This is my hand-made scenery and night lighting for the Cairo Citadel using models I have created in Blender 2.9. 
 

The Cairo Citadel is a medieval Islamic fortress located in the heart of Cairo, Egypt. Dating from the 12th Century, it has long served as a seat of cultural, political and military power for the Islamic rulers of Egypt. From it’s elevated position in the Muqattam Hills, the site enjoys commanding views across modern day Cairo from the heart of the city, with a clear line of site to the River Nile in the West and the Great Pyramids of Giza beyond. The entire complex is a UNESCO world heritage site and can be seen on final approach to Cairo International Airport (HECA) runways 05L, C and R and is a prominent VFR marker. It is located approximately 15km SW from runway 05C threshold and immediately to the SE of Al-Rifa'i Mosque (which is already a default MSFS POI). 

The fortress is home to two of Cairo’s most important mosques: 

Muhammed Ali Mosque: one of the most famous landmarks in Cairo, this 19th Century mosque was built by Egypt’s Ottoman rulers. It is a grand structure, with distinctive, needle-like minarets reaching over 80m in height. Muhammed Ali Mosque can be seen from almost anywhere in Cairo (both in line of site and on the back of every 20EGP note!).  
 

Al-Nasir Muhammed Mosque: located next door to Muhammed Ali Mosque, this mosque is less grand but significantly older. Built by the Mamluk rulers in 14th Century, this mosque’s castle-like stone walls and deep-set inner courtyard contrast nicely with the architecture of it’s neighbour. It features a distinctive green dome and two ornate minarets located at opposite edges of the structure.

INSTALLATION: Just unzip the archive and move the uncompressed folder to your MSFS community folder. Delete to uninstall. :-) 
 
Version 2.0 NOTES: 

In this update I have added a whole new mosque! Consequently, it made sense to shift the focus of the project to include the whole Citadel site, which I hope to add to in the future. I have changed the file title and updated all the screenshots accordingly. Here, then are the notes: 

• Added Al-Nasir Muhammed Mosque, which is right next door to Muhammed Ali Mosque on the Citadel site. 
• Changed the POI marker to “The Citadel” (rather than have individual POI markers for each building, which becomes extremely cluttered in the sim view).
• Updated night lighting for both buildings.
• Minor refinements to size and placement of Muhammed Ali Mosque.
• Updated file title, description and screenshots on flightsim.to page to reflect change in focus of the scenery project. 

Please delete the previous version of the file (CairoMAM-model11) from your community folder before installing this one in order to avoid scenery conflicts.
