Color Panel for VR Passthrough - Image 1

    Description

A simple color panel tool for VR simmers.

In conjunction with the VR passthrough functionality (implemented in Virtual Desktop), you can put a passthrough window anywhere in your virtual cockpit.

Have you invested your money in expensive flight controllers to build your own simpit but you are also a VR simmer? Now you can see your controllers anytime during VR flight thanks to the chromakey VR passthrough.

    Installation

Copy `spitice-color-panel` folder to the community package folder.

To uninstall, simply remove `spitice-color-panel` from the community package folder.

    Usage

Press the button located in the in-game toolbar.

If you want to use the panel as a passthrough window, you also need to configure the color values to match the panel color and chromakey in Virtual Desktop.

    Recommended Virtual Desktop settings

Open Virtual Desktop setting on your HMD, then tap on "Streaming" tab.
You can enable and customize VR passthrough settings here.

    • Smoothness: 10
    • Similarity: 0-2
    • RGB: 128, 0, 128 (Purple)

    (Tested on Quest2)

If you feel difficulty in tweaking RGB values on Virtual Desktop setting, set them approximately then copy the exact RGB values to Color Panel since it's much easier to precisely set sliders on Color Panel.

    Minimize and Quick Hide/Reveal

The minimize button is located at the bottom right corner.

    • Click: Minimizes the panel.
    • Hold: Temporarily hides the color panel so you can see the behind of the panel.

While the panel is minimized, you can still control the panel via the small circle.

    • Click: Restores the panel.
    • Hold and move: Temporarily restores the size of the panel so you can use it like a flashlight to see around you via passthrough.

    Customization

    Position and Size

Drag the color panel (or passthrough panel) to move your panel.

You can also resize the panel by dragging the border of the panel.

NOTE: In VR mode, you cannot save the position and the size of the panel due to the limitation of the sim.

    Color

Change the color to match with desired RGB values.

You can also set the color to the following presets:

    • Purple (Recommended)
    • Virtual Desktop Green
    • Virtual Desktop Blue
    Shape

You can change the shape of the panel to an ellipse if you want.

    Fill

You can set a hole in the panel.

This feature might be useful when you want to use MFD controllers (e.g., Thrustmaster Couger MFD, Winwing MIP).
In that case, try to set around 25-30% and see if it fits in your simpit layout.

    Coming soon™

    Q&A

The borderline around the panel is always shown

In order to indicate that the panel is always resizable even if it is minimized, the borderline is set visible regardless of the panel state.

    Hello

How Can I add several panels?

Does this work with the crystal in openxr (not steam)?

Awesome ! would it be possible to add more panels or duplicate the addon folder and get a few lines to tell what has to be modified ? Thanks again :)

I love this. Can we have a key press or joystick button to toggle the panel and border on and off. I only want to see passthrough when I need to flick a switch on one of my controller panels.
    I have provided a link that explains reading key presses from a toolbar panel;
    https://devsupport.flightsimulator.com/t/intercept-key-press-in-a-toolbar-addon/3261

It would also be great to be able to run multiple passthrough windows.

Thanks for your time. This is simple, useful and works.

can you use this with virtual desktop ?

Super-intrigued by this. Does it work on an HP Reverb 2?

    Amazing! Update when?

Hi, nice tool. Is it still in development? Last update is long time ago.

This Mod really helps me out in IFR flight so I can copy down ATC instructions without taking my VR headset off. I am having a problem with the Mod. It constantly loses the see through ability and reverts back to Purple. I have to close out of Virtual reality, re-open it, go to set-up pass through on the streaming tab and then go back to the Sim. Is there anything I can do about this??

Thank you for making this! I would really like to have the features of RealityMixer such as multiple boxes, proximity activation, etc.; however, I cannot stand how StreamVR, which RealityMixer requires, works compared to what I get from VXDR. I am so happy with the VR performance I'm getting with your app. I'll just try to be content and wait with bated breath for every new release you create!

I love this mod for allowing me to be able to see and use a RL kneeboard, when in VR, which I find so much easier than taking notes on a VR tablet app.

For another possible use, I might have missed the option and/or i might be trying to use this for a purpose that it wasn't intended for, but is it possible to say look straight ahead, for example, at an app window on your monitor, but then position that view say over your VR legs, whilst still retaining a view of the app? Whenever I reposition the "reality window", it always seems to change what I'm looking at in the real world. This would make sense for mixed reality type uses, but like I said, I'm perhaps trying to do something that it wasn't designed for?

Very nice application, thank you for your time to us in the vr flightsim community.

I downloaded and setup as per the instructions but no button in the msfs vr toolbar to open it.

    I got the same issue.

Got it to work, either it was an watsim adon that conflicted, or something was missing in my download. I deleted the map and downloaded it again, then it worked.

Some Japanese guy made a steamVR app called ChromaTrackOverlay that tracks your hand or controller and then creates a passthrough. With steamVR it makes the flight sim very laggy. Since you are able to make apps for VD, can you make one that tracks the hand and open up a passthrough circle around the hand? then in VR we can see what we are pressing around the hand in a physical cockpit. The rest of the time we see the virtual surrounding. I prefer it this way than a fixed shape at a fixed location. I am willing to pay for an app to make this work, especially if it can be used in DCS too.

Thank you for this. Having multiple panels and saving the position & size would elevate this application to another level. I hope you are continuing to develop this, the future is mixed reality and for flight simulation, a massive boost. Not sure if you're aware but this was reacently featured on YouTube here https://youtu.be/o2vHWNf7pW4?si=9Y9_YOxZTmf4uVCe

    Fantastic,...thank you,

Seems that I read somewhere this could be used with X-Plane 12 by installing it in the Custom Scenery folder. Is this correct?
