Asobo Diamond DA62 Realism Mod - Image 1

    Description

This is a modification for the MSFS 2020 default Asobo Diamond DA62 aircraft and is primarily aimed at improving the aircraft flight model to make its overall performance more closely match the actual aircraft, providing a much closer experience to flying the real aircraft.  Multiple changes have been made to the flight model parameters, and the aircraft weight and balance, which are detailed in the included Change Log file found under the Documentation folder, along with a PDF copy of the actual Airplane Flight Manual (AFM).

This mod is easily installed by simply unzipping the download file and copying the mge-asobo-aircraft-da62  folder to the MSFS Community folder.  It will then replace the existing default Diamond DA62 aircraft in the MSFS aircraft selection screen, and will also continue to utilize all of the existing available Liveries.  To uninstall the mod and return to using the MSFS default aircraft, simply remove it from the Community folder.

The Diamond DA62 is an amazing new generation General Aviation Light Twin aircraft that offers some unique capabilities and very impressive performance when compared with other popular light twins.  The high performance low drag aerodynamic design of the fuselage and wings on this aircraft, coupled with the unique 180 HP engines that run on much cleaner and less expensive Jet A fuel instead of 100LL Avgas, allow it to perform extremely well, and much more economically, when compared with other light twin aircraft.  Because they run on Jet A fuel, these engines do not require either spark plugs or magnetos, which simplifies thier operation and improves reliability,  and the other normally complex engine management tasks are controlled by a modern ECU, which completely eliminates the need for the Mixture or Prop controls.  To fully appreciate its capabilities, I recommend viewing this very informative video from Diamond Aircraft... I have revisited the AFM and found out 3 major issues:

    1. Takeoff performance: Configuration of default weight (less than 1900kg), trim@T/O, flag@T/O, the plane cannot rotate at VR (76 knots) and even at V50ft (83 Knots) it sinks. Actually, it can barely rotate at V50ft. (AFM page Page 5 - 15)
    2. Takeoff climb: At Vy (86 Knots) it just sinks (AFM Page 5 - 36)
    3. Power load: I believe this is due to the stock calculation. At max power level, OAT@35C, the engine load can only go up to 87%. It is way too low (AFM Page 4A - 33)

Thanks again Mike for this wonderful mod. I have noticed that after SU16 the engines of the unmodified DA62 cannot go 100% load even at full power lever during takeoff. Is it affecting this mod as the modified plane cannot go 100% either, only up to 92 or 93.

I am unable to duplicate this problem... Full throttle produces 100% Load on my system. Check you throttle controllers for correct operation and configuration. Sometimes the settings will get changed when you apply an update. Also check for possible mod conflicts.

Thanks Mike. Now, I am able to achieve 100% at much lower OAT. Could it be the weather affecting the performance of the engine? I never can fully understand Diamond's ECU so this could be my fault.

I can confirm that it is purely related to OAT. At 35C the engines can only go up to 87% load, even with stock DA62. Not sure if this is the correct performance. I cannot find out anything from the AFM regarding this.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You, for this last update. It does make such a difference when flying long trips.
There is one final, well at least for me, bug. On the Fuel System page the Load % for each engine is double that on the Engine page. This is the same in FS2024 as well which I realise is not what this MOD is for. Is this fixable in FS 2020 by your good self or does it have to go back to the great black hole in the sky?
Once again thanks for all the hard work and diligence you expend to make our lives happier.

Thanks... Unfortunately, I don't have the required skills to fix your additional bug. It sounds like Working Title will have to fix it since it is also present in the G1000 of MSFS 2024.

    I'll get that reported thanks.

    Hello,
Whenever I fly the DA62 I always use this mod soa huge thank you for all your work and attention to detail that is sadly missing in MSFS.
I recently took the DA62 for a long flight Yorkshire down to Rome and along the way it became clear there is a discrepency between what the G1000 fuel page reports and what the sim says. Is this sometyhing you can fix?
    Thanks again.

Thanks for the great feedback... The Fuel QTY gauge displayed on the MAP page of the MFD appears to be tracking the MSFS Weight and Balance page correctly. If you are referring to the GAL REM and RANGE calculations displayed on the ENGINE/SYSTEM page of the MFD, make sure you manually set the GAL REM fuel quantity to match your fuel onboard before takeoff. Select the ENGINE/SYSTEM/GAL REM page to do this. A description of this procedure can be found on page 21 of the G1000 Cockpit Reference manual found under the DOCUMENTATION folder of my Asobo C172SP AS1000 Realism Mod.

The fuel consumption rate has now been adjusted in the latest mod release to match the POH specs, which should improve the G1000 fuel and range calculations.

I did all that and it still reports fuel being used faster so that the fuel remaining goes out of sync even if you reset fuel remaining during flight. Let me try different a/c with G1000.

    Hello,
I downloaded your MOD but I encountered a problem when starting the engine.
I have an error message on the dashboard SYSTEM.CFG NO COMPATIBLE and the engines refuse to start.
    Am I forgetting a procedure?
    Thank you

First, make sure you installed the correct folder into COMMUNITY as described above... Then, look for a possible conflict with some other mod or livery by temporarily dragging all other mods out of COMMUNITY, and adding them back in one at a time.

Is it possible to open the doors? Maybe in an update or something?
