Death Valley, California
Reliving a roadtrip around Death Valley continues with my custom reworking of Stovepipe Wells airstrip which seeks to compliment my Furnace Creek airport
It seems like pilots like to visit both runways, which is just as well as Stovepipe seems under threat of closure so its a shame our sim landings don't add to the count.
What I've done
- Improved runway and apron textures with custom paint markings to match real airport (airstrip??)
- Removed all airport structures not present at real airport
- Removed fuel and airport workers
- Removed asphalt overun, now you can sink into the dirt!
- Added custom models with PBR materials
-Ton of handplaced shrubs
- 4 parking slots
- Reduced 'green hue' around the airport.
- more than 60 handplaced car tyres, never again.
Thats it, a simple runway and a failry simple make over which has greatly improved my SDK skills. Yet I reckon it looks alot better!
Just need this excellent library if you want the windsock to show, thank you to the dev!
Finally cracked the file structure so only one file to go in the community folder! Phew.
I hope you enjoy and please let me know if any aspect can be improved.

Beautiful detail but it became a slide show about 50 feet AGL and remained that way on the runway and apron. Other than that, it's a beaut.

I cant do it unless it comes already as a zip file. The other wont work. I cant download either of your airports. other developers no problem.!

Really nice job! LOVED the detail on the logbook! Any idea if there's been a decision on closing the airport? Appears to still be open now, and no news online I can find other than an article about the petition.

Thanks for the review, I'm pleased you liked it. The log book is a photo of the actual one, as of Dec 2020 at least!
The only update on the fate of the strip I could find was a proposal by the RAF to turn it into a dirtstrip as a way of keeping it going? I guess this will be cheaper to maintain?
Lets hope it stays open.

Your file is showing as a .7z file. Many of the other creators make it a simple zipped folder. It's easier to extract for most folks.

Thanks buddy. I've aleady uploaded Furnace creek so please check it out. Chicken Strip is next then Big pine or Beatty. Largely depends on getting good source photos! Watch this space. Enjoy!
