bell 407 in MSFS 2024. - Does not modify any MSFS files — it is purely external. - > Still experimental: results may not feel identical to MSFS 2020, but the aim is to bring handling much closer. <-

How can I make sure it works ? I started the 407 in MSFS2024 on the ground, cold and dark, and just double-clicked the B407Chab executable. The software briefly appears in the task manager of Windows, but disappears instantly.
The shim.log only has the line :
"2025-09-29 11:41:51 Desktop shortcut created"
Is there a way to make sure the mod is working ?
Thank you for your help.

In fact if the shortcut has been created, it means that all is ok 🙂 We are working on an update with a window which says "Connected to SimConnect" or "Not connected to SimConnect" but that's the advantage of external engines: there is no conflict with the "community" folder. Maybe we didn't dare to push the limits too far (making the helicopter too unstable), but we will try to work to find a compromise. That's why feedback is just super important for us because sometimes it's complicated to know what users will like and what they won't like, so don't hesitate, really! We know that some creators don't like it but for us it's really crucial: so you can even contact us privately, it's always very informative!
Thanks again!

It's important for us to be clear: It's very complicated to make Mods compatible with MSFS 2024 because access to the files is very restricted. So we completely changed our method: create an external engine (shim) for all the aerodynamic part and pilot experience.
But as with all early versions, there may be bugs. Please let us know in the comments below.

Is this package a standalone mod or does the previous b407_chab_mod_bcyfg.zip also have to be in the community folder? I didn't notice any difference in the instrument coloring in either. 2024 SU3
