I don't think there's any need for this any more. This will only be of use if you don't want to use up your storage with the rather better official version. I know I can be a right space miser so it may as well stay put for old time's sake.

This is a bit of a kludge made from land reclaimed from the sea.

I'd love to offer you water to splosh through and sand to whip up but the ground textures are a git to control so the surface is concrete that sort of looks like sand.

With proper sand I couldn't get rid of a mysterious undersea meadow that turned big patches into lush grass. I may figure out something better.

This has five parking spots and a fuel truck. Not sure whether to make the runways visible or not, the real ones aren't obviously, so I'll leave them for you to guess for now.

V 1.1 includes a full set of taxiways, dunno if they work, filled in the road surrounding the airport properly and I figured out how to make the shoreline a whole lot less janky. I also took the artistic decision to add a bunch of wooden posts to delineate the runways. Not sure how effective it is yet.

V 1.2 is about repairing the taxiways and getting the AI pilot to work. It does, a teensy bit, though the pilot often makes a break for freedom or sits there and does nothing. A tad more detail has been added to the airport too.

V1.3 managed to add proper ATC and ground services. The options available are rather more extravagent than the real thing I must say. I still cannae design a taxi system that the AI can cope with. It works in bursts and then gives up at illogical points. Too many runways too close together I guess. I'll continue to fiddle.

V 1.4 - The autogen buildings have been binned and better approximation of the terminal has been stuck on. Parking spaces have been changed from medium GA to small GA to get rid of jets. Signs have been tweaked. ATIS has been added but I've no idea which actual airport it comes from. Redid the pole system to aid some visibility and comprehensibility but it's still not A1 and never will be.

Two versions are now included - one with poles and one with no visual aids at all for those hard core realists which is the second separate download from this page.

Issues - The runways are sometimes visible, sometimes not. No idea why and I can't stop it. At worst you'll get some skid marks so imagine a Hebridean granny rakes it with her little tractor to help you out.

AI still goes nuts. It can't comprehend so many runways in such small space.

Runway signs are minuscule despite being set at the right size.

That was a fun watch. I think I should have made the beach bigger really but I wanted to make the runways close to the water. There's another version here that I think did the beach better - https://www.bushleaguelegends.com/addons/msfs/msfs-scenery/msfs-scenery-uk-ireland but let's see what the official version looks like next week.

First impressions are awesome. Flew here a few times in real life on the good old twin otter - flying here will be super sweet when that's released!

    Awesome job mate, top man!

Thank you. This one will soon be toast as Asobo will be releasing their hand crafted version in a week or two. I'll see if there's anything to add to theirs but I expect it won't need much, if anything.

    Hi Superspud
I have some recent photos taken of Barra if you would like them.
RWY 07 has permanent landbased marker cones. All the others have 'sticks' as you say. I spent some time in the tower having fun and have addit pics if you would like them.

That would be great. Drop an email through my profile if you have a link to them. Like I said I'll be slightly appalled if the Asobo one isn't several miles better but there's always some gap to fill somewhere.

Glad you dug it. That and an Islander are prime wants for me. The closest equivalent is the Caravan, and with a Loganair livery it properly looks the part https://flightsim.to/file/691/cessna-208b-grand-caravan-loganair , but it has way too much of a candy ass takeoff distance for real Scottish flying.

hey, i've added this to my Community folder, restarted the game, but for some reason I can't find it when searching for it

This download has two version folders in it, one with poles to aid your orientation, and one without as reality. The community folder can't see down a level so you need to go down a level yourself, choose one of those folders and paste that one.

Did anyone Zendesk the fact that the airport is missing? I'd sure like to be able to start cold and dark here vs. airborne. The mod is great. I'd like to see Kisimul Castle (Clan MacNeil) updated someday.

Lots of moaning about it when the sim released so I'd be surprised if it hasn't been. I've noticed Bing maps really, really doesn't like it when the tide's out. Most places where I know there's a vast beach the tide is all the way in every time. I guess this one would take a fair bit more personpower than a bog standard missing airport so they may not get around to it for a long time to come. Maybe it'll be a premium treat some day. It's certainly unique and famous enough. Hopefully you can start cold and dark as is just like anywhere else. If not let me know.

flew in today, although i noticed there might be 2 frequencies for GND on it? could you check on the frequencies on the airfield , and it also has no ATIS i believe, not sure if you can do that. Also i think traffic or runway cones are more visible from the air than the wooden sticks and easier to determine a runway with them, you get lost a bit in looking for the marked wood if you dont have a Garmin but great work otherwise!

You're right. Thanks for spotting that. That's rather slack. ATIS with non existent airports is very hit and miss but I can give it a try. They try to draw it from the nearest real one, but often you get nothing. The posts are not really working, it's true. I think cones may have the same visibility problem, they don't pop up until very late as they're so small and slight. I'll give it some experimentation and update the other stuff tomorrow.

no worries, but i find it also hard to spot the sticks when im on the beach itself then being thin and a merging colour with the background, but no worries take your time :) if you think ATIS wont be reliable as much dont add it, no worries but give the cones a try :) thanks again

oh yeah one more thing, is there a way you can remove the citation from there haha, jets dont really fly in :)

That's the first place I'm headed when I finally buy mine. I think the parking spots are small general aviation ones but I'll double check. The Citation does pop up in some incongruous places so maybe they've classed it as that.

@gchristie Actually I did start with that but got so bogged down with a blizzard of polygons I threw in the towel. I'd like to do that whole section of Shetland and I'll get around to it soon ish.

@GabrialWolf The real thing has a permanent marker at the ends of two of the runways but the SDK is really limited for things like that.

The runways that are marked received one sad road sign at the end of them as that's the only thing that sort of matched.

Edit - found some wooden posts buried in the objects and added them.
