    Description

    Background

    Coventry Airport for MSFS by MT Scenery Design is the most detailed scenery depiction of Coventry Airport (EGBE) to have ever been available for any simulator. Starting off as a lockdown project in November 2020, with the intention of placing down the main airport buildings to improve the overall look of the airfield, the project has completely transformed the airport and it’s surrounding area.

    This project stemmed from an in-development project that ceased for FSX back in 2015/16. Drew, the amazing collaborator for this project had been working on an airport scenery package for Coventry, which had never made it past the modelling stage. With the introduction of the new MSFS, and the great capabilities that came with its SDK, we have worked hard to put out this great scenery package for you all to enjoy. Countless hours have been spent in front of my computer screen since late 2020 perfecting this to be as realistic as possible!

    Installation

    To be honest, all I really need is for the MSFS 2020 version runway and taxiways to be aligned with the new MSFS 2024 base image. The rest of the airport works fine as far as I can see.

    I can see the effort put into this. Has a sentimental connection with my father in the airforce, flying over coventry in a Hunter when he lost control, lost over 10,000 ft but refused to eject. Saved the plane and I exist because he did. Long story short. Thank you.

    You are welcome. The longer story. Two RAF Hunter pilots entered into an unscantioned competion - a tail chase in the late 1950s. One pilot chasing the other to get a gun shot. My dad was the chaser, the other pilot went vertical, and the chase became a vertical scissor fight over the city of Coventry. At 20,000 ft they both hit the limit of lift. My dad got a gun shot solution but stalled and entered an inverted flat spin immediatley after. His Hunter was spinning out of control upside down and the general rule for that situation was simple. If the Hunter went into an inverted spin and went below 10,000 ft, you must eject. Dad knew he had screwed up and fought the spin to 7000 ft and recovered. Both pilots were severely reprimanded, but dad recovered the plane and stopped a terrible civilian disaster. Boys will be boys. Macho el macho. He went on to be a civilan 747 flight instructor with Air New Zealand and taught me to fly.

    Coventry Airport, handcrafted by MT Scenery Design. The most detailed representation of the airport in any simulator. Every effort has been made to create the most lifelike scenery package possible. With on-site access to the airfield, I have been able to take to the centimetre accurate measurements for objects and buildings, along with photoreal textures for many of the airport buildings! This scenery package truly is a labour of love, as it is my local airport, and where I fly light aircraft from!

    Version History

    It's been nearly a year but we have an update: - modellib.bgl renamed (avoids conflict with other sceneries and CTDs.) - Street lighting poles added on Siskin Industrial Estate and Tollbar Island Junction/A46. - Additional fencing added around the airport. - Vegetation added around the perimeter to fill out areas that were previously missing it. - Localiser Antenna (non-functional) on either end of the runway replaced with basic, but more life-like model. There are a few placeholder objects present in the scenery currently, which are being worked on and will be included in a future release. If you have any suggestions on what I should add in, please feel free to message me.
