Five Mile Camp Airport (PAFV / FVM) - Image 1

    Description

This version 2 is both MSFS 2020 and 2024 compatible.

Five Mile Camp Airport (FMV) is a small, private-use gravel airstrip located near Milepost 60 of the Dalton Highway in Alaska, just north of the Yukon River. Officially designated as PAFV by the ICAO and FVM by the FAA, it’s operated by the Alyeska Pipeline Company and owned by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management – Pipeline Office.

    Airport Overview:
    ·         Runway: One gravel runway (11/29), measuring 2,700 feet long and 75 feet wide
    ·         Elevation: 510 feet (155 meters) above sea level
    ·         Type: Private-use, primarily supporting pipeline operations

    Historical Significance:
Five Mile Camp Airport was the first airstrip built to support the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS). During the massive pipeline construction effort in the 1970s, the runway was carved directly from a widened section of the highway. Alyeska maintained manned gates to halt traffic during aircraft operations—a testament to the logistical challenges of building infrastructure in Alaska’s remote interior.  The airstrip played a key role in crew changes for Pump Station 6 and was actively used into the 1990s. It was one of 14 airfields constructed to support the pipeline, which saw a peak workforce of over 28,000 in 1975.  Today, while its operations are limited, Five Mile Camp Airport remains a quiet but enduring symbol of Alaska’s engineering grit and the vital role aviation played in one of the largest civil projects in U.S. history.

    Installation:
Copy the airport folder inside of the Zip file into your MSFS Community folder.

This airport was created using Standard Asobo/Microsoft libraries found in the sim.  I also used the FREE “UK2000 Common Objects Library”, and the FREE “Emerald Objects Library” found in the sim Market Place.  If you have not previously installed these libraries in your Community folder, some objects may not be visible in your sim.  Remember, you only must install these one time.  All Microsoft World Updates should be installed also.

There is an Easter Egg installed.

Sadly your creations are generally surrounded by white and grey square instead of ground texture> Do you have an idea about the problem ?

Yes, the ground material I am using is not installed on your PC. If you send me a screenshot example, I can tell you what material it is, and how to fix it.

    Thanks for the airport !
Just wanted to start from FVM and found my altitude correct at about 500ft. But when
planning my flight with Little NavMap it shows an airport altitude of 9843 ft, I guess based on the addon data. Not dramatic of course :-) but may be something for you to check in your next update.

Hey thanks for your kind words!

I put a lot of hours into Five Mile Camp Airport (PAFV). Unfortunately, Asobo broke it when they released update SU8. The runway is now a trench. Could you confirm that? I would appreciate it a lot,

Yes that's an easy fix :) just tick the terraforming on the runway in the dev mode, lift a bit with the gizmo. I had to do some of this with my own release (check my uploads)

Five Mile Camp Airport (PAFV / FVM)

Five Mile Camp is the second of the 10 airstrips built along the 400 mile Haul Road.  The camp here was built to support construction of the highway and the North Slope pipleine.   The mostly gravel road is one of the northern most roads in the US.  Air strips were needed along the route to support the construction camps.  (See map.)
