    MSFS Addons Linker 2020/2024 - Image 1

    Description

    Hello,

Since version 0.22.x AL now supports both MSFS2020 and MSFS 2024

    • to use it with MSFS2020 launch the MSFS_AddonsLinker.exe file
    • to use it with MSFS2024 launch the MSFS_AddonsLinker_2024.exe file

Note : new versions may introduce new features or important changes, please always check the changelog entries when installing a new version.

The first thing you'll probably do when trying this tool for the first time is move your currently installed addons outside of your 'real community folder' to put them in your new 'custom addon folder'. To avoid problems, please try first with a single addon only to make sure everything works fine for you.It would be sad if you move 200GB and then you notice it does not work for you. Files placed directly in the new folder should always work but, for some users (not the majority) the files moved might get encrypted if you have the MS-Store version so it's worth checking before moving too many files. Thank you.

Another little addons manager. Made to match my own needs and just sharing with the community. The main features are :

    • organize your addons freely in folders and subfolders with no limitations
    • quick activation/deactivation of addons without moving the files on the disk
    • presets management for global activations
    • map screen for addons localisation and activation
    • liveries browser
    • documentation browser
    • content.xml editor (msfs2024 only, will let you disable/enable base content 'streamedpackages' if needed)
    • airport icao scanning and duplicates finder
    • several other utilities to check addons (modellib / materiallib / ...)
    • ability to connect to simulator and visit addons with aicraft teleporting (via the map screen)
    • many more little options here and there ....

    Installation :
    - just extract all the files and drop them in a folder of your choice and run the EXE file

    basic usage :
    - create a folder where you will put your addons, add your addons in there instead of putting them in the community folder, you can create as many subfolder as you want to organize your files efficiently
    - launch the application, in the options screen set your 'addon folder' and your 'community folder'
    - just click on the checkbox to activate/deactivate addons
    - rest should be fairly easy to understand. There are several Youtube videos available that can help, please check them out.

big thanks to everyone who helped me with feedback, tests and ideas !

    Thank you

    Hiya, random bug.

If the program is open after a little time it becomes unresponsive. An example is the search bar doesn't allow text to be entered.
    How do I troubleshoot this?

Hello, difficult to say. Is it when refreshing the view ? Like if it was very slow and so the UI is blocked (can maybe happen if you have some non-addon folder like GSX in the folder monitored by AL, in that case you can try to check the option 'hider folder without addons' in the options screen 'advanced' tab) ... Check if you can maybe reproduce it with a specific pattern of actions. Unfortunately i don't know much more, it's just a light windows app and i see no reason why it would freeze randomly. Let me know if you have some more infos, thank you.

Hello bad2000, what is it in 2024 that if modellib rename is applied i loose buildings and other stuff in some addon airports? Doesnt the layout json file gets updated? i have a few airports from iniB that got affected and need to reinstall them afterwards. Never had this in 2020. Cheers. Greetings.

Hello, sorry for the trouble. Modellib renamer probably isn't much needed anymore. It was important 4-5 years ago but nowadays i guess most addons are now doing it correctly. That being said, obviously, if you get an issue after using it it's not good. Are you using the very latest version ? The last one doesn't apply changes to native 2024 addons because of of some file structure changes with 2024 addons (not sure if that's your issue). If you have already the last version, please let me know an example of addon with which you had the issue so i can try on my end. Thank you.

Many times I have no need to make changes to my standard configuration profile in AL. So as soon as this app launches, I click the green launch sim button to start the sim with the fast launch option.

Is it possible, if there isn't already some other way, to add a parameter to the AL Windows command prompt that would bypass the AL UI and automatically execute the sim launch sequence?

One windows icon could open the native AL app as normal and a second icon with the modified command prompt link would start the sim launch. Or maybe a second stripped down version of the AL app could do this. I guess that would depend on how modular your app was written. Just my two cents.

Regardless, love the app. Thank you.

Hello and thank you for the feedback, appreciated. I think this was requested before and implemented (can't test at the moment). Try adding the keyword 'startsim' or 'startsimandquit' and it should do what you want if i understood correctly. So the shortcut would look like this --> .....linker.exe startsimandquit

Hi, thanks for the great add on. I have been using it for many years in MSFS 2020. I finally got MSFS 2024 and I'm planning to still fly on both simulators. My question is: can I use the latest version for both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 or do I need to install different versions of the addon linker for both simulators? Thanks!

Hello and thank you for the feedback ! The lastest version AL contains 2 EXE ('MSFS_AddonsLinker.exe' and 'MSFS_AddonsLinker_2024.exe'). For 2020 just keep using the one you are using right now, and for 2024 launch the '2024' EXE, you will need to configure your 2024 folders on the first start (you can share the same folders with the 2020 version for your source addons if they are compatible) and everything should be ok. So make sure you have the latest version of AL and create 2 different shortcuts based on the right EXE (one for 2020 and one for 2024).

I have a stupid issue I have been dealing with for probably a year now and finally decided to take few minutes to figure out. Whenever I launch the program in the search box "phoe" is already filled in. I must have been searching for Phoenix at some point. This causes everything to be filtered down as soon as the program opens. Its not a huge deal to hit the x and to clear the search to unfilter everything but considering this search has persisted through app updates I'm curious where its store and how I can clear it. I checked the .ini in the program data folder but don't see anything in there that would help.

Hello, it's because you saved the layout (colunns position and size) when the fliter 'phoe' was active. The filter is also part of the layout so it's restored everytime you start the tool. Just remove the filter and use the right click menu option 'save columns order/size', it will update the layout without the filter and next time you start the tool it should be ok.

    That did it, thanks alot.

Would really love if there was also an option to control EXE.xml modules disabled/enabled state tied to presets

Hello, currently AL doesn't mess the EXE.xml file but i'll write that down as a possible idea. Thank you.

I have used this great product since FS20 and now finally in FS24 on a different setup. It has always shown the main two panels side by side. Opened it a second time now after install and the two panels are stacked. I run this on a 3840x2160 display. There should be ample room for side by side. Is there a setting I am missing?

Also the options panel shows too big and stretches over into another stacked monitor. Windows scaling, usually the windows recommended 300%, fixed this issue but not the panel positioning.

Hello, please check the options screen, there is an option named 'horizontal mode', if i understand correctly what you are describing, it seems like you have that enabled (so the panel are not side by side, but stacked one over the other). Please check that and if it's not your issue, send me a screenshot showing what you see and it will hopefully help me understand better, thank you.

    Version History

Hello, a very small update but still recommended to all users. [NEW] Optional GSX folder scanning. If enabled (options screen), the column 'Gsx Profile' will show 'Yes' for addons for which you have a GSX profile installed. For this to work you need to use the AL ICAO scanner so that it will then match the ICAO found by AL with the GSX .ini file. Due to the way GSX works, there are some limitations and, to my knowledge, it's not possible to identify exactly if an INI file matches with a specific addon because this is done by GSX only when inside the sim. So with AL, you will just get the information if a GSX profile matches a specific ICAO and, if you have 2 addons for the same ICAO, both will display the value 'Yes'. If you have any idea on how this can be improved let me know, i don't have GSX so my knowledge is limited. As a reminder, you can save the column size/position by using the right click menu 'save columns order/size'. [NEW] New column and filter available on the map screen to show only enabled addons. [FIX] Fixed an issue with the modellib checker if used with native 2024 addons. [FIX] Fixed an issue with the flightplan loading on the map [FIX] Several other minor fixes [REMOVED] Removed the Bing maps because they have been discontinued by Microsoft. Unfortunately, its successor 'Azure map', which technically could be implemented fairly easily inside AL, is now a lot harder to access (credit card and phone number required). It will also probably start charging you if you go over the monthly free limit because they are not rich enough. So well, not really suited for AL :(.. Investigating for possible alternatives, for now you'll have to use the OpenStreetMap provider (or the very 'simple' map if you just need basic localisation). Sorry for that but out of my control. Thank you.
