Peeyem

Peeyem is a simple to use package manager for Microsoft Flight Simulator. It allows you to view all the official and community packages available on your system. Community packages can be enabled or disabled between game sessions to minimize the game’s memory foot print.

It works by creating soft links or junctions to the enabled packages. No directories or files are moved when enabling or disabling packages.

Requirements

.NET Core 3.1 is required to run the application. You can download it here.

Change Log

v0.6.0, “Flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.”, 2020-12-06

  • Added: “Enable Selected” and “Disable Selected” menu items to the package context menu.
  • Added: The set of enabled packages can be saved to and loaded from a file.
  • Added: The waypoints of the flight plan of a mission package are displayed on a map.
  • Improved: Points of Interests are displayed in the Objects list of the package details panel.
  • Improved: Peeyem tries extra hard to determine the real package type of packages of types Core and Unknown.
  • Improved: Installing packages with the option “Required files only” takes into account packages with an invalid layout.json file.
  • Bug Fix: Failed to correctly read a small category of directory names containing non-ANSI characters.
  • Bug Fix: The “Select All from” context menu item did not allow you to select all packages in Official, Community or Warehouse package directory.
  • Known Problem: On one configuration Peeyem is be unable to recognize the junctions it creates resulting in an inconsistent view of the Community directory. Thanks to [email protected] for helping me to find the cause of this issue but so far no success.

v0.5.0, “I feel the need… the need for speed.”, 2020-11-02

  • Added: The package detail panel has been moved to the right side of the window to be able to show more information about a package.
    • The airports of a scenery package are shown on a map.
    • The scenery objects of a scenery package are shown on a map.
    • The aircraft configurations are shown with more detail.
    • The package detail panel can be enabled or disabled in the View / Details menu.
  • Added: An option to delete the content cache file when you enable or disable a package. You can enable the option in the Environment category of the Options dialog.
  • Improved: Various little performance improvements to better cope with large package libraries.
    • Improved: Reading aircraft configurations.
    • Improved: The airports and SimObjects of a scenery package are read on demand and in the background. This should reduce the performance hit when working with large package collections.
  • Bug Fix: Changed the value used to show the name of the liveries.

v0.1.0, “Scratchin' the itch”, 2020-10-01

A QUESTION PLEASE: Is it possible to disable sceneries in the COMMUNITY while the simulator is running?
    • sardaukar888

Yes, you can but if you try to load a disabled one the game will probably generate an error or silently continue. I haven't tried it yet though.

Was looking for an app that would do this. Thank you. Could you add search functionality? For example would be useful to search for an airport by it's code or city name.

Downloaded it. Installed it. Downloaded .net core. I run the program. I set the folders. It recognizes my 697 packages. 1 is selected. The checkboxes don't do anything. You click on the checkbox, it doesn't do anything. You right click an addon and then "Disable selected", it doesn't do anything. You also can't find anything inside the manual because there is no Troubleshooting section. I understand the value of this program. It is something really helpful. It is useless for me though. It just doesn't work. Thank you for the effort.

Very good application ! Have you planned a function for display all sceneries into the map ? Thanks !

Planned, yes, but map control needs to be updated first.

    User interface is quite nice.
    Software provide good response time.
Unfortunately, I cannot use it for the moment.
I have to much addons for sceneries and planes.
If you could sort sceneries per country/region, it would be great. I am using directories and subdirectories in the warehouse directory.
The same should apply for planes sorting all addons for a given plane.
For the moment, I use MSFS Addons linker.

If you could sort all addons depending of directories then you will become "Le phenix des hôtes de ces bois" like in "Le corbeau et le renard" from Jean de Lafontaine

Is clicking on the column headers not intuitive enough to sort the packages?
    • Mushupapa
      4 month(s) ago
      Thanks for your answer.
I found "Location" in the column header.
This allow to sort them per directory/subdirectory.
When you have a long list, this is not convinient.

Could you maybe add "ICAO" to the headers (sortable)? Would help me find out faster if I already have something for a certain airport installed 😊
    • sardaukar888
      4 month(s) ago
I can but getting the ICAO codes is a time-consuming operation because I have to scan every *.bgl file in the packages. I tried to keep the time it takes to get the package list as short as possible. Also, some packages contain more than 1 airport. There is not always a 1-to-1 mapping between a row in the list and an airport.

Thank you for this great addon.
Just a suggestion, I dont know if it is difficult to concretise or not... It should be great to have a complete map with all the pins representing the mods we have downloaded.....and even better to have a possibility to select a region circle with a radiun for example which will automatically select all the mods acting on that zone with manually the posibility to desactivate some....Must be great and unique. Thanks again for your work so far

Thanks for the feedback. It's on my to do list. However, the map control needs more work to support multiple pins. Might take some time.

This site already has that map!! Left side "Scenery Map" Regards

You found the current solution! Yes, I could add it to the context menu too. I've had little feedback, neither good nor bad, about the user interface so I've been cautious not to not overdo it.

Thanks - I think I have found a few bugs for you to triage to help it improve - 1) It doesn't seem to always remove junctions when disabling. Possibly it might be when you exit the mod manager with the "X" rather than through Alt+F4 or the menu. Not sure if its that but I have seen it a few times. 2) I noticed that when restarting the app, the checkboxes for already enabled packages are not checked anymore. 3) When you use the built in Installer rather than extracting manually, although you can immediately see the entry in the list of packages, selecting it will say Objects(0) and therefore show no location on the map until the app is restarted when it then works.

      1) Enabling and disabling is 'atomic', meaning 'it works' or 'it doesn't'. It's actually a very small operation. If disabling fails, it would help to check the log for exceptions and send me the relevant error. The exception usually tells me what's wrong.

      2) The main reason why links in the Community folder disappears is someone (you?) or something renamed the target directory in the Warehouse. There is no 'tracking' of junctions available in the file system. Again, if that's not the case please check the log for errors.

      3) Thx. I didn't test that scenario. I'll look into it.

Thanks for your reply. With 1) above, the log doesn't give any exceptions it simply shows one line "2020-11-19 16:25:19.914 0001 [I] Disabling packages..." - Unfortunately if I could record a video and screenshots to help you I would but I can't post them on this forum I don't think. Hell I can't even start a new line in my replies haha!

With 2) above, I was actually referring to the app itself, once junctions are created, the next time you start the app, even though those junctions are still in the community folder, you can't see the check marks checked in the app anymore like they were when you enabled them, so the possibility of having easy access to see what is or is not enabled from within the app is not there at the moment. That's what I was meaning.

Great tool - I would really appreciate it if you could add a context or menu button to "Toggle Enable/Disable all selected" ? That way when I "Select All from -> Spain" for example, I can just use this feature to enable them all for that folder rather than individually clicking 50 or more highlighted lines.

EDIT: I found it hiding in the Edit menu. Constructive Feedback: Maybe there could be a toggle button for this or add it to the context menu so it is more intuitive.
