Asobo TBM 930 Realism Mod - Image 1

    Description

This is a modification to the MSFS 2020 default Asobo TBM 930 aircraft and is primarily aimed at improving the aircraft flight model to make its overall performance more closely match the actual aircraft, providing a much closer experience to flying the real aircraft.  Multiple changes have been made to the flight model and engine parameters which are detailed in the Change Log.  This mod does not add any new features or functionality to the original default aircraft.

This mod is easily installed by simply unzipping the download file and copying the mge-asobo-aircraft-tbm930 folder to the MSFS Community folder.  It will then replace the existing default Asobo TBM 930 aircraft in the MSFS aircraft selection screen, and will also continue to utilize all of the existing available Liveries.  To uninstall the mod and return to using the MSFS default aircraft, simply remove it from the Community folder.

Please tell me why I can't set the generator to the main position when starting?
Without this mod it can be set easily, but with the mod it doesn't work.

I am unable to duplicate this problem... The Generator switch operates normally on my system. The Crash Bar (black/yellow bar) must first be pulled UP before the switch can be operated. If it is not operating correctly on your system, check for a possible mod conflict.

This mod makes no changes to the G3000, so it should not interfere with any G3000 mods... but I have not tested this. Give it a try and if it doesn't work, just remove it.

    Dear all,

Is this mod officially compatible for the Asobo TBM 930 in MSFS 2024?

TIP OF THE DAY: The cabin pressurization system in this aircraft has two limits, a max cabin pressure altitude of 10,000 ft., and a max internal/external differential pressure (DIFF PSI) of 6.5. Exceeding these limits will trigger CAS alarms, which can be caused by either exceeding the max cruise altitude of FL310 or exceeding a climb rate of about 1500 - 2000 fpm.

To perform a max rate climb without exceeding these limits, open the Pressurization DUMP valve before takeoff which will allow the cabin altitude and climb rate to remain the same as the aircraft, and the DIFF PSI to remain at 0, during your initial climb. When you reach 10,000 ft. close the DUMP valve to pressurize the cabin and keep the cabin altitude below the limit. The DIFF PSI will then slowly rise as your altitude increases further, until you reach the limit of 6.5 PSI, after which you must then reduce your climb rate if you have not reached your target cruise altitude.

To increase the max power and torque during climb out and cruise, turn the INERT SEP switch OFF after takeoff.

TIP OF THE DAY: The TOGA button on this aircraft is a small black unmarked button on the side of the Throttle handle. Pressing it while on the ground will set the Flight Director to TO (takeoff) mode, which will arm the autopilot PITCH mode with 10° nose up, and the ROLL mode with wings level. After takeoff, follow this FD guidance or press AP to engage the autopilot in these modes. You can also press the HDG knob and the HDG button prior to takeoff to set the FD to HDG mode with the Runway heading.

Pressing the TOGA button in the air will set the GA (go around) mode, which will disconnect the autopilot and arm the autopilot Pitch mode with 10° nose up and the Roll mode with wings level.

TIP OF THE DAY: To easily reset the Rudder Trim back to neutral, simply press [CTRL]+[NUM 5]. Do this after leveling off at cruise altitude, or when your climb pitch attitude is below 5°. Adjust the Rudder Trim to minimize yaw during climb out by centering the Slip Indicator (bottom of the triangle) and the Bank Indicator (wings level).

Dear MGouge425, I tried your mod. But if I try to take off at KGCN, runway 03, with 20 kts. crosswind from 300 degrees (gusts 0), I cannot hold the TBM 930 straight on the runway. While without your mod I can (thus standard flightmodel). The TBM 930 manual states that 20 kts is maximum crosswind, so I guess it should be possible to keep it straight during take off right? I tried maximum left and right rudder trim, but nothing worked. Only diff. braking could help me, which is not want you want. So I uninstalled your mod again. Could you explain why this is happening and if this is realistic or not? Or perhaps fix this? I like the TBM, so if it can fly more realistic I am a supporter of that. Greetings, Boudewijn

    Dear MGouge425,

Thank you for your modifications sir. I just did the same test run at KGCN. And it went much better indeed. I tried the take off run again with 20 knots crosswind. In around 75% of the cases I could keep it straight with full rudder. In the other 25% of the cases I had to use 1 tap of diff. braking to keep it from going of the runway, but after that it was controllable enough to make it past the 40 knots, where enough rudder action again is present to keep it straight until V1. So it is much better then the last time, as then I could not keep it on the runway with almost continuous diff. braking, which can not be realistic. But now this is much better. My experience is that the crucial point is around 40 knots. Because, above 40 knots there is enough rudder action available. So if you keep it straight enough to 40 knots, you are in the clear.

Because this 20 knots crosswind is the maximum, and almost never happens, I am going to keep your mod and use it now. This is good enough rudder action for me, and some more realism in the flight model is appreciated. And you have done a lot too achieve that, so I read in all your specifications. I like the TBM 930 for its looks, range, etc. Too bad there is no payware variant of the 930, only the TBM 850. Hopefully someday somebody makes a good payware variant. Until that time I am happy with this plane.

Thanks again. Greetings from the Netherlands, Boudewijn

TIP OF THE DAY: The default Rudder Trim has been set back to 0 (neutral) for either a Runway or Ramp start, so it must now be manually set to the green T/O mark before takeoff.

    Version History

Version 1.4.0 ⦁ The default Pilot/Copilot Viewpoints have been moved slightly forward and up to more closely match the actual aircraft viewpoints. This improves PFD/MFD readability and forward and side external visibility. ⦁ The Prop Min/Max Pitch parameters have been retweaked to match the actual aircraft prop specs. This provides more realistic RPM during final approach and landing. ⦁ The Max Reverse Throttle setting has been reduced back to the original default value to reduce the max reverse RPM. ⦁ The Toe Brake Scaler has been decreased to improve braking smoothness. ⦁ The Default Rear Baggage Payload has been increased 100 lbs. to improve the default weight and balance. ⦁ The flight model Wing Position and Empty Weight CG have been retweaked to provide more realistic weight and balance. ⦁ The Landing Gear Contact Points have been retweaked to more closely match the default +2° ground pitch attitude of the actual aircraft, as specified in the POH checklist. This slightly UP default ground pitch attitude can also be seen in actual aircraft panel photos. ⦁ The Wing Dihedral angle has been decreased slightly to include the effects of the horizontal stabilizer anhedral angle. ⦁ The Vertical Stabilizer and Rudder geometry have been tweaked to more closely match the actual aircraft. ⦁ The Rudder Deflection and Effectiveness parameters have been retweaked to improve rudder authority during crosswind takeoff and landing. ⦁ The Default Elevator Trim for a Runway start has been set to 0 (neutral). It must now be manually set for takeoff. ⦁ The Aileron Up/Down Drag parameters have been tweaked to include the additional spoileron drag. This improves the Yaw Damper performance. ⦁ The Cruise Lift Scaler has been decreased slightly to improve the pitch attitude during cruise and final approach. ⦁ The Flap Induced Drag has been increased to improve takeoff and landing speed stability. ⦁ The Wing Flex Scaler parameters have been decreased to reduce flight model wing flex and more closely match the actual aircraft performance. ⦁ The P-Factor Yaw Scaler has been reduced back the original default value of 1. ⦁ The Flaps Lift and Drag parameters have been retweaked to improve the final approach pitch attitude and landing performance.
