Asobo King Air 350 Realism Mod - Image 1

    Description

This is a modification to the MSFS 2020 default Beechcraft King Air 350i aircraft and is primarily aimed at improving the aircraft flight model to make its overall performance more closely match the actual aircraft, providing a much closer experience to flying the real aircraft.  Multiple changes have been made to the flight model and engine parameters, which are detailed in the Change Log file included in the download under the Documentation folder.  This mod does not add any new features or functionality to the original default aircraft.

This mod is easily installed by simply unzipping the download file and copying the B300-asobo-aircraft-kingair350 folder to the MSFS Community folder.  It will then replace the existing default Beechcraft King Air 350i aircraft in the MSFS aircraft selection screen, and will also continue to utilize all of the existing available Liveries.  To uninstall the mod and return to using the MSFS default aircraft, simply remove it from the Community folder.

This mod is for the default MSFS 2020 King Air 350i. It has also only been tested for compatibility with the Proline 21 mod, but it should work with any other mods that only update the Instrument Panel files. All Livery mods should also be compatible.

TIP OF THE DAY: Like most Turboprop aircraft, this aircraft has a special Throttle Range between IDLE and REVERSE called GROUND FINE that is used to control Taxi Speed and minimize the need for constant braking. In this range the Prop Pitch is set between +2° (Ground Idle) and -3° to reduce the Idle Thrust. While MSFS 2020 does not support this Throttle mode, it can be simulated by briefly setting the Power Levers to REVERSE for 1-2 seconds to smoothly slow the aircraft down during taxi without swerving left or right.

You can also briefly press the [NUM DEL] key to evenly apply both brakes and prevent swerving while slowing down or stopping during taxi. To set the Parking Brake after stopping, continue to hold this key down and then tap the [CTRL] key.

TIP OF THE DAY: When making an ILS Approach, Press the [MENU] button on the center pedestal to manually select and tune NAV1 to the ILS Frequency and NAV2 to the airport VOR frequency. Then, enable the left and right BEARING POINTERS on the PFD to show NAV1 and NAV2. You can then easily see when you are within range of the VOR and ILS signals. The NAV2/VOR pointer and ID should appear about 50-60 nm out, and the NAV1/ILS pointer and ID will appear about 20-25 nm out. You can also select AUDIO and enable NAV2 audio to hear the VOR identifier code when you are within range.

TIP OF THE DAY: A Good Rule of thumb for Power Management in this aircraft is; Set the POWER Levers to IDLE for TAXI and TOUCHDOWN, MAX (90-100% TORQ) for TAKEOFF, 75% TORQ for CLIMB and CRUISE and 10% TORQ for DESCENT. Set the PROP Levers to MAX (1700 RPM) for TAXI, TAKEOFF and APPROACH... and 1600 RPM for CLIMB, CRUISE and DESCENT.

TIP OF THE DAY: The installation folder name for version (1.6.1) of this mod has been changed... So, to avoid conflicts with the previous version (1.6.0) you must delete the old one before installing the new one. You can verify that the new one is installed by checking the aircraft Registration Number, which should be "B300-161".

The last update (1.6.0) included a change to the default PANEL.XML file to update the FUEL FLOW displayed on the EICAS from GALLONS per hour to POUNDS per hour... Unfortunately, this change conflicts with the Proline 21 mod because that mod replaces all of the files in the PANEL folder.

A new version (1.6.1) has now been uploaded that addresses this issue and makes the mods compatible again.

TIP OF THE DAY: When tuning the NAV1 / NAV2 radios on the PFD touchscreen, enter the desired frequency and then select XFER instead of ENTER so that it will immediately become the new Active Frequency.

TIP OF THE DAY: Setting the CABIN ALT to 9,000 ft. will allow you to cruise at any altitude up to FL330 without exceeding the aircraft pressurization limits (max CABIN DIFF PRESS = 6.6 psi and max CABIN ALT = 10,000 ft.). Increase it to 9,500 for max cruise altitude (FL350).

TIP OF THE DAY: The Max Speed cruise altitude for this aircraft is FL240... Set the POWER LEVERS to Max and the PROP LEVERS to 1600 RPM. The Max Range cruise altitude is FL330... Set the POWER LEVERS to about 75-80% N1 and the PROP LEVERS to 1600 RPM.

TIP OF THE DAY: When descending in VS mode, a good rule of thumb for setting the Vertical Speed is to simply divide your altitude by 10... At 20,000 ft. or more use -2000 fpm, at 15,000 ft. use -1500 fpm, at 10,000 ft. use -1000 fpm. For a smooth continuous descent, below 20,000 ft. decrease the V/S by -100 fpm for each -1,000 ft. of altitude until you level off at Approach altitude. Then, set the flaps to APPROACH and resume descending at -500 to -1000 fpm.

TIP OF THE DAY: If you enable the FLIGHT ASSISTANT / AI RADIO COMMUNICATIONS option your copilot will automatically make all requests and responses to ATC. But sometimes it may get stuck in a loop, repeating the same request over and over... To quickly fix this, just open FLIGHT ASSISTANT from the Toolbar and turn this option OFF and back ON again. Also, be sure to disable this option after every flight to prevent it from failing the next time you want to use it.

TIP OF THE DAY: To minimize the pushback distance required to safely avoid obstacles when you are ready to taxi, request an immediate 90° right/left turn at the same time you request pushback. Press [SHIFT]+[P] to end the pushback immediately after the turn.

TIP OF THE DAY: If you have entered an IFR Flight Plan from the World Map that includes an ILS Approach, the ILS Localizer frequency will be tuned automatically when you approach the Destination Airport. You can also manually tune the NAV 1&2 radios to any VOR / ILS frequency by pressing [MENU] on the center console to display the Radios menu on the PFD touchscreen.

To determine when to switch the NAV source from GPS to LOC during an ILS Approach, watch for the white "G" to appear next to the Altitude Tape on the PFD. This indicates that you are receiving the ILS Glideslope signal and you can change the NAV source from GPS to LOC1 to capture the Localizer. After LOC capture, press [APPR] to arm the Glideslope for capture, as indicated by the white "GS".

TIP OF THE DAY: Before starting a flight from the World Map, always open the Aircraft Selection screen first and select WEIGHT AND BALANCE, even if you don't want to change the default fuel or payload. This will then cause a highlighted max range circle to appear when you go back to the World Map, which allows you to verify that you have sufficient fuel to reach your planned destination and alternate airports.

After entering a new IFR flight plan on the World Map, or loading a saved flight plan, select the Departure Airport and select ZOOM TO DETAILS. Then click on the desired Departure Ramp to begin the flight from Cold and Dark. Your IFR flight plan will then be automatically filed with ATC, so you can request and receive IFR Clearance from ATC after starting the flight. Ramp 4 at KLAX is an excellent Departure Ramp for this aircraft.

TIP OF THE DAY: The Throttle TO/GA button on this aircraft is INOP. But you can still easily engage this mode to provide Takeoff or Go-Around pitch and roll guidance, or autopilot control, by simply pressing [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[G].
