Description
This flight is far more than your typical bush trip. It recreates the first London to Australia flight made in 1919--a distance of more than 14,000 miles. It is considered one of the greatest achievements in aviation history.
The team flew a Vickers Vimy, piloted by Ross Smith, with his brother Keith Smith as co-pilot and navigator, and Jim Bennett and Wally Shiers as mechanics. That original flight took nearly a month.

Some notes on this bush trip:
- The trip is long. 14,000 miles long. It will take many days to complete.
- The adventure is split into four different bush trips: (1) London to Cairo, (2) Cairo to Calcutta, (3) Calcutta to Singapore, and (4) Singapore to Adelaide. They will show up under Activities/Custom Content. Note that FS2020 doesn't always put them in numerical order.
- The main download file contains the four bushtrips, plus a folder of PDFs with historic photos and a more detailed description of the historical flight. I strongly encourage you to read the PDF as you fly along.
- There is a secondary, optional download file containing a Flightbook, automatically created by BushTripInjector. It describes the specific waypoints used during the flight.
- For the most part, the descriptions of each leg should be clear enough for you to find the next waypoint. There are a few legs that are intentionally difficult to navigate, such as a 260 mile leg over much of France, where the Vimy was flying in between cloud layers and could only navigate with dead reckoning for several hours. With clear skies, you will have a much easier time.
- The default aircraft for the trip is a Savage Cub, so it has similar navigation abilities to the Vimy: a compass, an air speed indicator, an inclinometer, and a clock. The Cub has a slightly higher cruising speed, a higher operational ceiling, but a shorter range. Unlike the Vimy, the Cub has the luxury of an enclosed cockpit. See below for details about how to change the default aircraft.
- Because of the shorter range, you will need to stop and refuel on some of the longer legs of the bush trip. If you land at an airfield where fuel is available, the "fuel" toolbar icon will appear for you to add fuel. Alternatively, you can assign a button or keystroke to the "Repair and Refuel" action which you can use at any time.
- A few airstrips were created specifically for this bush trip, including the starting location at Brooklands near London (where the Vimy was outfitted for the trip), and the first destination at Hounslow Heath (the official start of the race). All of the custom airstrips made for this bush trip have runway lights, to try to make them easier to locate. The navigation log also offers guidance for how to find them.
- The bush trip and accompanying documents are machine translated into several languages.
- Weather defaults to clear skies, but can be changed for a more challenging adventure.
Hints:
- Use maps to give yourself a sense of where you are going and what you are looking for. The navigation log has screenshots at most waypoints to help you find your way.
- Think like a 1919 pilot with limited navigation aids. Plan to follow rivers, roads, and railroads--but make sure you are following the correct one. Fly up valleys and over mountain passes, rather than take direct routes.
- If you get lost, there are plenty of opportunities to find your way again. If you are trying to find a city on a coastline, turn and find the coast first, and then look for the city.
- Sometimes, the simulator doesn't reset the time of day when you begin a new leg. This will cause you to run out of daylight on some legs. After you complete a leg, if you "Return to Main Menu" (instead of "Continue"), the next leg will start in the morning.

EHHL refers to Hounslow Heath, which is a historic airport that I've created specifically for this bush trip.
The runway lights are in place, but the sim has chosen to put trees in the middle of the runway.
Let me see if there's something I can do to fix this, but it is new behavior in the sim that's unexpected.
Update: I have released version 1.6.1 to address this issue.
None of the other custom airports in this trip seem to be affected.

Which version of the bush trip are you using?
Yes, the ICAO identifiers changed for Kalijati and Haliwen. I believe I fixed those in version 1.2.1, released May of 2023.
If you aren't using version 1.5 or later of the bush trip, I would recommend you download it and give it a try.

All of my bush trips have the ".pln" flightplan included. (Maybe all bush trips do.) Look in, for example, MSFS.Packages\Community\bhpowell-singapore-adelaide\Missions\bhpowell\BushTrip\bhpowell-singapore-adelaide\bhpowell-singapore-adelaide.PLN

Hi, Swissair67. I have heard no other reports of this.
I do not have a VR headset to test with.
Let's start with some obvious questions...
* Does it crash for you without VR?
* Have you disabled all other add-ons?
* What graphics card and VR headset do you have?

I am currently on the fourth trip and have reached as far as Sydney (Kingsford Smith Intl Airport. YSSY), however the flight plan ends at that point and there are no waypoints showing for flying the last three or four legs.
It would be an enormous shame to not complete the trip. Just want to get to Adelaide. Any help greatly apprecited.

Hmm, I'll need to check on this. I'll report back if I figure something out.
I just checked the files I uploaded. I believe all the content is there to get you all the way to Adelaide.
Can you confirm a few things?
* Are you using the latest 1.5.0 version of the bush trip?
* Do you have any custom scenery installed (specifically for Australia)? If so, can you try removing it temporarily to see if that changes things?
* Do you have the latest version of the simulator and the world update that includes Australia?
* Trip 4 (Singapore to Adelaide) should have 21 legs. Is that what you see? Leg 17 should take you from the main Sydney airport to the Richmond Military Base. If you see fewer than 21 legs, what's the last you see in the bush trip starting menu (where you choose the legs)?

Finally I used Mission Changer to go back to the TMB930 and when I reran from YSSY there were no waypoints after Richmoind (Military), so it looks like itis an issue with the 930.
So glad that I managed to finish the trip - seen parts of the world I never imagined I ever would. Thank you once again.

Hi, first of all this is a great bush trip and I am really enjoying myself. However is there any way to save your current progress during a particular leg? Since most legs take upwards of 4 hours, I would like to save mid flight and continue an other time. I tried landing at a random airport in the hopes that MSFS would save this, but sadly it didn't.

My understanding is that MSFS automatically saves your progress in the cloud at each waypoint. So if you crash, for example, it should resume from the last waypoint you passed. However, I sometimes see it revert back to the beginning of the current leg--so I guess sometimes it doesn't work.
To be clear, I don't think there's any way for a user (or the bush trip) to control how MSFS saves to the cloud, and I don't know if there's a trick to getting it to work.
If you look at the changelog for this trip, you'll notice I've slowly been updating this trip to improve the NavLog descriptions. Along the way, I've also been adding a few more waypoints--especially in the long straight stretches where it's nice to know that you're still on the right path. If the MSFS save mechanism works, that should prevent the amount of time you have to backtrack when you have to quit the bush trip in the middle of a flight.
I'm coming out with an update (hopefully today) that is focused on improvements to the Australia sections of the flight, but will be doing the same for other sections of the trip as well over time.

The "loading" image for this segment has the left half of the image chopped off. Ver 1.6.0 at least. Cannot say for older releases. Disappointing as I dove back in to fly the Indonesia section before we vacation there this fall and a visual image of the route would be very nice.
Other minor: I spawned under an A380 in Changi. An FS update has put a row of these beasts where you have parked it. I *am* now flying the 930 (after taking the Cub all the way to Calcutta) so backing out was no issue, but could well be for others.
Flying towards KL the nav page says you fly over the coastal "Planes".
Still the most fun I've had with a flight simulator - very well done! Thanks.
