MONSTER NXCUB

This aircraft is first and foremost a high-fidelity realism mod of the default Asobo MSFS Cub Crafters NXCub bushplane. It flies like the real thing, hitting all the numbers. The engine's been upgraded to the best Cub Crafters has to offer: the Lycoming 393i 215HP powerplant. Propeller performance too has been accurately modelled. 
But it wouldn't be a monster cub if there wasn't something wicked. And so there is: NOS (Nitrious Oxyde Systems) has been installed for up to 3 minutes of nitro injection giving you an additional 100HP. Great for some STOL take-offs or emergency obstacle climbs!

  • This mod installs as a new aircraft in your hangar and does not require the existing NXCub to be installed.
  • This mod uses the default Asobo G3X (or the WT mod if you have it), so kindly do not report any Garmin issue to me as I can't help you there.
  • Engage NOS either with the switch or the War Emergency Power keybind.

 

Realism and Performance Mod
- High fidelity CFD flight model and Lycoming 393i engine
- Tailored wing lift profile with higher AoA
- Propwash over rudder and elevator gives proper control early on at the takeoff roll
- Demonstrated cross-wind of 11kts possible
- Clean stall settles in a 600fpm parachute mode as per the real cub
- Custom thermo dynamics for Oil and CHT, closely matching reality
- Modern Prop Physics and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), including CFD Ground Effect
- Enjoy a cruise speed of over 130 kts, maximum altitude of 14,000 feet and range of 750 nm
- Demonstrated take-off distance of 120 feet and landing distance of 80 feet as in the real NXCub 393i
- Accurate long-range narrow-beam landing lights in aviation-white
- Windshield de-icer installed, activated with the Cabin Heat lever
- Automatic Pitot heat, managed by the G3X
- Accurate and useful camera setup, with the eyes located where they really would be
- Animated windows left and right (since this is a mod on a default Asobo aircraft, there are some caveats: right door cannot be animated, glass of both windows does not animate along with the frames and no change in sound)
- Tailored exterior lights
- Various switch, lever and label fixes throughout the cockpit

NOS, the Monster in the Cub
- Up to 3 minutes of total Nitrous Oxide injection
- Hulks the Lycoming 393i 215hp instantly to 315hp
- Use short bursts then cool down...oil temperature easily goes critical within 10 seconds
- The NOS cylinder automatically refills whenever you refuel
- Engage with the NOS switch or the War Emergency Power keybind

Default Garmin G3X, but...
- Highly recommend to install the Working Title G3X mod (https://www.workingtitle.aero/packages/g3x/)
- This is a bush plane, and the Garmin knows it...be free from "500 500", "Terrain Terrain" or similar noise
- Customized engine panel with remaining fuel and range data
- Useful annunciations added (NOS Low, Parking Brake, Fuel Imbalance, etc), only works with the WT G3X mod installed
- Radar Altitude added (displays whenever you're less than 2,500 feet AGL)

Typical power settings:
- Normal Rated (100% ... use for take-off): 2,700 rpm / 30 mp
- Performance Cruise (75% rated): 2,450 rpm / 24 mp
- Economy Cruise (65% rated): 2,350 rpm / 21 mp
- Ferry Cruise (60% rated): 2,050 rpm / 15 mp

And finally

I'm not sure if you're already planning to do this but would it be at all possible to apply the same realism and other mods you used to create the "Monster" cub, to the others? My Grandparents have friends that have Super cubs and so the cubs are my go-to when I want to fly GA airplanes in MSFS. If you have already thought of this, at least you know someone actually does fly your created plane often; if not, there's an idea for you. (i DMed you this too. I'm not sure which youll see first...)

This is hands-down my favorite aircraft in MSFS. If I'm not sure where I'm going or what I might be expected to do when I get there, this is the plane to go. Climbs like a rocket and damn near lands like a helicopter. Is is possible in a future release to feature the optional Hartzell Trailblazer 3-Bladed Constant Speed prop and Ahtanum Interior Package (both current options for the NX Cub)?

Uh oh yet again there goes my day. Always a great surprise to see this updated and this one looks particularly juicy! Do you have any sort of roadmap for it or do you just wing it and then release whenever the stars align? Just going by the changelog I'd say, personally, the only stuff even left on my fantasy wishlist would be some of the cool ownership/persistence stuff coming out in the better GA mods (NOS system maintenance lol!), and a different nav option only because as much as I like the g3x it hasn't been updated in forever and the way it draws flight paths is utterly useless at times. Regardless, still easily my favorite plane, especially now that you put some WD-40 on the pedals! Do you feel like there's anything specific still lacking?

edit: Just took a quick flight in a rainstorm; this is so far and away the single most fun raw flying experience in the sim. Other mods may beat the FM in niches like gliding, helicoptering, being able to do a sick cobra maneuver etc., but it's like fs2020 was built specifically for this plane that you keep improving. First thoughts on the update: rotation, generally takeoff and landing, response to gusts, all feels a little different, all in a good way. Pretty cool to see the high voltage warning when I gun it too hard. I missed that you fixed the inverted heating controls! That was such a pet peeve... it's like, not only does it say it ON the knob itself, it says it TWICE, and they still somehow cock it up and it's just sitting there being wrong update after update! Also, geez, you weren't kidding about the huge livery pack, some great stuff in there.

Just downloaded the new updated version, thank you.

I can't seem to get the glareshield lights knob to change anything, the panel remains dark, it works on all your other Cub models. I do all my flying in cloudy sunrise or sunset conditions, would be great to be able to get some lighting on the panel.

Thanks Rudy :-) Sounds like one of those MSFS bugs, glareshield lighting works just fine. Try restarting MSFS or cycling the battery and alternator.

Is there any possibility for you to simulate the Right Ign Battery instead of the NOS System to make the Plane more like the real one? Would be nice to have it. The Garmin G5 as a Backup would be nice to have in the Mod. Thanks a lot and have a nice week and a happy new year.

Noticed a strange issue with this.

I was testing some super short take offs, and if you have full flaps on take off you have no elevator authority and can't lift off. If you move the flaps one notch up you get instant elevator authority back. Elevator animations still work at FF take off, just not actually doing anything.

The FMS is not working on GPS Navigation. I am adding some photos to the gallery for you to view. With FMS and AP, the aircraft doesn't follow GPS Navigation.

This is a realism mod and has such has no L+R option as a fuel selector. If CubCrafters adds this option to the real aircraft, I'll be sure to do the same :-)

And another update, some pretty nice improvements for take-offs and ground handling mostly:

- Much improved ground roll performance to achieve CubCrafters published numbers of demonstrated 120ft / 37m take-offs

- Further improved general ground handling

- Improved CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) ground effect (feel that air cushion)

- Slightly increased rudder authority
