British Midland / Into the Blue Simulations:

British Midland was a UK-based carrier, founded in 1964; Midland operated under various guises over the years, finishing up operations as British Midland International or bmi in 2012. Throughout its history, the airline operated a whole host of different aircraft, including many British classics and at its peak operated some 30 aircraft, primarily from its London Heathrow and East Midlands bases. British Midland served destinations all over Europe and indeed further afield, at one point holding some 13% of all takeoff and landing slots out of London Heathrow. Sadly, bmi ceased trading in October of 2012 and the last vestige of the airline "Flybmi" was closed down just a couple of years ago in 2019.

I have commissioned this beautiful BD livery for the default Asobo Douglas DC-3, created masterfully by Jamespejam (a big thank you to him!). This airframe / registration was particularly special, as its prior owner was none other than Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery! Hopefully, a few of you will join me in getting Midland back in the skies once again!

    Enjoy! : )

Many thanks for the kind words, JPH!

A 2024 update has been worked on, it's just a question of me testing the livery, before I upload it (something I have been meaning to do for a very long time haha). I will try and upload the update at my earliest convenience.

Thanks again! All the best : )

    Hi 'Into the Blue'

Re the British Midland update, I mentioned that I preferred the shiny aluminium textures and you did tell me that you would sort out something so that we could have both the welcome update and the polished aluminium by saying this:

"If you really miss the older version, I can include those files with the download also (such that the user can choose)? Thanks for the feedback. All the best!"

I expect other things have got in the way buy I hope this gentle reminder may be taken in good faith....if it can't be done, I still think your livery is outstanding BTW. ;)

    Hello again Brian,

I've just updated the package again and it now includes both "realistic" and polished aluminium texture options.

Apologies for the delay - I simply have a lot of irons in the fire at the moment haha.

Hopefully, you can now enjoy the Midland livery as you see fit! : )

    Cheers and all the best

Hi Intotheblue...that would be great if you could do that then we can choose which we prefer and still get the benefit of the update....fab repaint...in my case, the DC3's at our local airport (Staverton) were in Derby Airways livery, a forerunner to British Midland but almost identical. Kind regards... Brian

I have had this excellent repaint for British Midland since you first posted it and I am so grateful...however, your latest 4k update shows the exterior skin as a matt silver and not polished aluminium as the original version...is this intentional?

    Hi Brian,

That was an intentional change. The new aluminum textures, though admittedly less beautiful, are more true to life (at least with regards to the Midland DC3's). If you really miss the older version, I can include those files with the download also (such that the user can choose)?

Thanks for the feedback. All the best!

    Hello Charlie,

I've just released an update to the DC3. GPU texturing should now be fixed (amongst other improvements).

    Cheers!
