🛫 Live Simulator Awareness
Checklist Reader connects directly to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 through the native SimConnect API.
During the flight, your copilot monitors live aircraft and simulator data, including:
- Aircraft configuration
- Engine and electrical parameters
- Fuel and temperatures
- Flight phase and aircraft state
- Route, altitude and waypoint progress
- SimBrief flight plans and imported PLN routes
- Potential hazards and configuration problems
“Possible icing conditions detected. Consider enabling pitot heat.”
You can ask questions at any time:
“What is our altitude?”
“How much fuel do we have?”
“What is our current airspeed?”
“When will we reach the next waypoint?”
Supported simulator functions can also be controlled by voice, allowing commands such as:
“Gear up.”

🗺️ Flight Planning, Monitoring and Recording
Load your current SimBrief flight plan or import an MSFS PLN route. Checklist Reader follows your progress, announces upcoming waypoints and can warn about route, altitude or configuration deviations.
The integrated moving map displays your planned route, current position, airports, navigation data, points of interest and recorded track.
Your complete flight path can be recorded and later reviewed or exported for use with applications such as Google Maps and Google Earth, including a 3D replay of your flight.
🌍 Guided Tours
Turn a free flight or planned route into a spoken sightseeing experience.
Checklist Reader can detect nearby landmarks, tell you where to look and narrate their history while displaying points of interest on the moving map.
Ready-made tours are included, and you can create your own tours for any region or route.

Checklist Reader includes an open, optional HTTP and JSON integration interface for external tools and cockpit hardware.
It provides:

Some antivirus scanners may incorrectly flag the application because of its voice-recognition, simulator-integration and local HTTP-interface features.
Checklist Reader contains no telemetry or user tracking. Its core functionality works locally and offline. Network communication occurs only when you explicitly use or enable features such as SimBrief, data downloads, local-network access, external integrations or configured webhooks.

Ever wondered what it's like to fly an entire IFR flight with a voice-controlled checklist assistant?

First, I started with MS TTS. They ran fine. Midflight on second day (23rd), I tested the SLT voice and it ran fine for a moment as well.
I was in a a heavy photogrammetry area at that moment and my PC struggled. I don't know if that is related, but CR shut down, on its own, multiple times. You guessed right about the virtual output devices. I do have an virtual output device (Voicemeeter), because I can't capture the app's audio with OBS studio separately.
These pictures are from 14.14's window. They showed lag even with MS' voices. Lost the logs during update. I'm posting these if they are any use.

A couple of notes from my flights on 15.3.
1. Could systems scan behaviour be improved with conditions? For example, I was on approach with gear down and the scan was started - it felt wrong.
2 I've enabled the altitude callouts. Likewise, on approach, descending I've heard the "Descending though 800 for 1000" callout. 1000' was set into altitude window.

Some of the issues you mentioned may already have been addressed by my recent changes, but I'll still go through all of your findings carefully to see if there are any remaining improvements I can make. In particular, I'll review the reported error conditions, improve logging around unexpected shutdowns where necessary, and check whether the TTS/SimConnect handling and a few background processes can be made even more robust.
In the meantime, the latest development builds already include a few related improvements. SimConnect now suppresses repeated log spam from unsupported aircraft-specific SimVars by detecting them once per aircraft and skipping them on subsequent polling cycles, resulting in cleaner logs and slightly improved polling performance. I also completed a feasibility study for routing TTS to non-default audio devices (such as Voicemeeter or secondary headsets), and the architectural groundwork has been documented for potential implementation in a future release.
Thanks again for the thorough analysis—it really helps make the Reader more reliable.

SLT kept crashing randomly. Total slowdown at 9:01. I noticed the Simconnect window to be super sluggish/non-responsive for lot of the time.
Switched to MS at 9:37 and it didn't crash.
The timestamps may need a +3 correction.
Also turned off Bushtalk radio at sometime after that, could Simconnect bus get oversaturated?

Initially with VM outout.
Even during initially loading the checklist sections, menu loading was slow.
Focusing particularly on before engine start checks, challenges were sluggish.

"Grammar: ..." section stays visible for long time on the window.
Afer line 535, the computer was restarted without any non-CR simconnect stuff running. Output device was set to physical.
The button "checked" worked better, in general.

I'm currently making a lot of modifications because I'm implementing the additional communication channel via webhook.
Besides, I'm already in the process of debugging the modifications for better performance anyway. Yes, that involves a lot of different modifications, integrations, and rework all at once.

Tried a simple flight with close to default settings. Only changed TTS to another MS', including rate and volume. And "check" keybinding.
It feels like this build is slower.
The simconnect window gets frozen for a long time when the app does it's thing. At some point of this pattern work I switched simconnect off and restarted, but it didn't really matter.

The PTT goes though the Gremlin.
Forgot to record CR as the output was on desktop, which doesn't normally appear on the stream. So the last YT link was unnecessary.
The route monitor and stuff like that are normally off. They should be gone whilst Simconnect is disabled?

Ich arbeite gerne und viel mit dem Programm, wobei ich mir die json Dateien für die Checklisten selbst erstelle und die Befehle ausschließlich mit Tastenklick aufrufe. Gibt es eine Möglichkeit, wenn der aufgerufene Befehl vorgelesen wird, diesen während der Sprachausgabe zu stoppen und zum nächsten Befehl weiter zu springen? Oder generell per Tastenklick Befehle zu überspringen, ohne dass die Vorherigen aufgerufen werden? Ich habe dazu in den Settings und den Hotkeys nichts gefunden, mit Hotkey STRG-ALT-V klappt es bei mir nicht.
