    Asobo XCub Realism Mod - Image 1

    Description

    This is a modification to the MSFS 2020 default  Asobo CubCrafters XCub aircraft, including the XCub FLOATS and XCub SKIS variants.  This mod is primarily aimed at improving the flight model and realism of this aircraft, providing a more realistic flying experience that is much closer to the actual aircraft.  Multiple changes have been made to the engine and flight model parameters, and the aircraft weight and balance, which are all detailed in the Change Log file included under the Documentation folder.  This mod does not add any new functionality to the aircraft.

    The XCub is an amazing high performance STOL aircraft and is based on the original Piper Super Cub airframe.  The XCub is a two seat tail dragger aircraft with a strong spring steel main gear and large tundra tires and is designed primarily for bush flying from short grass or dirt runways. This is the  model CC19-180 XCub with a 180 Hp engine.

    This mod is easily installed by simply unzipping the download file and copying the mge-asobo-aircraft-xcub folder to the MSFS Community folder.  It will then replace all three variants of the default CubCrafters XCub aircraft in the MSFS aircraft selection screen, and it will continue to use all currently available aircraft liveries.  To uninstall the mod and return to using the MSFS default aircraft, simply remove it from the Community folder.

    TIP OF THE DAY: This aircraft does not have a trim gauge in the cockpit. The AFM checklist says to set the trim for takeoff by visually setting the horizontal stabilizer leading edge to a takeoff mark on the empennage. Unfortunately, this mark is missing so just set it to the center of the slot at the leading edge. You can also takeoff with the trim at Neutral (0%), which is actually 2.5° DOWN on the stabilizer.

    To see the actual trim setting, enable the COCKPIT or EXTERNAL HUD option in MSFS and set the trim to 25% UP for takeoff, which is the default setting when starting a flight on the Runway.

    TIP OF THE DAY: Here are two excellent short training flight plans for practicing VFR or ILS Approach and Landing procedures that can be easily entered from the World Map...

    KPAO (31) > CEPIN > AXMUL > KSFO (ILS 28R)

    KNUQ (32R) > NIRYI> CEPIN > AXMUL > KSFO (ILS 28R)

    Open WORLD MAP and enter the DEPARTURE and ARRIVAL airports and runways, then use the SEARCH box to locate and ADD each waypoint. Then, press [Spacebar] twice to open the LOAD/SAVE screen and save the flight plan as a .PLN file so you can easily reload it and repeat the flight.

    Set the target ALT to 1800 ft. and tune NAV 1 to the ILS RWY 28R frequency of 111.7... Go to SkyVector.com and select KSFO to view the ILS RWY 28R approach chart for reference.

    After entering or reloading the flight plan, select FLY to start the flight on the runway or select a PARKING RAMP spot to start the flight from cold and dark.

    The brakes seem a little weak, I've never flown a carbon cub but I imagine the stopping distance at full braking power to be a little more impressive

    You can easily increase the braking performance by opening the "system.cfg" file and editing this value...

    [BRAKES]
    toe_brakes_scale =0.5

    But, if you set it too high the aircraft may have a tendency to nose over when the brakes are applied.

    Am I the only one that get a -2.5deg pitch offset on the G3X and standby ADI instrument after installing the mod ?

    Thanks for the mod !

    Level cruise flight (Fuselage, Wings and Stabilizer level) in this aircraft results in a pitch of -2.5° on the attitude indicators.

    Hello, is it possible to fix the fuel pressure indication that stays in the red area at 8 psi after engine start?
    Thanks.

    Done... Thanks for finding this issue. A new version has now been uploaded that matches the actual aircraft specs.

    Hello, Small feedback, you might want in the cockpit.cfg to change the following section :
    [DIRECTION_INDICATORS]
    direction_indicator.0 = 1,0

    To :
    [DIRECTION_INDICATORS]
    direction_indicator.0 = 3,0
    direction_indicator.1 = 3,0

    The direction_indicator variable have been switched to 3 in the default cockpit.cfg file to avoid gyro drift that can only be corrected with D for the aircraft that have the G3X since AAU2 came out.

    Do note that it affect all aircraft with the G3X, so both this one, the NX Cub and the VL-3 are affected

    TIP OF THE DAY: To correctly read the fuel gauges, always use the scale on the right side of the fuel tubes, which is the scale for level flight. The left side scale is intended for when the aircraft is on the ground with a 10 degree nose up pitch attitude. Unfortunately, this has not been modeled and the fuel levels in the tubes remains the same regardless of the aircraft pitch, so only the right-hand scale is usable. The fuel capacity of each tank is 24.5 gals., with 1.5 gals. unusable. When the fuel levels shown on the MSFS Weight and Balance screen reach 1.5 gals. per tank, the fuel levels in the tubes will be at 0 and the engine will stop.
