Description
MSFS Autosave is a simple application designed to save your flights at specific intervals.
I have written this application because I have not been able to find apps that do this as freeware so far. Some have promised, none have delivered.
This should be an MSFS native feature but heh. The only real other option is FSUIPC7 but the autosave is a payware option.
Enjoy!
PS: If you enjoy this and have any feature suggestions, or just want to thank me, you can BuyMeACoffee.
Key Features:
- Autosave Functionality: Automatically saves flight progress at specified intervals, ensuring progress is preserved in case of unexpected interruptions.
- Connects via SimConnect. No FSUIPC needed.
- Default Save Directory Handling: Dynamically determines the optimal save directory by depending on the user installation (MS Store versus Steam).
- Autosave Statistics: Tracks and displays autosave activities in real-time, including the number of autosaves performed during the session.
- Advanced Options: Offers additional functionalities such as deleting previous autosaves and managing panel states for specific aircraft models like PMDG and Aerosoft CRJ, something that not even FSUIPC does :)
Important Mentions:
- it has been tested with and works well with PMDG 73 and 77, Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, Horizon LVFR planes, Headwind A339, Horizon & Kuro 787's, all generic planes (sim default, Carenado, etc.)
- It does NOT work with Fenix A320. (it works but the plane does not save public panel states hence the autosave is useless).
- PMDG autosaves recommended every 5+ minutes due to panels being saved each time taking a while (micros stutters). This happens due to plane not sim or software.
- Loading flights in MSFS 2024: PLEASE DO IT VIA THE APPLICATION - LOAD FLIGHT INTO SIM BUTTON.
- RECOMMENDATION: users of 2020 can keep using the version 1.4.2 as there is no real change to the app for them and that is a bit faster since it does not ever check for 2024 presence.
Changelog v1.1:
- (NEW) Added a SAVE NOW button - this works both independently from the autosave cycle and with it. When no autosave running, it just saves each time you press the button. When autosave running, it saves instantly and then resets the timer of your autosave cycle.
- (NEW) Added a timer to the GUI showing how long till next autosave.
- (NEW) Added advanced option to have the app auto-start with MSFS - "Toggle Starting with Sim" - please read instructions that pop up when clicking the button to ensure all worked well.
Changelog v1.2:
- (NEW) Added an option to not save a certain altitude to avoid freezes on final - DEFAULT = 5000ft AGL ; change to 0 if you want to always save. NB: THIS DOES NOT IMPACT THE SAVE NOW BUTTON - you can still SAVE NOW at any point.
- (NEW) Added button MIN TO TRAY - Once enabled, you can click this button and app will minimize to the tray in Windows. To pull it back up, find the little disk icon, right click and Open.
- (FIXED) - CRJ panel deletion function was over reaching and deleting other save files. Now fixed to delete autosaved ones made by the program only.
- (UPDATE) - The SAVE NOW button is no longer active when not connected to the sim to avoid giving the impression that it can save without connection.
Changelog v1.3:
- (NEW) Added button to open the PMDG 777F panelstate folder. (autosaving already worked just fine)
- (NEW) Added functionality to delete 777F panels when deleting PMDG saved panels
- (NEW) The app now has a favicon - why not? :)
- (FIXED) - fixed an issue where PMDG panel deletion would not work if you have FS2Crew installed. Had to do with pathfinding and how FS2C chose to name their appdata folders for the PMDG products.
- (UPDATE) There is now consistency in messaging where the terms "attempt" and "autosave" would interchange
Changelog v1.4:
- (NEW) Added button to open the PMDG 777ER and 777L panelstate folder. (autosaving already worked just fine)
- (NEW) Added functionality to delete 777ER and 777L panels when deleting PMDG saved panels
- (FIXED) Fixed issue some users had with starting with the sim feature. That should be resolved now. Let me know.
Changelog v2.0:
- (NEW) Support for MSFS 2024
- (NEW) Automatic version detection on connection.
- (NEW) Version-specific save folder detection. The app automatically locates the correct LocalState directory for the connected simulator
- (NEW) Simulator Selection Dialog for all deletion and folder-opening functions. When you click to delete PMDG states, Aerosoft CRJ states, or MSFS autosaves, you are now prompted to choose whether to perform the action for MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024. This works even when not connected to a simulator. Also applies to Toggling Start with Sim.
- (FIXED) Error handling for when altitude data cannot be retrieved. The countdown timer now correctly adjusts and a 10-second wait is triggered.
Changelog v2.1:
- (NEW) Added "Load Flight Into Sim" button to browse and load saved flights directly into simulator - works in both sims. Created to avoid MSFS24 workarounds.
Changelog v2.2:
- Slight changes to the Load Flight feature to make sure MSFS 24 loads in-flight rather than at gate
- Slight GUI flow changes.
Changelog v2.3:
- (FIXED) Fixed Issue with Flight Loading in MSFS that makes the aircraft controls unresponsive.
NOTE: this should make the app fully usable with 2024 but is still highly dependable on the plane you use reporting its data to the SDK.
Changelog v2.4:
- (UPDATE)
Enhanced the delete autosaves feature to include files not saved to default save folder.
- (FIXED) Improved folder path handling and detection to work with Steam versions of MSFS.
-
This should fix the PMDG folder finding along with the XML start-up for Steam users.
-
WIP:
- A settings file to save preferences for default time, altitude and save folders.

Any idea how to fix this?
Update: I have downloaded the file you have provided, the error is gone and the program launches, will give another update when I have tested it in the sim and change the review accordingly. thanks for the swift reply!
Update: Program now launches. but when I try to connect to the sim a new error occurs, I see another person has more or less the same error.
Update: The developer have made quick work of sorting out the issues I have been having. The app does what it says on the tin, and if there is something I love more then well labeled tins, its well supported, well labeled tins. 10/10 for amazing support! changing my score.

Never at the spot of the last autosave.
Is there maybe a special order which is recommened i.e. spawn at ground, load panel state and only then load autosave?

For 2020, this should work directly from the menu. It's much friendlier with autosaves.
