Charilaos Trikoupis Bridge - Greece - Patras City - Image 1

    Description

Short Description: The scenery contains the bridge and some of the surrounding areas, such as the castles from both sides. Nightlights are handcrafted as well for scenic flights over the area even at night. (BONUS: Ferries , that can't move unfortunately :(  )

INFO: This is very detailed photorealistic scenery for the Rio-Antirio also known as Charilaos Trikoupis bridge and the surrounding areas(tollbooths, castles of Rio and Antirio , some urban areas & a small part of the highway intersection). Nightlights are handcrafted for the bridge and the castles as well. The original scenery was very poor and lacking detail with a flat bridge between the landmasses. In this scenery you can even see the ferries in 3d on each side of the bridge.

    ***** FINDING THE BRIDGE :
    1. Use the following coordinates in the "search airport bar" 38.321180, 21.774440 , or
    2. Start from LGRX Araxos Airport and fly east towards the city of Patras.

Let me know if you have any problems or if you can propose corrections for the model itself.

    - To INSTALL: Drag "nikprist-rioantirio2" folder from the .zip to the "Community" folder of the game and you are set to go! :)

    - Some TRIVIA for the bridge itself : Charilaos Trikoupis Bridge, is one of the world's longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges and longest of the fully suspended type. It crosses the Gulf of Corinth near Patras, linking the town of Rio on the Peloponnese peninsula to Antirrio on mainland Greece by road. It opened one day before the Athens 2004 Summer Olympics, on 12 August 2004, and was used to transport the Olympic Flame.
The 2,380-metre-long (7,808 ft) bridge (approximately 1.8 miles) dramatically improves access to and from the Peloponnese, which could previously be reached only by ferry or via the isthmus of Corinth in the east. Its width is 28 m (92 ft)—it has two vehicle lanes per direction, an emergency lane and a pedestrian walkway. Its five-span four-pylon cable-stayed portion of length 2,252 m (7,388 ft) is the world's third longest cable-stayed deck; only the decks of the Jiaxing-Shaoxing Sea Bridge in Shaoxing, China and the Millau Viaduct in southern France are longer at 2,680 m (8,793 ft) and 2,460 m (8,071 ft), respectively. However, as the former has a shorter length of main span (the length of the main span is the most common way to rank cable-stayed bridges, as the size of the main span does often correlate with the height of the towers, and the engineering complexity involved in designing and constructing the bridge) and as the latter is also supported by bearings at the pylons apart from cable stays, the Rio–Antirrio Bridge deck might be considered the longest cable-stayed "suspended" deck in the world.
This bridge is widely considered to be an engineering masterpiece, owing to several solutions applied to span the difficult site. These difficulties include deep water, insecure materials for foundations, seismic activity, the probability of tsunamis, and the expansion of the Gulf of Corinth due to plate tectonics.*

Wirklich sehr schön geworden. Schade das die Autos unter der Brücke auf dem Wasser fahren. Dennoch eine Bereicherung für die Scenerie rund um Patras.

@Ace Thank you so much! Appreciate your comment and ideas! There are simply so many places in Greece and elsewhere that need some kind of photorealistic/photogrammetric representation. Meteora - Kalampaka is one of them of course, even if it needs a new 3d model. I have some photogrammetry data for the rocks as well. I'll upload it here as soon as possible, if the result is of high quality. Stay tuned! So much more to come!

Absolutely beautiful, thank you! I'm sure you already have lots of ideas for other places to model, but if I can just throw one more into the mix: It would be amazing to have a more accurate representation of Meteora in the game. The default scenery is quite disappointing sadly. Either way, thanks a lot for your amazing work!
