    Douglas C-53 - USAAF "D-Day Doll" - Image 2

    Description

80 years ago today, men crossed the english channel to start the west advance that would end nazi-fascist tyranny.

C-53 268830 was one of the 53 planes that towed Waco gliders on the early hours of the day from Aldermaston Airfiel towards Normandie, providing the last preparations for the early mornin landings. Despite the bad weather and the poor navigation possibilities of the time, the airmen lauched the gliders, paratroopers and cargo across the enemy lines.

The 268830 accomplished 3 other flights during the invasion, and later gained the pin up and nickname "D-Day Doll" and took part of the Market Garden Operation, the supply missions to the encircled troups in Bastogne and the cross of the Rhine, as well as evacuating the wounded men to England.

Today the Commemorative Air Force flies her in restored conditions.

This version included textures with cockpit, cabin, custom cargo, ground equipment and textures for formation flying.

So question, I cannot get any of your liveries to work at all. I ran the layout generator in the file but no luck. What am I doing wrong?

Hi mate, are you dowloading the right version? Main is for MSFS2024 and the MSFS2020 is the secondary file.

Even if you dont own the C-47 module, you should be able to see the liveries on the DC-3 too.

    Hope it works out!

Incredible work - love all the details! The only issue I found, and it's the same on your wonderful C-47 "What's Up Doc?", is the top of the cowling on the number 2 engine has a substantial white "seam" showing. It looks to me like it's pulling from the edge of the textures and might just need a little extra "paint" in that area. If you could fix that, it would be an easy 6 stars out of 5 from me :-)

Hi mate, finally got some time to fix the issue in all liveries, thanks for the heads up!

Any way you can make this paint for the newly released C-47D (Famous Flyer 9) from Asobo/Airplane Heaven?

Hi mate, I am looking into doing that, however it seem that the C-47 files are encrypted, but I will do it as soon as possible.

The liveries in this package represent aircraft of Marine Air Group 25, which flew the RD4-1 (the Marine version of the C-47 and nicknamed the "Flying Boxcar") throughout the Pacific Theater during WWII. MAG-25, as part of the joint Army/Navy/Marine Southern Pacific Combat Air Transport Command (SCAT), was founded in June 1942 and provided rapid transport of personnel and cargo, assault support, and aeromedical evacuation to and from forward areas in support of campaigns ranging from Guadalcanal through the Philippines. These liveries were inspired by aircraft pictures and drawings as provided by the MAG-25 site (https://www.marineairgroup25.com/) and reflect actual wartime aircraft. Many of these were procured from US Army C-47 pools or otherwise pressed into hasty service during the darkest days of WWII and were repurposed for service with the Marines. With scarcely enough time to paint over previous identification marks (which were prohibited by early Naval Air regulations, to include nose art) these aircraft were a mismatched lot and are shown as they would have been seen during their most desperate, and most distinguished service. For the service during the battle of Guadalcanal, MAG-25 was awarded with the Distinguished Unit Citation decoration, and was decativated in 1947 before returning for service during the Korean War.
