Furnace Creek Airport L06 - America's lowest and hottest airport! Death Valley! - Image 1

    Description

Welcome to my re-worked Furnace Creek airport - famed to have the lowest elevation in America at -211ft.

Why would a Brit who has never been to this airport invest his time re-working it for the community?  Well I spent a 3 week road trip around the Southwest a few years back and wow death valley left an impression on me.  Nothing like it on Earth!  So its hot has hell (48 degree the day I visit furnace creek) and it was once at the bottom of a great lake. The  geology, people, history and of course the names, death valley, stove pipe, Dantes peak...sorry back to flying.

If you know the area I hope you enjoy my closert match to the real airport that I can acheive.  If you have never been then give it ago!  In my time building a saw many of you guys flying high on your way to KSFO but only one soul took off from the furnace! There is more 10 parking spots for those cool multi-player sessions!

Anyway this is my first serious attempt at an actual airport so any feedback welcome. Has blender been a learning curve, painfully so but fun right!

    What have I done:-

    - All airport buildings replaced with custom models with full PBR materials, many in 2k. (I left the ranch as the auto gen was perfect).

    - Runway and apron markings replaced to match the real aiport

    - Water masks added.

    - Lots of scrub added

-Removed runway lights and other items not present at actual airport.

    - Helipad added.

    What I messed up:-

    - The file system defeated me yet again.  I think next time I will get it right but for now there are two files. One clearly for the airport and the other called 'buildings'.  You need to stick both in the community file.

    - There is a wonky texture on one of the buildings, dam it I will fix it next time. I doubt its noticiable.

Some members have encountered issues with the Rar files so i've re-packaged as a zip file.  Please choose between downloading the rar or zip

    Thanks.

You need these excellent librarys for a few  extra objects to work, but not essential.  Thanks to the devs for their hardwork!

Maybe something's off with my PMS50 GTN750 unit, but I tried to do a visual approach to runway 15, and it instead gave me an approach to runway 33. Is it possible to accidentally reverse the runway numbering on MSFS 2020? Either way, it still holds up beautifully in MSFS 2020, all these years and updates later.

Many thanks from Warstein in Germany for re-designing this to a very interesting place to fly :-)

Excellent representation of this unique location. Many thanks!

Now back in Germany, I have been standing right besides the hangar during a road trip, visiting Death Valley National Park just one day after re-opening due the severe flood damages.

You have taken scenery design to a new low. ;) Excellent job, btw.

FWIW, I don't think the issue is the .rar file vs. the .zip file. I downloaded the .rar file first and discovered that the .json files in both folder are corrupt and the scenery fails to load.

I then downloaded the .zip file, and in that archive the .json files look fine and the scenery loads. Just a little FYI for when you come back around to do housekeeping on this scenery.

    And thanks for this scenery!

Is it compatible with WU9 (USA 2) and SU10?

There are 2 files to download but both contain the same folders, do i just download the main file or also the old furnace file ?? Because like i said they both contain the same folders so no idea what to do here

Hi, some members had issues with the RAR file so I added the same files but in a zip format. Unpack the zip file and place both folders into your community drive.

I'm coming back to this one shorlty for a little 'housekeeping' so will will rebuild the package so you only need one file (I couldn't work it out at the time).

    All the best.

Thanks mate! It’s an awesome place, can’t wait to go back!

This is a fabulous recreation of the Furnace Creek Airport (L06)…many thanks to the author! From online images and information I’ve seen after installing this, it’s pretty much a spot on emulation of the real world airport facilities. Right down to the wild burro holding pens! Why burros you ask? The NPS has a strict “no burros or wild horses” policy, and programs have apparently been in place for some years to humanely round up these docile creatures (left by prospectors many decades ago after abandoning their mining claims) and ship them out of the National Park. The burro pens at the airport serve as a temporary holding area. (To get the full experience, make sure you have the listed 3rd party libraries installed!) Will look forward to Stove Pipe Wells and Chicken Strip getting a "realism" facelift... MSFS has fuel stations at each (a common MSFS occurrence) which I do not believe their real world counterparts have, etc. Great work, and thanks again!

Thank you EdTruthan! It was a tricky one to put together as it was tough finding good images. One image had the burro pens in it otherwise I would have been clueless to what the use of the land on airport was for. After all it’s not what you would expect to find on an airfield! Thanks you the description which was very interesting! Shame they can’t leave them be if they are doing no harm. All the best!

yes i remember seeing the golf course and thought what the heck! On the way out to bad water I saw a sign for the devils golf course, turns out it’s not what i thought it would be! Not much at the runway which is partly why I chose it. Though I understand the runway is in poor condition at the moment which I would like to model when I’ve figured out how! Hope you enjoy. Cheers Karl.

What a coincidence! I was just there a few weeks ago. The airport sits right next to a golf course, where I had just played. (Who would have thought that there'd be a golf course in Death Valley). Being a pilot, I had to check out the field. Not much there. I'll download your scenery shortly.
