    Description

    KPDK Dekalb Peachtree Airport

DeKalb–Peachtree Airport (IATA: PDK, ICAO: KPDK, FAA LID: PDK), also known as Peachtree–DeKalb Airport, is a county-owned, public-use airport in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The airport is located in the city of Chamblee, just northeast of Atlanta. It operates 24 hours per day, although it is uncontrolled from 11:00 PM EST to 6:30 AM EST (Monday through Friday) or 7:00 AM EST (Saturday through Sunday). The airport has many hangars and is the second-busiest in Georgia. There is one helipad which is used by the four major network-affiliated television stations (WAGA, WANF, WSB and WXIA). PDK is also the home of AutoPILOT Magazine, an advertorial publication covering all things aviation-related. Nearly every building at the airport are handcrafted, with a few not done because the information from Google Earth was just to blurry and couldn't be determined what it is.  Three open hangars, Atlantic Aviation, Signature Aviation. and Aero Center EPPS Aviation.

    History
The area currently used by  PDK was a Army training camp during World War I for the 82nd Division.  In 1940 the land was converted into a Naval Air Station with operations beginning in March 1941, a few months before the United States entered into World War II.  The NAS later moved to Marietta and was called Dobbins Air  Reserve Base. NAS was eventually closed by base realignment and closure (BRAC).  PDK was converted from military to civilian use from 1957 to 1959. Commercial shuttle service began in 2017.  Ultimate Air Shuttle began operating commercial flights between PDK and Lunken Field in Cincinnati.  Service was expanded to connect PDK with Charlotte Douglas International Airport in 2019. However, service was suspended in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Great work! Thanks for sharing. I use MSFS 2020 and don't see the animated hangar doors as noted in your recent v1.0.5.
Does this only work for MSFS 2024?

Yes it work in FS2020 which was used to create the scenery. I just downloaded it from flightsim to make sure there are no problems. You can trigger the animation by using the weather settings to change the time to something between midnight and 6am to see if the doors will close and after 6am to see if they will open. Also check here

jd-airport-kpdk-atlanta\SimObjects\Landmarks and see if you have 5 directories
    atlantic-doors-front
    atlantic-doors-rear
    kpdk-epps-aviation-doors-front
    kpdk-epps-aviation-doors-rear
    kpdk-n-ramp1-hangar-doors

I'm using the MSFS Addon Linker to manage my addons so I don't use the default community folder location for mods.
If it's working in FS2024, then I would say that you have issues with FS2020, this verify that the download is good.
If all looks good, you can try a verify and repair using the XBox app. I use it don't lose any of my configuration settings. If you have the flight yoke hidden, the doors will remain open between midnight and 6am

Thanks for your help. Indeed, the doors work during the times you indicated. Very cool. It would have been great to have some sort of trigger apart from the time periods (i.e., keyboard command). I note with some other addons hangar doors can operate automatically every 2-3 minutes, which might also represent another alternative. I particularly enjoy the cold and dark parking spots within the hangars that you have implemented. Thanks again for your excellent work.

Hide/unhide the flight yoke between midnight and 6am will open/close the doors. This does not work on certain planes in FS2024. The only thing I dislike about this is that this will open the doors on all hangars. I am thinking of having you tune the nav radio to a frequency for each hangar with a sign on the inside and outside of each with the frequency. I will also look at the keyboard option. There is also the proximity option that will open the doors when within a certain distance from the hangar.

Indeed, the yoke hide/unhide works well. Appreciate the tip. Any of the other options you indicated would also be very useful. However would it be possible for any of the above options to work around the clock instead of 12-6am? Most of my flights tend to be outside these hours.

So you would like an option to open the doors any time. If I remove the time option, the doors should remain closed until the yoke or what other option is used to open them. The only problem is that any AI traffic including airport vehicles that use the hangar parking will just taxi thru the doors. Not an issue for those that don't use any traffic. I will see what I can come up with.

Personally, I would think the AI issue with the doors is an acceptable trade-off for the ability to open/close them 'on command.' Thanks for considering!

I was able to get the doors to open by turning the NAV light on/off. The only thing with this is when you land with the NAV lights on, the doors will open regardless of the distance. I tried to use a light that is not normally used, like flood or panel. The sim will only allow NAV. I would like to get the doors to open by tuning the NAV radio to a certain freq which would have many freq to choose from. I'm also trying to get the proximity to work.

Absolutely fantastic scenery. The attention to detail is amazing! I bought you a coffee (or two) for this one. It would be fantastic to see the 57th Fighter Group restaurant in a future update, as well as the physical VOR beacon modeled where it sits between RWY 34 & 21L. I honestly feel this scenery would be perfectly complete with those two additions.

I’d love to possibly commission you to make a scenery of D73, Monroe Georgia if possible? I work for the city there so I have access to the airport to get reference photos. Should be a little easier than PDK just due to its smaller size, the hardest parts would be the custom FBO and the patio/deck at the SkydiveMonroe hangar. Let me know if this is possible, I’d love to support you!

Already have the restaurant on my list and will add the VOR when I push the next update. I will add D73 to my list. I guess the FBO is located here 33.77933210033039, -83.6930988494494. There is a gate that kept street view out. If you have photos, it would help. I wills see what I can find on the net

That is actually is a maintenance hangar. The FBO is 33.77828° N, 83.69360° W. And there’s also new hangars being built right now at 33.78192° N, 83.69579° W. Maybe one day soon I can drive through and get a video pointing everything out.

Great job! Now that I have tried it I am even more impressed. Perfectly modeled the multiple FBOs on site at PDK. I wish it was still all EPPS signage at the aerocenter, but it looks as it does now. Only thing I would say is it would be cool to modelt he 57th fighter resturant. A cool landmark at the airport. Love how good the old tower looks and the suronding building. The attention to detail on the fire station and helicopter areas make it perfect. By far the best KPDK I have seen in a sim. Cannot wait for more GA airports around the country (KSDL!)

I didn't want to do PKD, but so many users wanted it and I gave in. Enjoy the scenery.

I was there the other and Pilatus has their own hangar/building next to Aerocenter. I should have taken a pic at the signature FBO! If I ever get the opportunity to rent an aircraft an fly out of there irl I will take pics!

OK, thanks as soon as I get them I will update the scenery.

    Holy Crap!

Finally!! I was wondering why nobody made a scenery for one of the busiest airports in Atlanta and arguably the South Eastern US. I was getting so frustrated with the default scenery that I was about to teach myself scenery design just to update it myself :-)

Thanks so much for taking this on. I'm currently doing my PPL here at PDK and the default scenery was a mess. Looks like you even fixed the elevation issues with the taxiways. It looks spectacular!

The only thing I would add is a few Pilatus' in the Epps hanger and maybe a few static business jets scattered here and there.

Once again, thanks for creating this important airport!
