Las Vegas Municipal Airport, USA - KLVS - Image 1

    Description

Las Vegas Municipal Airport (IATA: LVS, ICAO: KLVS, FAA LID: LVS) is five miles (8 km) northeast of Las Vegas, in San Miguel County, New Mexico.

The airport was a stop on the first air route between Denver and El Paso that began in 1929. Mid-Continental Air Express first flew the route with stops at Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque. Western Air Express acquired the route by 1931, replaced by Varney Speed Lines Lockheed Vegas in 1934. In 1937 Continental Airlines flew Lockheed Model 10 Electras followed by Lockheed Lodestars.

Service was interrupted in the late 1930s but Continental returned with Douglas DC-3s and stops were added at Trinidad, Colorado and at Raton, Socorro, Truth or Consequences, and Las Cruces, New Mexico. Continental pulled out in 1952 due to airport conditions. Pioneer Airlines DC-3s served Las Vegas from 1948 to 1952 on a route between Albuquerque and Dallas via Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Tucumcari, Clovis, Lubbock, Abilene, Mineral Wells, and Ft. Worth.

Two commuter airlines briefly served Las Vegas: Trans Central Airlines in 1969/1970 with flights to Albuquerque and Denver on a route similar to that of Continental, and Territorial Airlines in 1990 with flights to Albuquerque and Raton, NM. The airport currently receives air cargo service by South Aero with flights to Albuquerque on behalf of UPS.

This is a new project which I'm going to need help from the community to complete. I need good quality photographs (suitable for texturing) of any of the airport buildings. If you can help, please contact me.

Hi, nice little airport. I enjoy the small details. My only comment was that I struggled to get past the truck parked near the entrance to the ramp (MSFS 2020). Other than that, I had a pleasant visit.

    Hi dstraka,
Thank you, glad you like it so far. I'll take a look at the truck next time I update the add-on.
    Best wishes,

Thanks. When I arrived at the airport this morning, the truck was parked near my plane - not where it was yesterday. Interesting and baffling. :)

Really nicely done! Visited Las Vegas, NM many years ago so it's nice to have a base to explore the area from. I appreciate the continued attention to your airports, all the little details here are great.

    Hi Denny,

Thank you, glad you like it so far.

When I first bought MSFS in 2020 this was the first airport I started from (I thought it was 'the' Las Vegas). Anyway, long story short, this airport is now the start and end of my MSFS round the world flights. I only fly GA aircraft and so the last trip took almost a year (A2A Commanche). This time I noticed Google had updated their Street View imagery for the airport and so I was able to add additional details. I hope to vist the airport in real life one day.

    Best wishes,

That's an awesome story about how you discovered it, and so cool on the round-the-world GA flight! Glad you had time to work on airports between those flights! :)

Might be an issue on my end, but the apron textures near hangars show as checkerboard for me.

    Hi Forkboy2,

Hmmm, yes, probably an issue your end. Try re-downloading and copying to your Community folder again. In case you're not aware, when you get the checkerboard it means a texture is missing / corrupt.

Tried re-dowloading and didn't help. Any idea off-hand what texture you used for ground around the hangars? Could it have been from another scenery? Thank you.

Wonderful work creating this scenery. I am surprised that the helipad north of the parking area wasn't made to be a helicopter starting point. Thanks for the good work.

    Hi eddunnpe,

Glad you like it so far. Thank you for your observation, the helipad is now a selectable helipad!

This project is still very much a work in-progress. Unlike my other projects, I've never actually been to KLVS, so I am totally dependent upon finding photographs on the Web (and there aren't many)!

    Best wishes,

    Phil

Thanks for the update. I've flown this airfield both in real life on my way from home in Kansas to Flagstaff and now in MSFS as well. I'm going to do the helicopter trip to Albuquerque next.

Cool! BTW, do you have any photographs of KLVS, in particular the buildings, that you can share? They are few and far between on the Web. If you do, my email address is bailsoft@hotmail.com

Sorry, I don't believe I have any photos. I don't get that way very often now. Wish I could help.

    Version History

Changes this time: 1. Compatibilty with MSFS 2024 confirmed. Yes, I bit the bullet and upgraded. A few things look a little different, but generally all is well. 2. Lighting improved as per airport charts: PAPI added to both runways and OLADS approach lighting to runway 2-20. 3. Custom windsock with segmented circle added. 4. Apron yellow lines smoothed. 5. General lighting improvements including prevention of bleed through and intensities. 6. Static trees removed and replaced with dynamic trees. Whilst these look less like their real-life counterparts, they move when it's windy. :) 7. Floating walking tarmac worker removed.Turns out the animated characters only walk horizontally i.e. don't follow the terrain. 8. Additional taxiway signs added. 9. Tweaks here, there, and everywhere.
