    D28 – Tanglefoot Seaplane Base, Idaho - Image 1

    Description

Tanglefoot Seaplane Base is located on beautiful Priest Lake, on the west shore of Cavanaugh Bay, less than a kilometer from Cavanaugh Bay Airport, 66S. Priest Lake is 19 miles long and 3 miles wide, covers an area of 26,000 acres, and is a major tourist destination in northern Idaho. Its attractions include boating, fishing, and hiking in the summer, and snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing in the winter. Several large resorts dot the 80-mile long shoreline, which is surrounded by the 7600-foot high Selkirk Mountain Range.

Each year the Washington Seaplane Pilots Association hosts the Tanglefoot Splash-In at the seaplane base. A large number of sea planes, floatplanes, and amphibious aircraft jam into the small base for a weekend of camping, cookouts, presentations, and other social activities.

    Tanglefoot as implemented in MSFS

D28 appears in the simulator as the single water runway 15W-33W. None of the associated infrastructure is represented. This add-on implements the Tanglefoot floatplane docks, beach, seaplane ramp, and large hangar. Numerous other scenery items are also included, such as a windsock, flag, camping area, vehicles and signage Three parking spaces have been added – one at the floatplane dock, one on shore for an amphibious plane, and one at a mooring buoy out in the bay for a seaplane. A static Grumman Goose occupies a second buoy. There is a small amount of lighting for night time, and the CTAF of 122.9 has been added.

It just so happens that the Splash-In is going on right now. There are a lot of planes already at the base, but there is still plenty of room to park on the beach, at the dock, and in the grass. Come join the fun!

    Notes

To install the airport update, unzip and place the folder titled "mulberrywing-airport-d28-cavanaugh-bay" in your community folder.

To see the float plane dock you will need to download the Seaplane Asset Library from flightsim.to and place it in your community folder. Many thanks to 30West for providing this great library!

Are you going to make this usable in 2024?

I would be happy to, if there is interest.

I'm sure there is interest. There's not much out there for float flyers. From what I've seen most are just water runways. Of course, I don't know what that will take.

I'm trying it in 2024 now. The only issue I've seen so far is the tent to the far left is just the frame and some green blobs. Everything else seems ok.

From your picture it looks like the same terrain issue exists in MSFS 2024. I'll start to work on it.

Great add-on but sorry, why did you name the map and files differently from the name of the add-on and the name of the airport (Tanglefoot Seaplane Base, Idaho) ? If you search your files later or want to see if there is an update, it is very confusing.
The ICAO code is not easy to remember, but the name usually is...

That's a really good point. I think I started to use the bare ICAO code in the filenames because of the issue with file lengths. There were a few cases where, with all the typical subdirectories to get to the community folder, the length limit was being flagged. I'll try to use an abbreviated version of the airport name in the future to make things easier to remember and find.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

The airport services glitch is still there. It deletes all workers at all airports. The file I downloaded does not have the folder renamed. What is the link to the updated file?

Got it! Thanks for a great job.

Sorry for the continued issue with airport services. I have submitted a new version that seems to fix this (as far as I can tell). The zip file is labeled as version 1.0.2, but the folder inside has the original name. If you look in the AirportServices folder, there should be just one folder, named D28.

There is a glitch in MSFS that disables airport services and aerotow for gliders if the subfolder for Airport Services contains any text other than airport ICAO. Looking forward to being able to check out this scenery once this gets fixed; looks great!!!

I submitted an update with the airport services directory renamed to "D28" (and a few other minor bug fixes). I hope this is what you need. If not, please let me know what I can do to get this to work for you, as I was not aware of this MSFS issue. Thanks for your feedback!

Fixed an issue with the terrain, lowering the airport area so that there is no longer a steep climb from the lake to the airport.
