Description
This folder contains a repaint for the Messerschmitt Bf-108 Taifun by Inibuilds. It shows Bf-108 KG+EM of the Sonderkommando Blaich, based in Lybia, January 1942. Theo Blaich was a German adventurer and plantation owner who had joined the Wehrmacht in 1939, arriving in his own Messerschmitt Bf 108 Taifun KG+EM. Blaich understood the importance of Fort Lamy in Chad as a way point in the overland transport and communication route from the west coast of Africa to the Nile, as well as an assembly point for Allied operations against Libya. Blaich proposed the capture of Fort Lamy to safeguard the southern border of Libya. When his suggestions were dismissed, he proposed that he should at least carry out a bombing raid. General Erwin Rommel approved the idea and forwarded it to Generalmajor Stefan Fröhlich the Fliegerführer Afrika. The date for the operation was set for 21 January 1942, to coincide with an Axis attack against the British at El Agheila. The Sonderkommando Blaich was equipped with one Heinkel He-111, as well as a Savioa-Marchetti SM-82 and Blaichs Bf-108 for support. The raid with the He-111 against the target located 1,250 mi (2,010 km) from the German-Italian bases in North Africa was a success but, on its return flight, the German plane ran out of fuel and had to make an emergency landing; both crew and plane were rescued a week later. More on this raid here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonderkommando_Blaich. I have included two versions, one with swastika on the tail, and one without (JK_Bf108_Blaich_PC). In germany you can get up to three years imprisonment if you show nazi symbols. One of the forbidden symbols is the swastika.
