On testing this I don't think a single thing has changed other than the autogen being better and more bonkers too so it's fully usable as is. I may give a couple of places a brush up but the proper rework of elevations is going to have to wait.
This is a complete reworking of the Channel Islands in the English Channel.
Jersey, Guernsey, Sark, Alderney, Herm, Jethou and Brecqhou have all been dragged from the sea upwards and also the three main airports in the islands have been modified to work with the scenery files, plus a new airport created too.
The first flight I took in this sim was from Exeter to Guernsey. Something seemed strange when I approached and I realised all of these islands are totally flat in the sim. This is definitely not true in reality. Despite this EGJB Guernsey and EGJJ Jersey airports have major levelling problems in the sim too.
I've raised all of the islands from sea level to somewhere near their correct altitudes, creating hills, cliff and valleys. The available terrain tools are painfully crude and this will be obvious in many places - odd transitions, flat plateaus, strange ridges and sections where I've clearly said 'bleurgh, that'll do.'
This is down to having to juggle differing altitudes and terrain falloff whilst also stopping the sea from being pulled upwards, and one area breaking fatally the moment I repaired another area. Alderney in particular looks like someone has been using it for origami practice and then gave it a chew.
I tried to raise docks and rocks from zero metres above sea level but it's simply not possible without creating huge glitches. A few might have escaped. You'll know them if you see them. The major docks have been populated with watercraft.
EGJB Guernsey, EGJJ Jersey and EGJA Alderney airports have all been tweaked and are included in the folder. Extra detail has been added all over, their landscape problems have been cured and other broken stock elements such as parking spaces have been replaced. Alderney airport seems to be a little glitchy with unknown runway surfaces and a tree that appears and disappears on a runway but it works.
Brecqhou has had a 150m grass airstrip fitted for you - ZEGBQ - to irritate its evil owners by landing on their lawn.
I haven't terminated all of the daffiest buildings, there isn't much to replace them. And as ever there are trees everywhere that I should remove but for once they're extremely handy for covering up my brutality.
I'll return to this and try to do better in plenty of areas. Let me know if anything's broken. I THINK it all works together well enough.
This is six folders (sorry), one for each airport. One scenery file has Guernsey, Sark, Alderney, Herm, Brecqhou and Jethou in it. The other has Jersey. I didn't realise I was doing this in a separate file until it was too late and I couldn't be arsed to restart it.
I'm finding often issues don't show up for me but do seem to for other people and vice versa too. Let me know if you have any.
V 1.8 -
The latest update creates a second separate download which has deleted all my boats, apart from the Condor Liberation which nearly killed me getting it in there and a lifeboat, to make way for this - https://orbxdirect.com/product/seafront-channel-isl by Seafront Simulations which is a free download from Orbx that does a way, way better job with the boats than me. I'd say it's a must have.
The main file has the most stupid boats from my 'interpretation' removed and renames the modellibs.
I'll be adding more to the docks with both versions soon.
Let me know if I broke anything. The RSI from deleting all those boats might have scrambled my mind.
Pretty empty over here.

I guess thats nothing a third-party could make, since its some core-sim functionality.

Hi guys,
-
I think its time for a section "working on". It would be so good to see if anyone is actually working on something particular, to avoid multiple people doing the same thing. There is this request section on flightsim.to which is awesome, however, I suggest a supplementary section, where people can actually upload their WIP.

sorry for question but...how can download the wallpapers?

Would it be a lot of trouble putting the version number in the My Uploads page?

Bring back the 48hrs Recent Activity drop down please!

Very nice mod! Thank you very much!
I flew over the channel islands - World Update 3 GB installed - without and then with your mod installed. And your mod is really a great improvement. WU3 AND your mod installed - amacing scenery!

Hi Spud. I'm loving your work so far - pretty prolific..
I am mostly interested in Alderney having done most of my PPL training there in 1998.
My memories are fading but I have a picture which shows the tower back then.
Fueling (the cheapest in the UK at that time) was delivered by bowser which was parked on the grass along the SE edge of the light patch of tarmac. It also housed a small outbuilding/shed which was where the sample gallon jars of fuel were stored. These collected daily for perhaps a month, in case of investigation.
Your elevation data makes the island so much more realistic. Brilliant.
There are no lead in lights for R26, in fact there is a barbed wire fence within 50' of the threshold which kept sheep from straying onto the runway.
I hope some of this ramble helps if you decide to "tweak" it further. Thanks again. K

Both Guernsey and Alderney runways are way,way too high but the terminals are at the proper level. Running MSFS v1.13.16.0

What a great peace of work! I'm enjoying islandhopping!

I'm confused on the two separate files. I have the Seafront Vessels Channel Islands installed. Do I only install one or both?

Magnificent work, as a channel Islander it is great to have some hight to the Islands. How has MSFS not put it right, land elevation was in earlier versions of Flight Sim.
Buckrogers1
Does anyone know if this works with the new UK update?

I also had major problems with the Seafront Simulations compatible version of your Channel Islands scenery! Jersey Airport runway is now situated on top of a high embankment with all the airport taxiways and buildings down in a deep valley! This was after a second installation of this package, the first time there were no airport buildings at all! I haven't tried Guernsey Airport, I have deleted the whole package and reinstalled your original package, which worked perfectly with the Seafront Simulations pack anyway!

Thanks very much for this. Brilliant with the new ORBX boats. I didn't fly around looking for problems but just flew from Guernsey to Jersey and the overall impression is excellent. Your coastlines are far better than stock too.

Hi, great work, but my flight simulator crashed twice always above the harbor of The Bridge at Guernsey. Anyone else with similar issues?
That's the previous version with the old modellib location but with the boats removed.
I will trie to avoid the area. Let me know in case you find something.
Anyway big thank you for the support.
Looks like there is a general problem of MSFS with bing data
https://orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/205152-eglc-is-making-the-sim-crash/
The problem comes from the orbx file. Following statement was posted on 14.2. in their forum:
As we know the CTD issues being reported recently and ongoing are due to a problem concerning Asobo and Bing Data.
There has been the suggestion to turn off Bing Data in your MSFS options. This will resolve the issue until a fix is forthcoming.
However, by turning off Bing Data you are also affecting the massive amount of Bing data available worldwide in the sim.
It has been determined and confirmed that only addons that contain a CGL file will cause the CTD, not Bing Data itself. Possibly a combination of the two.
My suggestion as an alternative to losing all the positives of Bing Data being available is in all the addons with a CGL file, to rename the CGL file to CGL.X or .BAK.
This will remove any CTD happening but still allow Bing Data and it's benefits to function.
This is only a suggestion as an alternative to completely disabling Bing Data and thus losing it's benefits worldwide.
I have briefly been through the Orbx/Partners addons that contain CGL files so you can, if you wish, rename those CGL files to e.g CGL.X and still keep Bing Data enabled.
The list below may not be ALL the addons but certainly the one's I found after a quick check:
ENAL
EGLC
EGNM
EGNT
EGPN
ENNO
ENTO
ESGG
ESMS
EGTB
EGMC
LOWG
LOWI
KBCE
OG20
SINGAPORE LANDMARKS
SYDNEY CITYSCAPE
FLY TAMPA SYDNEY
PARIS LANDMARKS.
There may be more so please check your own installed addons.
When Asobo/Microsoft fix the issue you will need to revert the name of those files back to plain CGL.
The choice of action to prevent the CTDs until a fix is issued remains at your own personal discretion and choice offered in the 2 options.
I renamed the .CGL file and now it works.

Superspud you're doing the lords work here buddy... great job as usual!
