    Description

    Blue Grass Airport is a public, regional airport in Lexington, KY.  In addition to the four major airlines that fly into and out of Lexington, hundreds of general aviation flights operate daily out of KLEX, including flight training, seaplane training, equine cargo, business aviation, and more. 

    This update of KLEX includes several hand-crafted buildings and an updated taxiway layout and markings current as of summer 2020.  Almost the entire terminal interior has been modeled as well.  Hand-crafted buildings with full PBR include:

    • Entire lobby and passenger terminal
    • Detailed interior of concourses A and B
    • Main parking garage and rental car garage
    • Control tower
    • WestLex general aviation FBO
    • WestLex T-Hangars
    • Aviation Museum of Kentucky
    • Tac-Air Corporate FBO
    • Thoroughbred Aviation maintenance hangar
    • Iconic "bridge" mural on the threshold of Runway 22
    • Lexington Financial Center and Central Bank (downtown landmarks)


    It's still a work in progress, and it's definitely not perfect -- but I wanted to release what I had so hopefully everyone can enjoy it! I've put hundreds of hours into this project- it's the reason I got into scenery development, so if you like it, let me know, and don't forget to share the link with your friends! 

    1.2 Update Notes

    **With the recent update- you may notice jetways partially sunken into the ground. Unfortunately it is a limitation of the Microsoft SDK that jetway heights can't be edited, so shorter terminals like KLEX don't work correctly with the assets.  I figured that it's more important for the jetway to connect correctly to the terminal than for it to sit on the ground correctly, so that's a compromise I had to make. Hopefully in the future, I'll be able to edit the heights of the jetway doors to match the height of the terminal! **

    I'm also still working to fix the bump in Runway 27.  It's a problem with the MSFS terraforming algorithm and it doesn't show up in the scenery editor so it's very difficult to fix.  I have a few ideas but it takes a lot of experimentation and time. Hopefully I'll have an update soon.

    Would absolutely love to see an update for those bumps and the ILS approaches. This is such a good scenery and really hope you get the time to continue with this! Thank you!

    For those wondering, I second that this is working on MSFS24.

    Great rendition of KLEX. Thanks for sharing. A couple observations. 1- I noticed a significant ground elevation difference going to wards TAC-AIR in the GA area (see attached). 2- the glide slope for RWY 04 ILS approach seems way to low (appears much less than 3-degree slope).

    Maybe you can update for msfs2024 as the default 2024 klex has no parking garage and no terminal and no control tower. but I put this into my 2024 folder and it works fine.

    You are welcome! Apologies for how long it's been- life has been wild, but I'm currently looking into a couple bug reports. Some things I'll probably never fix- changing TacAir to Signature requires a whole new model so I may not ever have time to get to that. But I'm certainly going to try to fix the bump in the runways/taxiways if I can. Stay tuned!

    Great improvement to KLEX. Unfortunately, I've noticed a bump in the ramp leading from GA parking. As long as you're aware of it it and keep the power on it can be dealt with. Stop on it and you'll need some power.

    I'm alive, just busy, and looking into the bump! I would LOVE to do KLOU - it's where I learned to fly- but I don't know that I will have the time in the near future to spend on the models. It will be on the short list if I ever get the time to get back into the modeling.

    I just downloaded this file yesterday. First off, great modeling and good job with everything overall! The only issue I have is that I went to takeoff from runway 27 and about 1/4-1/2 way down there is a huge hump that popped me into the air. I saw comments on 4/22 but not on 9/27.
    Not a deal breaker though when it comes to this mod. Excellent work.

    Yep, working on this. It's due to MSFS's terraforming algorithm- it doesn't show up in the scenery editor and it always renders differently in the sim for me. But i'll get a fix as soon as I can! Thanks for the kind words!
