    EGTY Strathaven Airfield

    Version 1.1

    All elements of the project have been re-positioned to match the latest version of Bing Maps being used in MSFS2020.

    Runways,  taxiways and apron areas have been re-textured to produce closer cropped grass.

    Airfield buildings have been updated.

    Replacement perimter fencing.

    Animated spectators added.

    Nearby farm and adjacent cottages have custom buildings.

    Farm workers are busy with moving vehicles in the surrounding fields 

     

    EGTY Strathaven Airfield

    This is a upgrading of the existing default airfield.

    The airfield sits high in the rural countryside of Lanarkshire,  Scotland around 25 miles south of Glasgow.

    The airfield layout includes one main grass runway 530 m in length.  There is ample aircraft parking and available hangarage.  No fuel is available.

    The default buildings have been replaced by custom made models.  Static light aircraft and microlights are placed around and a perimeter fence has been added.

    The airfield is rather unique in that it has a residence built on the airfield and quite close to the main runway.  The house really came to prominense when it was featured in the UK TV program 'Grand Designs'.  A model of the house is included in this package.

    A prominent feature nearby is Scotland's largest windfarm,  namely Whitelees.

    The package file should be unzipped into MSFS2020 Community Folder.

    Strathaven is the third oldest operational airfield on the west of Scotland mainland - the other two being Prestwick and Glasgow Airports

    It was founded by The Scottish Flying Club in the early 1960s after a decade of searching for a site to replace their former base at Glasgow's Renfrew Airport.

    After some changes in ownership the airfield is now back in the hands of the revived Scottish Flying Club - now trading as a not-for-profit company called Strathaven Airfield Ltd - and is being completely refurbished.  The club specialises in flying lessons for both light aircraft and microlights.

    Love your version of Strathaven airfield, I kept my aircraft there for over 10 years,
    Only thing missing from update is the windsock

    Iain, as you continue to work with MSFS, could you perhaps turn your attention to Wick at some point? One of my most-loved runs in your old scenery was Inverness to Wick, and often thence to the Islands. With the BlackBox Islander, and the Aerosoft Twin Otter, Wick might be a nice addition to the sim again.
