    Description

    KWVI - Watsonville Municipal Airport
CA66 - Monterey Bay Academy Airport
    Version 1.0.1

    Installation:
Copy the folder "prairielet-airport-kwvi-watsonville" into your "Microsoft Flight Simulator/Community" folder (Delete a possibly already existing folder first)
For adding the optional airstrip CA66 copy the folder "prairielet-airport-ca66" to the same place
    (Both airfields are independent mods)

    Airport info:
    Location: 36° 56′ 9″ N, 121° 47′ 23″ W
The KWVI airfield is located in the Monterey Bay area at the southern end of Santa Cruz County, California. Watsonville is about 65 miles (105 km) south of San Francisco. The origins of this airfield were in the '40s when the US Navy opened the Naval Air Auxiliary Station Watsonville (NAAS Watsonville). The untowered airfield is now operated by the city of Watsonville since 1947

    LOC for runway 2: I-AYN 108.30 MHz
    PAPI for runway 2 (3°), 20 (3°), and 9 (4°)

The airstrip CA66 is a small grass strip located next to the beach

    Release info:
The goal is not to create the airfield as realistic as possible, but more to just improve its visual style and is mainly made based on Google Maps data

Thanks to ravenn22 for providing me with infos and pictures of the airfield! Go check out his projects
He also handed over his project of the airstrip CA66 for me to continue. It is provided as optional bonus content to my KWVI project. I may add additional custom details in the future as well

    Features KWVI:
    - Hand-crafted buildings
    - PBR textures for these buildings
    - Taxiways and aprons are redone
    - Custom ground markings

    Features CA66:
    - Added parking spots
    - Added some default scenery objects to improve the visual look
    - A lot of terrain, water mask and photogrammetry cleanups in the whole area of the Monterey Bay

    Update version 0.7:
    - Added the hangars in the south
    - Added some custom fences

    Update version 1.0:
    - Added new hangars (including an open hangar with parking spot)
    - Added a custom beacon tower
    - Some cleanups around the airfield
    - Added CA66 as optional airstrip to the package

    Update version 1.0.1:
    - Recompiled after Sim Update 11 (40th Anniversary Edition) to ensure compatibility
    - Replaced the helicopter parking spots with actual heliport starting points

Known issues, currently not included yet or not planned:
    - Not all buildings are done. If a building is currently not present, there is an autogen building instead
    - Only a few parking spots are selectable. Static aircrafts are placed on others. Otherways there is way too much ground traffic generated by the game. If you miss a particular parking spot, let me know so I can include it
    - Further polishing of the airfields with more details may come with future updates

I love this airfield (see me earlier comment) it is my "home" field.
Sadly some later MS update to MS2020 has obliterated the delightful terminal building and Ella's restuarant. Any way to fix this?

Thank you for this wonderful update. This is my home airport and also home to the Experimental Aircraft Association, Chapter 119. We built a flight sim for use when we do training and free demo flights to the public. It's a real treat for our passengers to first fly virtually out of Watsonville and recognize all the buildings. There have been a few changes to the airport over the last few years. If you are ever interested in updating, I would be happy to work with you on it and supply whatever images and texture maps you need.

Beautiful job. I've had this airport in my community folder for about a year now. I found something interesting on the navigation to. On the GPS when flying to and pressing PROC and picking a transition approach from approach plates the transitions and navaids don't load up in the flight plan. Is there a fix for this?

Thank you, this was my home airport and this is where my discovery flight happened.

My observation with and without this mod:

    With this mod:
    - there were over 80 aircraft sim objects rendered while I had all AI traffic and ground aircraft disabled
    - procedures like the LOC 02 were broken, waypoint NALLS missing, nav from SANTY straight to the runway threshold

    :(

Thank you so much for creating my home airport! Got so much love for this airport. Learned to fly at this airport.

Terrific! Thank you, I can recommend Ella's at the Airport, great food and a good view. Before the pandemic my son used to play Jazz there on a Sunday evening.

One very slight criticism: unless its changed recently the windsock at KWVI is a sort of airplane thing on a stick...

Never thought I'd be impressed by a GA field especially in a location I have no connection to, but this is excellent and moves the needle forward.

This is such a great mod, really amazing work you've done here. Now my home airport looks a bit more realistic! Thanks for making this!

Dude you rock! Great addition to one of my favorite addons already. Any chance of adding Las Trancas in the future?

actually, I've got that one in progress as well... just hadn't decided how to handle Big Creek Lumber yet...

    This is exciting news!

You're doing a great job on this airport. My only comment is could you add the beacon back in? It's located next to the parking lot of United Flight Services on Aviation Way. You can see the shadow in Google Maps and see it in Google Earth. Near the parking lot of the custom airport building and United Flight services.

I put the default beacon back in! You can download it now again or wait for my custom made one, that will come in a future update

Thank you! I was wondering if you were making a custom one as you said you were still working on the airport. Great work! Thank you for the reply!

did most of my flight training here! Thank you for this!

Important: This airport is not finished. See release info. The Malpensa airport is the largest airport of northern Italy. It's located 46 km northeast of the city of Milan. The location of today's airport played a rather important role in the history of the Italian aviation, as on May 27 in 1910 Gianni Caproni's first airplane, the Ca.1, started here. At this historic place Giovanni Agusta built prototype airplanes as well. Later Malpensa became a military airfield. Commercial flying started in 1948. The first intercontinental connection (to New York City) was established only two years later.
