    Description

KFFO - Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Version 2.0

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is located northeast of Dayton, Ohio, and encompasses parts of Greene and Montgomery counties. The base has a rich aviation heritage. The pioneering work of Orville and Wilbur Wright from 1899 to 1903 enabled them to achieve the first manned, powered flight. After their success at Kitty Hawk, they returned home to Dayton, Ohio, where in 1904 and 1905 they perfected their flying skills while turning the Wright Flyer into the first practical airplane capable of fully-controlled flight. They accomplished this work at the Huffman Prairie Flying Field, now a part of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. From 1910 to 1916 the brothers operated a flying school at Huffman Prairie. Among their 119 students were Henry "Hap" Arnold who commanded the Army Air Forces in World War II, and H. Roy Brown, the Canadian ace who was credited with shooting down the Red Baron in World War I.

The base is headquarters for a vast, worldwide logistics system, a world-class laboratory research function, and is the foremost acquisition and development center in the U.S. Air Force. Dozens of associate organizations representing a broad spectrum of Air Force and Department of Defense activities call Wright-Patterson home. The base is comparable to a medium sized city with services ranging from shopping facilities and child care centers to housing areas and a large medical center.

The base is the home of the 88th Air Base Wing, Air Force Materiel Command, Air Force Research Laboratory, National Air and Space Intelligence Center. 445th Airlift Wing, Air Force Institute of Technology, and the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

This is a collaborative effort from many creators, most have their own flightsim.to profiles. I encourage that you donate to them and NOT me specifically (I am facilitating this project for them!)
Contributors: (flightsim.to profile name in parentheses)
Martin Connor (connomar): many hangars of the 445th Airlift Wing and new firestation next to PAXTerm.
Michael Demers (PVA3455): Fuel Tank farms
Edward Parker (Nervegas): Portion of the National Museum of the United States Air Force structures
(Photosbykev): Many static aircraft for the USAF Museum
Nick Brawn (nickb007): Many static aircraft for around the Base
Christopher Deyoe (Areographer): Airport infrastructure (runways, taxiways, signs, parking, ground textures, etc.),  2x C-5 hangars, PAXTerm, Ammo Depot, project facilitor, and the National Museum of the United States Air Force.

    Installation:
Extract KFFOV1.zip and place the "mpw-airport-kffo-dayton" folder AND connomar's "mnsd-modellib-airport-models" folder into your Community folder. If the mnsd-modellib-airport-models folder is missing, please download it from connomar's flightsim.to page.

    Version 1.0:
    1. all runways, taxiways are correct.
    2. all taxiway signs
    3. PAXterm, firestation, C-5 hangars, fuel tank farms, Ammo Depot.

    Version 2.0:

    1. Added the National Museum of the United States Air Force buildings (no aircraft displays yet!)

    2. Added a landable runway next to the Museum along with aircraft parking spots (Gate M 1-3)

    3. Also, unconventionally, added a long taxiway from the main AFB to the Museum (had to do it that way so taxiways/parking at the museum were tied to the main taxiway graph).

Again, I encourage you to donate to these creators from their flightsim.to pages. Even if I have a donate button here, please use the other creator's page to donate....not to me.....

This is for them! Thank you!
    Peace and Joy,
    Christopher

The static C17s and C5s really make this feel like an actual Air Force base. I do think that the F35 doesn't look quite right, (maybe the paint job, not for sure) but overall a fantastic addition to the sim. Tried in MSFS 2024 and worked with no problems.

Great scenery on the Air Force Base side. I ran into frame rate issues while flying over and taxiing at the museum, but once I was back over the base the frame rate issues went away. Thanks for creating this as Wright-Patt has always been a favorite.

Thank you! Sometimes it hits FPS and sometimes it doesn't. I notice that on a lot of airport....strange.

Nice job, the custom C-17s really add to the scenery.

Thank you, I have been waiting for someone to fix the museum and the runway to make it usable

I can't find mnsd-modellib-airport-models on connomar flightsim.to profile. I did find it on MNSceneryDesign flightsim.to profile. So is it the one on MNSceneryDesign profile or did connomar take it down off their profile? Thanks!

It looks great. Did you flatten the air force museum?

On the east side of KFFO there is the Wright brothers shed, where they flew and stored the Wright Flyer:

I have put an exclusion poly at the museum site for now. One of our creators is still working on the buildings. I will add the museum when he finishes. I just completed the Huffman Prairie Flying Field shack today along with the "launch" rail. It will be added on our next update in a few days.

Also, we are in progress of creating static aircraft displays for the museum.

    I can't wait

Can you also remove most of the trees at the Huffman Prairie Interpretive Center on the Wright-Patterson AFB. There is a Wright brothers memorial.
