    PMDG DC-6B & DC-6A - VASP - Image 1

    Description

Following the history of the PP-LFA, after a brief service at Loide Aéreo Nacional (livery available for download here) and a success story at Panair do Brasil (livery also available for download here), the 4 DC-6Bs were briefly returned to Loíde Aéreo in 1961, the same year that VASP bought Loide and began operating it´s fleet, this time naming them on their own as DC6 "C", and christening the LFA as "Amazonas". During the 60s they were mainly kept with the paint we see in this version, operating purely with passenger transport.

From 1969, with the arrival of the 737s, the DC-6s were converted into freighters (Standard "A") and kombi (Passengers + Cargo, official variant of the Douglas "C"), but the company continued with the marketing denomination of "DC-6C" also for the pure freighters (like LFA).

In this role, the DC-6 continued to provide important services on suppporting development projects in flights to northern Brazil, and until at least 1975, with the 737 operating with great success on VASP, the LFA was already stocked in Congonhas while being traded in the used aircraft market.

Thanks to the Cultura Aeronautica blog that I used as one of the sources for references.

History of the PP-LFA (Cn 45527/1017):
Delivered by the new factory in 1958, briefly operated by Loide Aéreo Nacional and then leased with great success by Panair do Brasil from 1958 to 1961. From the same year the LFA operated both as passenger and freighter transport at VASP until the first half of the 70s and ended his career flying in Bolivia in the mythical Butcher Flights for La Cumbre with the registration CP-1283 probably between 1982 and 1987, and since then he has been at El Alto airport, slowly deteriorating outside.

    ----------------------- PT:

    História do PP-LFA (Cn 45527/1017):

    PMDG DC-6B - Cruzeiro

Even though Cruzeiro never flew DC-6, this iconic airline had some beatiful liveries that fit the 6s well. In this pack i´ve included the scheme used in the DC3s by Cruzeiro as the main file, second the NAMC YS-11 (nicknamed in Brazil "Samurai"), the third being the beautifull scheme used for the Caravelles and the fourth the scheme that was used across the boeings the airline had (727s and 737).

    PMDG DC-6B - Real Aerovias

Real Aerovias operated the Douglas DC-6 PP-YSI, PP-YSJ, PP-YSL, originally from SAS and also PP-YSM and PP-YSN, originally from Northwest. They flew with Real for a short period, as they began service in 1961, the same year that Real Aerovias was absorbed by Varig following years of a serious financial crisis in Real. As was customary at the time, Real called their DC-6B "Super DC-6B", a designation that never really existed.

    PMDG DC-6B - Cruzeiro do Sul - PP-CCI

Inspired in the DC-4 operated by Cruzeiro do Sul in the begining of the de-germanization of the companz leaving the Syndicato Condor years behind, when most of the Fokkers and Junkers were being replaced by american machines. Before setting with the white/blue livery that was one of the symbols of this airline, thez had a rather simple bare metal in the Douglas DC-4 that flew in prospection routes between US and Brazil, before the Douglas were replaced by Convairs CV-340. Here depicted as the PP-CCI "Sirius".
