About this file

Nice  is the seventh most populous urban area in France and the capital of the Alpes-Maritimes department. The metropolitan area of Nice extends beyond the administrative city limits, with a population of nearly 1 million on an area of 744 km2 (287 sq mi). Located in the French Riviera, on the south east coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea, at the foot of the Alps, Nice is the second-largest French city on the Mediterranean coast and the second-largest city in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region after Marseille. Nice is approximately 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) from the principality of Monaco and 30 kilometres (19 mi) from the French-Italian borderNice's airport serves as a gateway to the region.

The city is nicknamed Nice la Belle (Nissa La Bella in Niçard), which means Nice the Beautiful, which is also the title of the unofficial anthem of Nice, written by Menica Rondelly in 1912. The area of today's Nice contains Terra Amata, an archaeological site which displays evidence of a very early use of fire 380,000 years ago. Around 350 BC, Greeks of Marseille founded a permanent settlement and called it Nikaia, after Nike, the goddess of victory. Through the ages, the town has changed hands many times. Its strategic location and port significantly contributed to its maritime strength. For centuries it was a dominion of Savoy, and was then part of France between 1792 and 1815, when it was returned to the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia until its re-annexation by France in 1860.

The natural environment of the Nice area and its mild Mediterranean climate came to the attention of the English upper classes in the second half of the 18th century, when an increasing number of aristocratic families took to spending their winters there. In 1931 following its refurbishment the city's main seaside promenade, the Promenade des Anglais ("Walkway of the English") was inaugurated by Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, and owes its name to visitors to the resort. These included Empress Victoria of India along with her son Edward VII who spent winters there, and Nice born Henry Cavendish, who discovered hydrogen.

The clear air and soft light have particularly appealed to notable painters, such as Marc ChagallHenri MatisseNiki de Saint Phalle and Arman. Their work is commemorated in many of the city's museums, including Musée Marc ChagallMusée Matisse and Musée des Beaux-Arts. International writers have also been attracted and inspired by the city. Frank Harris wrote several books including his autobiography My Life and Loves in Nice. Friedrich Nietzsche spent six consecutive winters in Nice, and wrote Thus Spoke Zarathoustra here. While Anton Chekov completed writing his play Three Sisters when he was living in the city.

Nice's appeal extended to the Russian upper classes, Prince Nicholas Alexandrovich, heir apparent to Imperial Russia died in Nice and was a patron of the Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Nice where Princess Catherine Dolgorukovamorganatic wife of the Tsar Alexander II of Russia, is buried. As are General Dmitry Shcherbachev and General Nikolai Yudenich leaders of the anti-Communist White Movement.

Those interred in Nice at the Cimetière du Château, include celebrated jeweler Alfred Van CleefEmil Jellinek-Mercedes, founder of the Mercedes car company, film director Louis Feuillade, poet Agathe-Sophie Sasserno, dancer Carolina OteroAsterix comics creator René GoscinnyThe Phantom of the Opera author Gaston Leroux, French prime minister Léon Gambetta, and the first president of the International Court of Justice José Gustavo Guerrero.

Nice has the second largest hotel capacity in the country and it is one of its most visited cities, receiving 4 million tourists every year. It also has the third busiest airport in France, after the two main Parisian ones. It is the historical capital city of the County of Nice (Comté de Nice).

Addon history:

v1.0: initial release

v2.0: overall optimization:

This is a major update that optimizes the package, as it drastically reduces the number of texture files:

- less files on the package:

before: 27197 files

after: 2021 files

- reduced CPU footprint

- reduced loading time at startup

- less CPU load, so it can leads to better perfs depending on the config

- better road traffic integration

v2.1: Fix some texture flickering issues

v3.0: Fix a big issue with the LOD management system, due to the way Google Earth Decoder places and sizes the tiles. Now, there should not be any FPS issues, and framerate should be better and more consistent

v3.1: Add a fix for possible CTD issues ( https://flightsim.to/blog/creators-guide-fix-ctd-issues-on-your-scenery )

Installation:
Extract both nice, nice2 and allianzriviera folders into the Community folder

Lovely!! I thought i didnt install correctly the map because when i looked the south of the city from ground at the airport i saw the generic scenery, but later at the air i saw it and... boooom love it!! I like the way you move away the water at the port to be able to see the boats and water port texture, the game creators should also do it with the smaller creeks, rivers and beachs. The Alianz stadium is super :) thank you very much!! regards from Alicante!

Hi! Thank you very much for this nice package ;) I am right at this very moment using your optimization tool, so thank you very much for it as well. Is there any news to it - because you optimized Nice again, so I wondered if there is something new to your tool as well?

I will soon, but it is not user friendly. It is a python script for blender, that uses a node js script.

I have node.js installed.. so, I could beta test, if you'd like :D Looking forwared to it! Thanks for your great work so far!

Here it is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10wA66Z5faL298xwzcU8bvxcAmSXdndqi/view?usp=sharing Important ! This script is intended to be used with a min Lod level of 17. How to use: 1) install node js, then install xhr2 module, with this command: npm install xhr2. 2) extract the scripts from the archive to the folder of your choice 3) open fps_optimisation.py in blender, then change those vars: - projects_folder: the parent folder that contains all your projects - project_folder to point to the project you want to optimize - temp_folder: a temporary folder of your choice - node_js_folder, which indicates the folder where the node js script is placed - alternatively, you can change the lods array (set the minsize for several lod levels, starting from 17 to 23) Once done, launch the script Important! When it's finished, clean and rebuild your package. Issue: a little decal in the tile positions, that you probably have to fix manually.

Thank you so much for sharing. I already tried.. the workflow looks similar to the .py you already have shared on reddit. I get an error for trying to copy a missing LOD though. Will try again and report.

This script only works for sceneries already optimized with https://www.reddit.com/r/FS2020Creation/comments/jhvhq0/new_optimisation_tool_for_google_earth_decoder/ Later, i will merge the two optimization tools.

I've tested quite intensively! I get more consistent results when using the scenery_optimization tool only. Sometimes with the fps_optimizer all textures get scrambled and glitched at a certain zoom/lod level. Are you aware of this? Thanks a ton, its the best there is for making these photogrammetries useful! :)

This is the LOD i chose. You can choose less agressive lods by changing the target_lods array. With the fps_optimizer, the LOD min sizes must be changed. And in my scenery, the textures are not scrambled and glitched. Have you checked that the doubleside value was correctly set to false in the gltf files ?

    Troglodytus replied
    November 23, 2020
Oh okay, so maybe I set the wrong LOD size! I will check the point with doubles in gtlf, will report shortly! and: Thank you!!!

There is a little issue with this scipt: the resulting tiles are positioned with a little decal with the ground, so you have to manually move them once the optimisation is done. In the MSFS SDK, select all the tiles, then move them until they fit correctly the ground in the x and y axis. When it's done, it is possible that some tiles have the wrong altitude, so i created another script to fix it. I will provide it soon (this week, i guess).

Hi, me once again. Sorry for bothering you! This time, I tried to just use the scenery improvement tool (the primary tool, I always mix the tool names, sorry :D ) and now the same thing happened, that normaly only happens to me when using the secondary tool: This time all textures got scrambled with the first improvement too. Screenshot: https://ibb.co/hyXzZT4 Do you have any insights on this?

This means that the UV map has been changed, or you lost the UV map. I do not have this pb, and the script does not change the UV map. Consider restarting from your backup files.

thank you, yeah thats really strange, because if I load the optimized files into the sdk its fine, its just the package that gets created.. the package is scrambled :/

Lived in Cannes for a few years, recognize a lot of areas, nice work! (See what I did there :) ) Can you do Cannes as well? and Mandelieu Airport maybe to cover the whole area between Nice and Mandelieu Below, someone already mentioned LFMN, I completely agree with that !
