Gloucestershire Airport (EGBJ) is one of the UK's busiest general aviation hubs, situated just south of Cheltenham and serving a wide range of private, business, and training flights. Home to operators such as Jet Aviation and a number of flight schools, it occupies an important place in the British GA landscape. Like many regional airports, it periodically undergoes changes to its infrastructure — and in the summer of 2026, EGBJ is set to receive updated runway designations, a change that reflects magnetic variation drift over time and ensures charts and procedures remain aligned with real-world navigation standards. Developer FlightSimFlyer has responded promptly to these changes with a new 🔗 scenery release on Flightsim.to, bringing EGBJ up to date for both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024.

The centerpiece of this update is the runway redesignation, with the main paved runways now reflecting their 2026 identifiers of 08/26 and 03/21. Taxiway signage has been updated throughout to match, and holds and taxiway labelling have been cross-referenced against June 2026 charts to ensure procedural accuracy. The former 18/36 runway has been converted into taxiways D and G, consistent with real-world plans, while the old grass runway 04R/22L has been removed from active use. A notable terrain detail is the steep bank at the end of runway 26, which has been modelled to reflect the real-world topography at that end of the field.

On the visual side, the add-on makes deliberate use of default simulator objects supplemented by custom textures for taxiway paintwork. Runway and taxiway lighting has been modelled as closely as the AIP allows, and the developer is transparent about the limitations of the default lighting system — for example, ILS critical sections currently use plain taxiway lights rather than the correct lamp type. The scenery was built using the MSFS 2020 SDK and is confirmed to work in MSFS 2024 as well.

If you fly in and around the English West Country — whether in a GA single, a turboprop, or a light business jet — EGBJ Gloucester is worth adding to your rotation, and this update ensures the airport reflects real-world changes that are just around the corner. As this is a freeware release, if you find the scenery useful, consider leaving a donation to FlightSimFlyer via the Flightsim.to page to support their continued work on the airport.
