DC-3 knots airspeed indicator and placards - Image 1

    Description

Texture replacement to the modify airspeed indicator in the default DC-3 (from the 40th Anniversary update) to knots.  Also changes two placards on the panel to have some helpful information on limitations and power settings.

To install: drag-and-drop the "zzzz-dc3-knots-asi-placards" folder to your Community folder.

This mod should get priority over other mods that change the same texture files, so just be aware that it will interfere with other custom panel textures.  (The newest version of the Duckworks mod includes a new main panel texture...this mod will overwrite that beacuse the modified placards are on the main panel texture.  If you don't want the placards but want to keep the knots airspeed gauge, delete the two files named "PANELSA_ALB" in this mod and update the layout.json file.)

Note: I'm not sure exactly what it is about the DC-3/C-47 (obviously it was produced in tremendous numbers and with many modifications), but different online sources will quote very different airspeed limitations.  It doesn't seem like there's one official AFM for this aircraft.  It's actually bizarre because I've never encountered another aircraft where there was so much disagreement about something as basic as flap and gear speeds.  Anyway, my point is: the limits I've chosen to depict are the numbers that seem the most practical and have the most references (that I've found).  I believe these limits should work for the stock DC-3 that Aeroplane Heaven modelled.  Maybe it's because the DC-3 does not actually belong to the modern era, it just outlived all expectations... Anyway, if anyone can explain why there are so many different and contradictory versions of the flight manual, please write me in the comments.

Hello. Tell me, will it work in 2024?

I heard for some it does, but I did not find out how! ?? I read that you have to copy some files into the MSFS2024 Duckworks enhancement, but no details... HELP wanted!!

    That's a great mod thanks !
However, there is a small issue when using the Duckworks mod in conjunction with yours, there is some engines instruments needles that are not lighted at night when both mod are used together (oil, cyl, carb), with only the Duckworks installed there is no issue.
Do you think you could update your mod to make it fully compatible when used with Duckworks ?

Are you 100% sure it has to do with Duckworks? Like, have you tried without Duckworks? Another possibility is that MS or AeroplaneHeaven made model changes during a recent update. Please help me out so I don't have to spend a ton of time chasing that down. :)

Yes, just double checked it. Also there is a post from someone else on Discord, in the Duckworks channel, who is reporting the same issue.
It's not a huge issue and it doesn't stop from using your mod. Just my 2 cents to make your mod perfect... ;-)

Thank you! Sorry for the delay. I would like to fix this, I just haven't been able to spend time on flightsim stuff lately. Hopefully soon.

As for the different units that was due to the army using mph, the navy using knots and other organizations using whatever they wanted. In the early days there was no standardization so they used what was familiar to them. That is my understanding.

Could you create something similar to this which adds standard rate marks to the turn coordinator?

It would be pretty hard for me to make that accurate. For the airspeed, it was simply a matter of converting MPH to knots, and then checking the calibration of my markings against the hud in game. But for the turn coordinator, it would be trial-and-error, checking against timed turns at constant bank. Too much trouble for me, sorry.

Hi - this is very useful. Please can you also change the clock to a simple hh:mm:ss format? You see that the current clock is cryptic to say the least in the DC3.

That would be a model modification, not a texture mod. Not something I can do.

    comes with GPS ?

No, but it works with the modern cockpit that is provided. There is a free add-on for the DC-3 to download from the marketplace that adds this.
